Located in the district of Guarda, Vila de Celorico da Beira is the county seat and is located on the left bank of the river Mondego, at an altitude of about 500m. It has a negative rate of population growth, from the trades of the past, only tin, basketry and sheep's cheese and sausages remain. The tertiary sector continues to develop. The landscape is characterized by the presence of granite. Here there are several fairs and markets linked to pastoral daily life and the famous Serra cheese, still made by hand. The Medieval Castle of Celorico da Beira took advantage of an earlier pre-Roman fort. Based on a Latin inscription found in 1635, some authors argue that the foundation of the castle is attributable to the Roman captains Nigro, Serbia and Junio in the time of Emperor Augustus Caesar. Restored by D.Dinis, it was considered a national monument in 1923 and later in 1940 the tower was rebuilt according to its original structure, the wall was raised and received the battlements. There are visible square and trapezoidal turrets and a tower, which probably served as a keep, with a rectangular plan with three floors, crevices with a straight arch and rectangular merlons. This castle served as headquarters for the French and Luso-British armies.

Founded by the Order of the Temple in 1230, it comprises 3 naves and a bell tower.
Located south of the castle, in a flat area. Its origin dates back to medieval times, and was built by the Templars in 1230. This was one of the first temples in Celorico at the beginning of the century. XIII. Naturally, this church has undergone changes over time, thus completely erasing its medieval origins. However, some traces of its medieval origin remain, on its back where there are five funerary stelae (monolithic stones with inscriptions)

Of medieval foundation, it was rebuilt in the 17th and 18th centuries. Its portal is Renaissance. The gilded gilded carving of the altars is complemented by the 110 paintings of the coffers on the ceiling attributed to Isidoro de Faria in the century. XVIII. The image of Santa Maria is a beautiful 16th-century sculpture in polychrome stone.

The construction chronology and its functionality raise doubts, as the authors who have already dealt with the subject are not unanimous as to the chronology of its construction and what the real purpose of its construction is.
For some authors, this building was built in the 14th/15th centuries, and is associated with a barbaca, which together with it would constitute the first line of defense of the Castle of Celorico. However, other authors argue that the construction chronology of this building is much later, having occurred in the 16th/17th centuries, with the function of receiving a public clock at a time when the installation of these equipments takes place in several locations from north to south of the Parents.

At Largo da Misericórdia, where you will be able to enter the interior of the temple, which belonged to Santo Isidoro, extinct in the 18th century. XVI. The Misericórdia passed when this assistance institution was founded in Linhares in 1576. Its foundation was Romanesque and was greatly altered in the 18th century. XVII. It has a Baroque carved altarpiece and interesting paintings from the transition to the 17th century. XVII in the chancel and a precious procession flag, which was present in 1958, in the Commemorative Exhibition of the Birth of Queen Dona Leonor, founder of Misericórdias, along with many others, was considered one of the most beautiful in the country.
