A great point he made “THE MUSIC IS GARBAGE “ people are tired of hearing about violence, drugs, k!lling and s3x….people are desiring music that feeds the soul….
Right just overall negativity and negativity sells. If you're a positive rapper, and have the dopest bars and your Music's uplifting the industry won't hear it
And to add to that.......people don't want to give the industry credit, because all the artists want to believe the labels just STOLE from them, BUT there was something known as artist development. Somebody would sign and it would be two years until they dropped an album and that in between time was building the artists up. Seems like now, artists are signed and put out as they are. No development.
But are they willing to pay for it? Streams aren't making us money. We need to move away from that and back to paying for an album release online or physically. At least those thousand streams can turn into 1000 people paying 10$. Vs 1000 streams making less than a penny each. Cost way more to make am album
@@Ball_Hard we are moving into a time where it’s coming to an end…evil is going to become less profitable . These industries are crumbling. Spiritually will become the order of the day… those who refuse, won’t survive … start finding positive creativeness and let God do the rest…!
Andre 3 stacks said this 28 years ago. "I live by the beat, like you live check to check, if you don't move your feet, then I don't eat, so we like neck to neck"
That and most ""artists"" either rap, play guitar, or ""make beats"" aka produce. Or they're really talentless and try to DJ. Rapping doesn't take that much talent and skill - compared to playing an instrument - rock 'n' roll was ruined by boomers, and the world of music production/mixing/mastering is a lot more than just dragging and dropping a generic four-on the-floor sample pack drum loop. Especially if you want to work with synths. You almost need a physics degree to truly understand what you're doing and why. On top of that, you need to know a decent amount about computers, and the equipment/tools you need and how you're going to use them. And - if you're like me and want to write songs unique to you/as original as possible - you have to know what been done before and build upon that. Usually by learning music theory. Classical, jazz (hard-bop, bebop, modal, free etc, etc.), folk, funk, New Jack Swing, Nashville country of the 50's, outlaw country of the 70's, 90's trailer trash country, blues, prog rock, psychedelic rock, glam rock - the list of styles, genres and subgenres is endless. People who try to get famous as a musical artist - especially rappers - have no idea how to develop a sustainable career. They rehash and recycle the same influences and ideas. That's why artists on Spotify get less than a penny for every play. They treat it like non-music people who tell aspiring musicians that music is not a profession, but a hobby. Most pros recognize music for what it is: the most important and true artform ever developed. It's a religion and it's an obsession. And every culture, near, far, before Christ, after Christ - has relied on music in one form or another. Without music life would be a mistake.
Agreed also the ones that haven’t been wise and invested in other projects or deals done modelling acting started a shoe deal the ones that think they’re the best and don’t need to try are very silly.
Seeing celebrities go broke is a bittersweet surprise in life. I worked as a photographer/videographer and i was shocked when certain artists couldn't even afford to pay their videographer. I quit because there were too many broke rappers 😂 but what shocked me most was female models showed dignity and actually wanted to pay for my time. Majority of rappers are renting cars for shoots. It's all fake. Nobody has money so never feel bad about yourself
This artist years ago that was out back in the days… I mentioned his music on a page and people bought his music,… he became obsessed with me… Hough I was gonna make him a millionaire. He never sent me a check. He wanted me to mention his music every day so h could pay off his hous or bills. He didn’t even promote his own music. He thought he had free PR… I just said one line and he acted like I did a whole campaign. I did neither. This other singer in another state, commanded I send his music to a gospel artist. These middle age men trying to be an R&B singer. At my expense. I can’t like nothing or support the arts without these men catching feelings. I blocked all of them.
They may not tell you they're broke but there will be signs. Like the ads for those scam ass bingo games where you can win "real money". Soon as I saw Cardi B and Snoop advertising that shit I knew this shit was all cap. They looking for work just like us. Finding it on scam ads is crazy though.
They could probably live comfortably if they weren't trying to live a lavish lifestyle also. Like if they were living a regular life they could be comfortable but they chasing the Kardashian extravagant life.
