The McGregor-Verdejo Duo (Mark Takeshi McGregor, flute; Adrian Verdejo, guitar) performs Celso Machado's work for flute and guitar, Quebra Queixo.
Celso Machado (b. 1953) is a Brazilian Canadian guitarist, percussionist, and composer, living on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada (Squamish First Nations). For over forty years he has performed on concert stages throughout Brazil, Western Europe and and North America, performing alongside renowned guitarists such as Sergio and Odair Assad, Badi Assad, Romero Lubambo, Yamandu Costa, Cristina Azuma, Peter Finger, and Solorazaf, as well as being an opening act for Brazilian jazz musicians including Gilberto Gil and Bebel Gilberto. His composition for flute and guitar, Quebra Queixo, takes the form of a traditional Brazilian choro, the title taken from a popular Brazilian jawbreaker or gobstopper.
