Video was shot in the front room of a house in Waverton Sydney. One take live. It was their place and not much money around. I was in the back room enjoying every second. Never forget . Rob

Been trying to find the lyrics to this song, all over the internet. I couldn't, so I wrote them myself. (to the best of my hearing, these are the words) You're welcome, internet. BILL BONNEY REGRETS Meanwhile at the process plant, there's a process goin' on Negation and sterility, patient disability Reconstituting you and me, a reflection of himself While at the house of learning, inside those hallowed halls Students in the old schoolyard, their mum's were workin' very hard Just like in the prison yard, and uniforms are free And in the factory of lunacy, the wheels are grinding on And things are looking pretty grim, they sing a cacophonic hymn And medicate the soul within, to neutralize the passion The headline is screaming, corruption in the force Well they took that money and killed a man, selling junk inside the can Cops and crim's walk hand-in-hand, and it's called free enterprise Then we come home at 5 'o' clock, and turn the TV on And the news is what we want to hear, electric magic diarrhoea Touch a thousand nameless fears, in the comfort of your home Underneath the big top, it is, election time again Laugh and damn us all to hell, find an issue make it sell They're not good, they're just not well, and it's called democracy

I learned the song by heart back in the day from the inner sleeve of "Turgid Miasma". So here are a few corrections: Students in the old school yard, get marks for working very hard They laugh and damn us all to hell, find an issue they can sell They're not good, they just hide well, and it's called democracy

Excellent, one of Australia's finest. - The living room makes a great set for this - gotta love the strategically placed copy of "Raw Power" on the turntable. Thanks for posting.

The days of real guts and blood Australian bands.A scene that no longer exists, so many top bands with a strong underground following. What ever happened???Our aussie bands from that period of time would still shit on alot of the crap we hear today. The Celibate Rifles, We love and miss you.Long live pub rock.

I'll never forget going to Sandy's Records in Dee Why in 1982 to buy the latest indie records that I'd heard on Radio JJJ FM. I said hello to Nigel and Jenny, then went to the 7" vinyl section and flicked through the records when I came across a copy of "But Jacques, the Fish?" I grabbed it with the excitement of youth. Nigel gave me his usual 'background' story about the artist I was purchasing. At the time I didn't know I was buying an important piece of history. One of my treasured vinyl Singles is "Sometimes" "Sometimes when I get home I just wanna go out again" One of my favourite gigs was at Bryant's Manly Vale in 1983 where I saw The Scientists and The Celibate Rifles. I always got a laugh when Couvret wore his Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles footy jumper on stage. Another great memory is seeing The Rifles at The Strawberry Hills Hotel, SurryHills back in the hazy 80's when Damo told the crowd they were going to attempt a new song. Damo then proceeded to read the lyrics from a sheet of paper. Damo asked the people in the crowd "how do you like it up the back?" "There's a lot of people in Sydney that like it up the back!!" We loved Damo for many reasons and his dry humour and high level of applied intelligence were just two of them. Oh and he wasn't a bad frontman for a great Rock Band either. Remembered forever, the great Damien Lovelock.

Not just the song but the Beatbox intro brings back a lot of memories of growing up in 80's Australia. I used to like the interviews between songs and I'm sure if you watched them now, it would provide an interesting insight into society back then. I remember that everyone was a something, whether a headbanger, lemon, trendy, punk, wog (like me), wesite or some other label.

Unbelievable...I, too, saw the Celibate Rifles at the Brewery in 1986/87 (not sure of exact date). Not only did I enjoy a rocking show (for $4, American), but got to talk their ears off after the show. One of the all-time greats!

I still remember on one of the Rifles tours in QLD when I and Damo went to get the money from the Promoter and went into this building and Damo looks at me and says with his fingers in her pocket, This look like a gun? and at that moment kicks the door open and ask the boss for the payment for tonights show the guy says no, so Damo lets him have it with the old finger in the pocket trick and screams out give us our money a few times and waves his fingers around the room, the guy gives up the cash and Damo says to run for your life to the van. we got to the van and made a great getaway and the band and crew can eat tonight. RIP Damo.

Loved the Rifles since first hearing them via a friend from Australia around late 1983 or early 84. I am from Vancouver so I was super fortunate to get into them earlier on....however, THIS song is my absolute favourite of their excellent catalogue

Love the Rifles! Saw them heaps of times in the 80s & 90s and they are best live and loud. I also love this clip in particular as there's a Coloured Stone poster on the wall and my brother was playing with Coloured Stone at the time. Thought that was awesome back then!

Great song. I first saw the video when I was about 12 or 13, back when you could turn the TV on at midnight and expect to hear some good, varied, and unusual music. I have never been into vocals that much as a rule, but the way in which this vocalist got his point across then shut up and let the rest of the band convey the mood between verses meant I remember this song long after I have forgotten many, many others I saw at the time.

Not true. "Most bands were about style and fashion". Most crap commercial bands were about that but there was an amazing alternative world that we reveled in with bands like Connells, Husker Du, Midnight Oil, REM, Feelies.....I could go on and on.