Music died when it was taken out of school. Many of the best bands that hit it big in the 70s and 80s meet in high school. And, they learned how to play instruments. I believe that this is why music programs were removed from schools.
Jewish/European/Asian Communities still have Music Programs because they run their Own Schools an Blackfolks don't know how too Build Community since 1492.. InsaneB'Fools..! All Industries feed off of eachother but Blackfolks are one dimensional when it comes to Business..
That generation is in and thriving right now theyre just re running the Gangsta Era of rap except their targeting our daughters straight up without a care.
In the early 2000s the labels got rid of a bunch of people after Napster and limewire came about. Everyone stopped buying music and there was no streaming
I read a book a decade ago about how the music business worked. I never looked at any artist the same: it is all a facade, if you do want to do music do it independently
high achievers are typically very intelligent, especially when they know how to pick the right people and how to present themselves. this is very serious work, and most artists have to have some sort of understanding of music business, or they won’t live comfortably after retiring, let alone have a good career. it just means they know what they are doing, and have the foresight to say “i need to make this decision on xyz.” years before they start making music professionally. most people start working on their skills before they even graduate high school.
When I saw beyonce selling shampoo and liquor I was like wtf😂 I understand she is a billionaire... But it's a reason why she is tapping into so many markets
Do you comprehend that black people only make up 13 % of the population, but black hair are sales are billion dollar industry? It is very smart to sell black hair care - Asians figured this out decades ago. I get that you were throwing shade, but we are ignoring actual money being made due to us , and these people are not even black.
Rick Ross is rich because of endorsements and investments. You're not going to be that rich just off music unless you're touring like Beyonce and Taylor Swift.
@@TM-nb9zfI like the retired athlete podcasts tho. They give good insight. It’s what the sports world need. It’s been way many people who don’t play sports putting they two cents in for a long time. It got to stop
Humanitarians will be the new celebrities. The capricorn age that was about materialism is over. Aquarian age is about humanitarian work and will force people to question the works of celebrities and what they’re doing for their communities. Welcome to the shift.
Bro the point you made at the end about no classics being produced anymore is so spot on. It’s not much music I can think of in the last 10-15 years that’ll be considered timeless like some old school hits that still get spins today. 💯
@@InflationProof28 I said “not much music”. Obviously there’s some bright spots here and there. That being said B.O.B as an artist has never been my cup of tea
The fact that Diddy just offered to put up his houses worth 50 million says alot. He doesn't have that kind of "cash" or money in his bank account. Its smoking mirrors.
You need collateral for the amount of money it would have cost for him to get out. They don't take large sums of cash. They need assets. Doesn't mean he's not broke, but it was basically mandatory for him to be released if it were to be granted.
Either you got creativity or the money it’s very hard to have both. So in reality most times there where always be someone with the capital to take most of the profits of your creativity. But those who have the capital take all the risks if you go bust. So is it really wrong for a capitalist to try to protect their investments as much as possible?
But even when they had talented singers they robbed them. It's said Sam Cooke's business manager set him up, his family has all of Sam's royalties, Jackie Wilson was beaten up by mafia as he paid them for protection etc. They died broke, even elvis barely had no money. Maybe that's why there aren't talented artists in the mainstream now, behind the scenes but they're making money in different ways. No one cares about talent
Why would musicians make money? Album sales are trash, concert tickets cost $500 (and liveNation gets $499), and streaming platforms get revenue from advertising so it doesn't matter who gets listened to, as long as somebody is listening.
Part of those concerts not selling tickets is the price of tickets. A lot of live nation deals were done and they recoup those crazy advances to the artist through tickets, parking, alcohol, concessions and a percentage of the merch artist sell.. It’s all a monopoly, and the “biz” model has failed because of the ridiculous attempts at cash grabs.. Ppl pay over a grand to get a photo op with an artist.. And that’s AFTER paying just as much to a second or third tier scalper.. Ummmm … I meant.. “ticket service”
There is a difference between musicians & celebrities. Most celebrities have no business in that so im glad it's falling. It has to be removed for something better to replace it .
