How to set the focus and tracking adjustments without test equipment to improve a CD players ability to read discs without skipping or a no disc error. I found using a scratched disc and adjusting for best performance is the easiest way to get the best performance out of them. It can be done with an oscilloscope viewing the RF eye pattern, but this method works well.

Do these adjustments apply to DVD players to or are the more modren players different?

I dont think there is much if anything in the way of adjustments in DVDs. They are throw away so I have never spent much time on them.

I have one here that plays well till 50 something seconds (any tracks,doesnt matter) then it skips...annoying

this is not a real repair guy who knew what is going on, but lucky to make player go. Without service manual not to mention without a scope? But gee he was an old school hitting the side of the player. I am sorry if I gave a poor comment, but we as techs are sending wrong signal to people who does not understand what to be a real technician. If the laser is bad there is no way you could make the player read, just change the laser and save time.

This video is to help the amateur repair their own equipment. There are no 'real technicians' any more because no one is going to pay what it costs for a new laser to be fitted if you can even get one. Maybe you dont want people to repair their own equipment and pay you instead to tell them it needed a new laser when it didnt.
