As dry flies go the CDC Shuttlecock is not my go to fly pattern. Not because they are not effective as they clearly are on their day. It is because the TLC that they require to keep them on the surface. Even before you manage a fish on them, not really suitable for a big wave on a large Stillwater or a fast flowing river. In calmer weather or canal like stretches of a river they really come into their own.
I always carry several of these style flies in both my river boxes and Stillwater. This is a fairly easy tie give it a go and let me know how you get on.
