Thanks for the testing & info! I occasionally pocket carry a Ruger LCP2 chambered in .22LR when I’m out exercising or doing yard work during the summer months. I keep it loaded with CCI Stingers & will definitely continue to do so!
Another great test! I’m honestly amazed at the velocity the short barrel is able to achieve as well as the penetration. I decided on the Punch round for my Stinger after watching your last video and finding it was the most accurate round I tested at 5 yards. Have you put these on paper to see what your gun shoots the best?
Good point on the tumbling. We're starting with a 22 cal bullet and at a velocity where expansion would only limit the small amount of penetration available. This being said tumbling is about the only way to achieve a bigger wound channel.
Where the bullet isn't tumbling, there's a slightly larger wound channel with a flat nose compared to a rounded or spitzer tip. Not quite the wadcutter effect, but better than a round nose because it's pushing with pressure over more surface area. So that's something for Federal Punch, I think it's a better shape for the wound channel when the bullet isn't tumbling. But tumbling will make more of a difference and I don't expect much of a difference between such a small flat nose and an unexpended hollow point. It would be interesting to see self-defense rounds using a flat full-wadcutter face for .22LR revolvers and derringers. But since there are so many .22 autoloading pistols, companies might be reluctant to bring such a round to market as it wouldn't feed in many .22 pistols.
