+Agent Pebble Actually, I think you bring up an interesting point, despite some of the comments here. Think about it. Think about the technologies and daily luxuries that we're used to. In my opinion, we're soft compared to the population of the late 19th century. Those people were rough, rugged, independent, and didn't rely on the technology that we have today. The only reason we think that they couldn't handle Top Thrill or Millennium or Maverick, etc, is because the technology didn't exist back then for such a ride. We don't comprehend an 1890 person riding a 170ft inverted coaster that inverts you 6 times. But I bet, if you plucked one of these people from the late 1800's and dropped them in Cedar Point, as it is now, and let them get over the initial fear and confusion of our modern culture, they would hold up just as good if not better than the rest of us on our generation of coasters.
Strazman Absolutely, each generation is tough in their own ways, however back then they were all tough lmao. I was originally joking when I put this but I still think about it today
Anybody remember Berardi’s French fries? They were served at Cedar Point from 1942 to 1978 when Cedar Point eliminated private concessions at the park. Berardi’s restaurant still serves the fries at its location in Huron Ohio.
It's that nostalgic feeling and the atmosphere not the rides that keeps us parents coming back to March for miles in the heat all day. Now days I'm in my forties soo we just stay longer and take our time and enjoy being together as a family. I remember going there with my friends during junior high.they all brought girl friends but I didn't have one,I would go on rides wishing I had someone special. 26 years later I made the trip from Jersey with my wife and daughter and they were shocked how awesome it was. That week was one of the highlights of my life
Yes! I SERIOUSLY hope they can get Town Hall done for next year. Going in there, and visiting with Ken was one of the highlights of our days. Now they got that poor man in a booth in 90° heat.
Just rewatched this documentary, and so much has changed since it was being sold in the park. I miss some of the attractions and the arcades that were in the park and the hotel. I remember conquering my fear of those same rides as a kid, and now embrace them with adrenaline at times after I've indulged in the park's atmosphere with a few drinks. So much has changed. It all comes with time. I still hold on to the photos and items from my younger days with fondness while making new memories along the way.
Great documentary. A very good history. Missed: Why it was/is called “Cedar Point”. Answer: The point was filled with cedar trees in its earliest days.
HAPPY 150th, CEDAR POINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MAY YOU BE AROUND FOR YEARS TO COME!!!!!!!!!!!! TRUE THAT I ONLY VISITED YOU ONCE, BUT YOU GAVE US A PHENOMENAL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MAY YOU HAVE A SUCCESSFUL 200th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IN THE IMMORTAL WORDS OF SPOCK, “LIVE LONG AND PROSPER!!!!!!!!” 🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖
Making Cedar Point the "Coney Island of the West". Coney Island has since fallen into relative irrelevancy, while Cedar Point has become maybe the greatest Amusement Park in the world.
Ohio actually had a Coney Island too, down south. It flooded a lot, and was given up on, and now we have Kings Island. An even better park than CP. Granted, CP has the better rides, but KI is the better park. Actually voted #3 park in the US, while CP voted #6.
I feel like Cedar Point and Blackpool Pleasure beach was on the same level (rides wise) all the way up to the 90's, after The Big One and Magnum XL 200 BPB just stopped expanding.
I love looking at the fashions of the past but I can't begin to imagine how hot those people are with no air conditioning and all those clothes. Funny today how formal those outfits would be considered and definitely not something you'd wear to an amusement park.
Hey cutie the reason everyone is so well dressed is because co used to be a place where wealthy men from Cleveland used to go for weekends or for vacation and local women would get cute, dress up and hang out near the beach and try to snag a rich hubby. No bullshit. They sell a great book about CP history in the park which actually admits that used to happen all the time. Where there's rich men women will follow
@@robhausman2839 you are weird. Thats what majority women wore. It wasnt a whore palace. Even starting out the comment as "hey cutie" was creepy as hell
20:51 Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh, PA still has a "Noah's Ark" like this one. They existed at a few parks. IIRC, the one in Pittsburgh, is the last of its kind.
My father loves Cedar Point.I went with my ex-wife.We had a good time, but I got these marks on my neck from the indoor coaster and another ride failed because a guy couldn't pull the bars into the locking position and they tried to shoot it off out of the Volcano anyway. It fell backwards and got stuck right at the beginning where you are shot out of the Volcano.
"During the depression of the 1930s cedar point had a great idea when they added the most popular ride of all time Your Grandma. Your grandma gave over 200 million rides and her offspring still work as ride operators to this day!
Since Kings Island is building the tallest and fastest giga coaster now, would be cool to see Cedar Point make a 500+ft tall coaster and reclaim tallest/fastest in the world especially since these 2 parks are only s couple hours drive away.
Just bypass The Jumbo Jet and Wildcat. Those Rollercoasters were a part of Cedar Point's history. Cedar Point acts like those 2 attentions never existed.
The only thing I walked past in Cedar Point during the early 70s to present, maybe I walked through once, is the museum. There was a museum right, down the the back of Frontier town? I hope my memory isn't failing me. What I wonder is, if I would have hung out in there, instead of trying to get on coasters, was were they playing this video? Maybe old aunts wanted to go in there and cool down and watch some TV. Anyway, maybe that's not where this came from, but pretty kool either way.
2:56 How things have changed. Looking at this still frame, the only way I can see to get up there is to climb a latter!! (On the right, the wider column. If there is another way, let me know! But I can't see it.
@@stlouisflix1 they are doing 15 min. City Cleveland has 4 places after a 15 minute drive you have to pay carbon tax.their are other places that start it too
