Cello and Oud duet in an original joint composition by Ofer Ronen and Raquel Reis. Raquel, and amazing cello player, and me met in Spain, and when we got into quarantine, we took advantage of the situation and composed together from far away a piece for oud and cello.
When we met in Portugal in the summer we sat down and recorded this duet for oud and cello.
Nahar means river in Hebrew, and so the music aims to flow like a river, the Tejo in Lisboa, the Gangas in India, or the Nile in Egypt.
A bit about this music. The oud is an instrument usually played in Arabic music, while the cello is a very identified with western classical music. Composing together, we tried to find the places when the oud and the cello meet, and can dialogue with one another, accompanying or soloing.
