I am just amazed at how terrific a singer this young lady is. She has the whole history of jazz wrapped up in her voice. I hear Sassy in her so very much!
Your comment is bang on. I was thinking the same thing when I scrolled down and saw you already wrote it. Lots of Sarah as you said, but Billie and Ella too. She has a great ear; her intonation is perfect - when she slides around a note she always lands right on it. I'm going to see her in Ann Arbor in February. Can't wait.
Saw her and Arron Diehl at the 2014 Detroit Jazz Festival. I must say I'm a die hearted Betty Cater devotee This young lady has it all range, control, and power in that voice.
One of, if not my all-time favorite CMS. Ms Salvant shows just how f'n brilliant she really is & the ensemble is sublime. Aaron Diehl must be right up there with the best, he is amazing.
This is the most heavenly beautiful music!!!! I am so inlove with Cecile @ her trio! I wud gladly listen to just this track all day long.!! This is singing, playing @ communicating a level that is astonishing : I'm in heaven xxxx
A secret, a secret, I’ve got a little secret, A secret, a secret, A secret kind of secret I’m achin’ for to shout it To every daffodil, And tell the world about it, In fact, I think I will If this isn’t love, The whole world is crazy, If this isn’t love, I am daft as a daisy With moons all around, And cows jumping over I’m bursting with bliss And i’ll eat my hat if it isn’t love I’m feeling like an apple on top of William Tell From this I cannot grapple Because, because, You’re so adorable If this isn’t love, Then winter is summer, If this isn’t love, My heart needs a plumber, I am riding on stars I'm jumping on rainbows, There’s something i’m missing, I’ll kiss your hand if it isn’t love.
Thank you WNYC for this. I don't know much about sound engineering except to say there's a lot of poorly recorded stuff out there. This amazing voice and talented band deserve the crystal clear, perfectly balanced recording given to all of us here by the wizards at WNYC.
Amazing! Can't stop listening over and over, and finding something new to enjoy every time. What a whimsical and perfect delivery from all four of them! *bouncing and drooling* :D
My brother in D.C. called me last week to turn me on to this amazing artist!!!! I absolutely can't wait to plan a weekend getaway with my hubby to go see her perform live----pure silk and honey in her voice:-)
Fantastic! But who is playing piano and bass and drums? Why don't you write the names of all musicians? This is jazz right?! If you change only one of them the music will be completely different! Why you can't understand this simple concept? Did you listen to the Coltrane recording with Roy Haynes in place of Elvin Jones? Coltrane music sounded completely different because of Roy haynes on drums, is it so difficult to understand that?
She is perhaps my favorite singer today (along with Roberta Gambarini). You would never have heard of Cecile if she hadn't heard Ella, Nina, Billie and obviously Sarah. Please have a little more respect for them...she obviously does. Things come FROM somewhere. Hopefully she too will inspire someone someday and they won't dismiss her.
