Robert De Niro absolutely killed it! So happy he won Best Supporting Actor. 🔥

And consider this: Young Vito (De Niro) spoke Italian. Brando's Vito didn't. Of course because Part II came after, it wasn't like they could go back into the original and have Brando speaking Italian, but it shows the commitment to his craft that De Niro learned enough of the language to sound convincing.

lol...The young interviewer's face when the guy says, "you don't see acting like this anymore." It's true. I also believe that you couldn't make the Godfather or II today in the sensitive political and societal state we're in today. There are lines in these movies that you wouldn't be able to say without getting a lot of pushback from today's generation, which is sad. The Godfather and II were masterpieces because everything about it was realistic with realistic characters and realistic dialogue. You have nothing like this today. People don't want hard, cold reality these days unless it fits in perfectly with their own ideologies.

As Pacino acting roles go, I often ask which character is more vicious: Michael Corleone or Tony Montana? I maintain that Michael Corleone is. As vicious as Tony Montana was, when it came time to blow up the car carrying the guy who was to go on TV to expose the cartel, Montana wouldn't do it because the guy's wife and kid were in the car with him. That decision ultimately led to his own killing. Michael ordered the deaths of his own family members. Carlo deserved it, but even after, when Kay asked him if he did that, Michael said, "I'll let you ask me one time about my business. Just once." Then, when she asked him, he lied right to her face. I believe that Michael truly wanted to make the family business legitimate early on after returning from Sicily, but once he got all that power, it consumed him. Long story short... Michael Corleone was much more vicious than Tony Montana. Anybody care to opine?

Don't forget that his first wife was killed in Sicily. That was the final trigger to " turn him". I have been to Ellis Island. The great hall where you see young Vito's arrival looks exactly like what is shown in the movie.

@@yvonneplant9434 When he returned from Sicily and reconnected with Kay, wasn't that when he told her about how his father runs the business and that he wanted to turn it around?

@@yvonneplant9434 it’s the colors, the way it still looks like a just made movie, it holds up so well…. Other classics in color like the 1950s musicals and others had a different color palette but this movies colored and lightning is superb! 👍❤️

The movie wasn't released until December of 1974, so it's not yet the 50th anniversary of the movie.

And in this movie is a scene where Fredo shows his "Godfather" brother Michael the town, they're in florida, and he showed Michael how the wealthy live in florida and that's where they IMPLY, it wasn't allowed to be shown, that what's going on, on the stage, is an introduction to MOM'S FOR LIBERTY! Because that's what the wealthy do. I was almost 17 when I seen it! And yes I saw the first Godfather. And I'm an Italian. And this is an explanation of why we, ITALIANS, NEEDED OUR OWN LAW! Don't ya know we're not like those white American criminals. R. I. C. O. Our own law! They also made us feel bad about using our hands when we talked!!!!!!! There was a lot of other bullcrap about us ITALIANS in the 60's. So celebrate this exceptionally wonderful movie. But remember what was going on in America when it was made!
