Despite the 90s production and the fact that it's the most facile pop song she ever did (IMO) the vocal holds up. I'm almost positive that if she were answering truthfully in an interview, she'd say that she was trying to sound like Barry Gibb in most of this song, especially the ad-libbed little turns she does.
I’d remember it was Max Martin produce this song to her. And that when Britney , Christina , N’sync and Bsb was booming that year all because of Max Martin songs to them.
As evidence, check out her singing Mr. Paganini. Her jazz vocals are on point. And check out her doing imitations of every instrument in her backing band (I think the video is called "Celine goofing around") from guitar to percussion. One of the most versatile commercial vocalists ever, IMO.
If you want a debate do the "Does it Hold Up" to a Nickelback song, ANY Nickelback song. Many will say it won't just because they hate Nickelback (even though most probably sang along to a Nickelback song or 4 in their day). I love this series Brad. Take care all.
Brad just added a "Does it Hold Up" for Nickelback "Savin Me". Here is the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-800RExDGOTA.html Thanks for doing it Brad.
Backstreet Boys supposed to sing That's The Way It Is and Baby One More Time. But they choose I Want It That Way instead. Baby One More Time end up with Britney Spears. And then, Celine Dion also wanted the uplifting song for her new compilation album so That's The Way It Is was offered to her. All this 3 song slayed the charts in 98/99.
Same producer, but in fairness, everybody went for those weird post-production synth wah-wah sounds that he throws in everywhere in every song. That's what gives it the BSB "sound", and it sold tens of millions of records for a bunch of artists.
