I RECALL WHEN I SAW THE MOVIE "SHAG" THE MOVIE WAS A GREAT AND THE BEST PART WAS THE DANCE CONTEST. IT WAS CLEAN, UNIQUE STYLE AND VERY ENTERTAINING WITH
We love SHAG dancing!! It's a great social dance that has such a wonderful atmosphere as you dance and have great conversations with fellow dancers. We have been blessed to take lessons and workshops from wonderful dance instructors Sam and Lisa West as well as Jackie McGhee and Charlie Womble. Dancing takes you places in life, and Shag has allowed us to travel to so many places. Let's all work to keep the dance alive for generations to come. Support junior Shag, dance classes, and Shag dance clubs in your hometown.
I discoved Shag only a few weeks ago. Superb. I love everything you all spoke of. Greetings from Scotland. Btw. My gson is a superb harmonica 'gob-iron' player so if you ever need a live player, he's yours. 😁🥰
I'm in love with this dance! The Watussi,is a bit of a workout, and Jitterbugging I don't wanna risk , I was good with it in my early 20's, but now, lol mending injuries But this dance is so perfect! It's got a sexy shuffle, to those shoulder's and it alternates distances. Love this.
You'll find it everywhere from Virginia Beach down to Jacksonville, FL - not just South Carolina. Don't know what they were playing in the background, but it wasn't Beach Music and how you going to shag without Beach Music? Should have had a soundtrack with the Tams, Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, The Tymes, The Embers or The Showmen.
Always something wrong. Why not enjoy the fact there's a video talking about the state dance? The point was it started in SC and remains a more pure form there than Va Beach or other places. Its not a gymnastic floor exercise or pairs figure skating like some versions have become.
It makes me sad that the true origin of this dance was not stated in this video........ it was definately not started by waitresses and lifeguards in the 40s 🙄
@@pamelarussell4699 I know it originated from the swing and I've seen videos of dancers saying they went to some of the black clubs and that the old RnB was the best music that they ever heard. I believe they just put their own spin on it.