It all depends on the lifestyle you choose to live. It is very hard to maintain a life owning expensive cars and Mansions etc. All that comes with also paying high taxes.
You mean people will do it because they love it because the money aspect will be gone, if no one is making money the real people who love it will still be there.
These artist live off of loans, debt, and borrowed money. If the very top artist end up broke that lets you know what the smaller artist are truly earning! Ppl better create a business, gain a skillset, or develop a talent otherwise you will be broke like everyone else!
Great video. I would like to add another point that no one talks about. And that’s digital downloads. I’m older than you(46 years old), so I seen first hand the switch from physical copies to digital downloads with the introduction of Napster and eventually iTunes. I remember when artists would make 1-2 good songs, and then release the album. A lot of times, the rest of the album would be average at best, but you were forced to buy the entire album just to get those two songs. Now, with digital downloads, we consumers can just pick the specific songs we want. Keep in mind, some of that revenue from this downloads go to Apple first, then the labels, and then eventually to the artist. Imagine how little that revenue is if they’re only selling a couple songs at a time at $1.29/each.
Jay Z being as successful as he is was truly down to him being rejected by every label and having to do it himself - retaining ownership. But he wouldn’t have been able to do it without all the drug money he had made at the height of the crack epidemic while being in New York City (giant amounts of demand for it). It’s funny how much the environment and fluke circumstances can influence the trajectory of our lives. Not taking anything away from him, he could have easily squandered it along the way, but so much was initially in his favour in a weird way.
Seems to me nowadays to live you have to work yourself to near death doing things you don't want to do to have something and a lot of people put what they have on messed up Foundation that will eventually crumble
I think this speaks to a general trend across the board, tbh. I like the part where you mentioned how labels aren't doing artist development anymore. You can see the same thing in other sectors. I mean, look at Boeing, for example. Their name was synonymous with reliability and they had standards. They dreamt of things and they invested in research and their top engineers. I don't think I have to mention their reputation now. I don't know anyone who wants to get on a Boeing plane, lol. I think we're getting to a point where (or maybe we've already gotten there) where the people in charge of organizations are just too cynical to dream anymore. They wanna maximize their own wealth first and then worry about whether they're going to have some legacy that will revolutionize things that people will care about second. That attitude trickles down and I think that's why things just feel so stagnant for people right now (not just musically, but everywhere)
The problem is that artistry is SO heavily including consumerism, that it’s the way you look rather than talent that’ll get you famous nowadays. We live in society where we’d call a fraud an artist, versus allowing people who actually have the artistry under their belt to shine, but the. Again, us as consumers give these people the attention. I don’t see this changing anytime soon unfortunately
First off, thank you Sir. As an Artist who does it all, this valuable information spoke to my soul. Independent works for me because i dont believe in compromising my art. Have a Great Day Sir.
Another way the music industry went wrong is with the high cost of tickets to attend live shows . paying hundreds of dollars for tickets to a music concert just ain't going to work in this economy . Our unit does shows the tickets usually run about $25 , the venue is full and people enjoy themselves and have a great time without feeling guilty about spending their hard-earned cash on a non necessity .
I was a rising artist while in the military stationed in Japan, and I definitely got a taste the industry. I felt kinda like Eminem. I love the music but not the fame so much.
there really isn't any point in being famous, it is more of a headache and slavery than anything else. imagine having handlers up your butt, 24/7, telling you there's an interview to go to, a contract to sign, an advertisement to do... no thanks the media makes it look like its something we should all aspire to but nobody talks about how you have to trade your morals in for all of that. i rather make music with my friends and just enjoy it for what it is. DIY all the way.
