Wow! He had a sad personal life. I only knew him from In The Heat of The Night. You never know what people go through, he was battling a lot of demons. RIP.

This man was living what seemed to be a beautiful and charmed life and I couldn't understand why he would turn to drugs, until you mentioned his crossdressing. Poor dude... behind all of his accolades and accomplishments, he couldn't live the life he truly desired. That's so sad. And sure a terrible ending to his life as he must have suffered so horribly. One never knows what goes on behind closed doors.

This story was so needed. Rollings was a beautiful, talented, emotional and method actor. When I was a teen in the 90s, I enjoyed watching him in Ragtime and A Soldier's Story. My mom who passed away recently loved In The Heat of the Night, now I find myself watching every season. ❤❤

After listening to this story I nearly broke down! What A TORTURED LIFE!!! I knew he passed away in the 90's but I didn't know why. I do now!! In the heat of the 🌃 was my show to watch because of Carol O'Connor's slickness and sense of humor and Howard's "Hard as nails delivery" in his passionate performances! I had to make sure I had the opportunity to catch the reruns! Nearly 30 years has passed and it seemed like a blur! Rip to both Howard Rollins an Carol O'Connor!

I remember as a kid in the 80s me and my aunt used to sit up and watch In the Heat of the Night all the time

In The Heat of the Night is still my favorite show. I still watch it today. You should watch when you have time Ashley Say So. She did a story about him too. I know that it would be epic if you both link each other story together about him.

I use to watch in the heat of the night with my mom all the time in the 90’s it saddens me to hear how is life ended and all of the demons he was battling God rest his soul ❤️

I had a serious crush on Howard Rollins ..fine as 🍷 and awesome actor, Solider Story, Heat of the Night, Ragtime, Roots Next Generation, King ..Chile followed his career and cried like a baby when he passed away. I ❤️ him and YES he was UNDERRATED ACTOR! Serious roles like Denzel

A Soldier's Story: Everyone in this movie brought their "A" game!

Several of the men on the movie "A Soldier Story" were ghey and died of A!DS. We loved him and all of his roles. That Medger Eyvers movie was amazing.

I remember him fondly growing up. May he continue to rest peacefully 🙏🏾

Back when I was a little girl, I remember my mom watching A Soldier Story and seeing him...then In the Heat of the Night, I remember my grandmother watched it. I could tell back then that he was gay. He was a really good actor though and I think that played a huge part in his drug addiction and depression.

I was soooooo heart broken when this brother died....He just couldn't get right, despite being a DOPE actor. Such a sad ending to a phenomenal thespian. RIP brother...

Great video!! I could watch "A Soldier's Story" everyday and never get old. Everyone's acting in that movie was superb! Of course, everyone had to watch in the heat of the night with their grandmother 😂. Since my family is from MS (although it wasn't shot there), they still felt it was down home to them. One of my favorite episodes is when Howard/Virgil accidentally shot his cousin and his Aunt said they weren't family no more...the way that man cried had me in tears.

I sleep with the TV on and In the Heat of the Night was on as I was waking up. As I watched it I wondered where he was and so I Googled him and this video came up. I hate to hear how he died it is so sad. RIP Howard 😥

Soldier's Story was my absolute favorite movie by him of all time. His acting in that movie surpassed anything that he had ever done up until then. I was devastated when I found out that he was gay cuz I had kind of a crush on him. Kind of ruins the fantasy when the object of your affection has their affections on someone else. But he was a talented actor who will be greatly missed. And cross-dressing? I never would have thought it

When I first saw Howard Rollins in the movie Ragtime back in 1981 I was blown away by how great his acting was . He was so good I thought he should've won an Oscar . Then In A Soldier's Story , to me he cemented his acting greatness and should've won an Oscar for that performer but we know the Oscars aren't to kind to Black actors but you know what, Howard didn't need that award because he was the greatest that I had seen . I was surprised when he career went off the rails but you never know whats going on in a person's life . RIP Mr Rollins .

Carol O'Connor son was on the show and also had an addiction problem. I believe he died of an overdose. He helped Howard because he knew that addiction is an illness.