I've been telling people this for years and they always laughed in my face, called me crazy, told me I didn't know what I was talking about. Laugh at me now. And it's not just the music industry, it's all industries. Notice how all these big time politicians, when they're running for office. what is the first thing they do. Beg us regular people for money. Remember when they used to have telethons. Rich famous people on TV begging regular people for money. What do producers do, beg for money. Everybody's a panhandler, but they always want to look down on us regular people, who make these fools rich by being fans. I always knew the mansions were rentals, the cars were rentals, and the slave chains that the rappers wear are gold plated. And if real, returned to the jeweler after use. The fan base made these people rich. and the way they talk about us on the internet, we're stupid, we invade their privacy, although they put all their personal business out there. This is what happens when you think you're a God sitting on top of a throne. Thinking that you're better than others, and forgetting who made you rich in the first place. Forgetting who put you on that throne. Oh well, welcome back to the real world. What are they crying to us stupid stan fans for. Why are they whining to us. What did they expect when they chose to play in the devil's playground. They chose to be a part of that club. Bet their asses are humbled now.
Everything you said facts, but some of them still living better than the average person... honestly tho, this aint about the money i just love doing it so if i cant make no money like that or just make enough to pay my bills im good with that, I got other hustles anyways
These Streamers really exposed them. They make more. They get as many eyes on them EVERYDAY than most Touring artist can with no OVERHEAD. Some of them even Rap better(Not as good at song making or hit making as an actual Rapper though).
The Financial Issues Of The Music Industry Only Applies To American Entertainers. The U.S Federal Bureau Is Controlled By The British. It's Director Is From Great Britain.
Its a much issue than just 'Black music' or music in general. A lot of truths shouldv been revelated atleast 10 years ago organically but they manufacture a lot of problems.
This is one of the best videos describing the state of the mindset surrounding the industry's issues. This presentation needs an award. This needs to be part of a business/financial class curriculum.
Watched to the end, great video. You added a lot to the original content creators make a cohesive picture. Appreciated your perspective, hope you grow !
It shows no one is understanding the music industry, there is a massive amount of information of how bad the music industry is. Why don't black people learn!
Pay attention to that new UMG and Meta Deal. Rory from R&M was watching a producer in the industry talking about that move and what it might mean, shifting how we gonna perceive music. That new deal might capitalize off the AMOUNT of USERS that use that their song or any clip of the "sound" and how much engagement it reels in. He mentioned how kinda weird it was that Drake and Kendrick were dropping their disses on IG first prior to any other platform for the songs that did drop on other DSPs (I kinda feel this is a reach but it might have some point cause Kendrick and Drake are like the biggest within the industry and most likely know how to move within this space). Kendrick got 40 Millions views in 30 minutes to an hour while the VMAs was on and they couldn't even get that amount of people to watch that at the same time he dropped "Watch The Party Die". He didn't drop that on DSPs nor RU-vid, it's only us that's reposting the song on RU-vid cause nobody on PgLang is even uploading it. The industry is about to really dumb down how we perceive music and just chalk it up as a app "sound" for some people. Really bad move too cause again the labels are siding with the people who will determine how that payout is gonna look for artists, the ey'll obviously tune it for us to get the lowest cost per stream and Meta and UMG will pocket the bigger percentages themselves.
I can agree to a point cuz imma use Gucci mane he’s not really broke look at what he did before I left an on top of that I done met this man in person in Atlanta cuz I’m born an raised there but when I seen him at the gas station that nogga was in his red rr with boo coo bread an all his team had bread 😂
That's what the enemy does he lures you in and leaves you dry!!! This is a testimate to the power of God!!! He is shutting all this shit down!!! The Bible literally tells you about it and it did not lie! People need to stop worshipping these false idols!
They need to follow the lead of the UK artists. They make real money & flip it. Uk artists become millionaires with a smaller market, US artist continue to rely on labels even though history tells them it’s a shit deal
Best thing to use music for is a gateway to acting, sports, news, ext.. That’s where the real money is. I hope people stop making music for money, I always knew it was pointless. Until the music has passion, which is what draws us listeners into a trance like world of sonics. Without that passion, the music is falling flat everytime. The issue is a lack of passion. Passion will bring the money to those who truly deserve
I’m an engineer, I work a 9 to 5 job that pays well. My net worth is more than most of these artists. I’m proud I never got lost in that sauce and decided to do something practical to be just as successful if not more successful than these artists.
