Had a girlfriend many years ago named Janine Cornog, flaming red hair, big blue eyes, pretty and petite. Thought about her the other day so I looked up her last name and read that it was Welsh for a person from Cornwall. Now here you are with this!.

So I'm all into my Scottish and Irish and Welsh heritage, come to find out I have Cornish ties from a female line as well. Strong chance there may be some ancestors that go back to the Dumnonii! Who knows, I like to think so!

I am Y-DNA Haplogroup DF63 which they state this Insular Celt L-21 is found most numbers of this Cornwall area yet many of my lines are from Gododdin and Southern Rheged yet show many from Earls of Lennox first Earls DF63 before the Stewards took over the Earls of Lennox DF13. Many Kingdom of Strathclyde have the Damnonii of Alt Clud Y Hen Ogledd many Kingdoms two which I just mentioned which the Kingdom of Rheged became Welsh Kings of Gwynedd and Deheubarth. Do you have list of the Y-DNA of this tribe - there are a good Y-DNA reult of Southwest England that does show my Cornwall link with DF63 the brother of DF13. I have genealogy to the Gruffydd Kings of Deheubarth of the Royal House fo Dinefwr - but trying to understand this Cornwall link.

Cornwall isn't England. We're Cornish, not English and this is Cornwall, not England. Saying Cornwall is England is like saying Wales, Scotland or any other Celtic nation is England!

Most ethnic locals from modern Cornwall currently resides in England were actually Devonese or Dumnonian tribe not aboriginal Kérnôw person because Cornubian whose indigenous people were split into separation by land and sea borders from English occupation since past, Cornish people distribution was between Black and West Country also known as West of England and Britain.

Talking about goddesses, the river Tamar is named after a Celtic/Britonic goddess of rivers and streams called Tamara.

Great Beard, Puts mine to shame lol. My Grandad was from Devon, Always claimed our Family Name (Not my YT Name obviously) was originally Phoenecian and everyone of his Descendants has a Longer 2nd Toe than Big Toe, Usually known as a Phoenecian or Greek Toe, So he may well be right.

Hmm, no mention of the Dumnoni in Ireland, Southern and Northern Scotland. In Ireland they became the Leigin, in Southern Scotland the Nucleus of Strathclyde or Cumbria. Called the Leigin because of their worship of Lug. The sun god, farmers traders.

Just wondering why you're using your Toyota sewing machine to store a can of Heinze Scotch Broth? 😂On another more relevant note, many of my ancestors from recent centuries have lived along the south coast from Totnes/Kingsbridge/Slapton in Devon to Saltash and Liskeard in Cornwall, as have a number of ancestors going back further, and tracing, through Alfred's royal line, back to kings of Dumnonia/Cornwall around 300ad. Much of my dna profile is described as Wales (perhaps this translates to 'ancient Briton' i don't know) however another large part of my dna is described as 'Northern France/Southern England' and i wonder if this also translates to 'ancient Briton'? In any case i wouldn't be at all surprised if many of my ancient ancestors were Dumnonii.

Why do u think the Romans didn't take this region over? It's curious because it's the same region the vikings didn't take, what was then wessex
@NerdWorldHistory
@NerdWorldHistory Год назад
With the Romans where possible they worked with local leaders rather than conquer sometimes this cooperation worked well for who ever they encountered and from the Roman POV it was a win with the least effort and most reward. Other times it was they weighed the value of armed engagement vs reward and if it didn’t look like it would go in their favour they would find a different solution. The reality is despite their best efforts if you look around you the traces of the Celts and native culture has survived while much of what the Romans created has long gone. Not to demonise the accomplishments that the Romans did but as a braid statement native culture was hard to kill

I am Dumnonii Celt, a Brython the most numerous Celts who inhabited England/ France/ Wales & Southern Scotland As this island was completely inhabited by Brythonic tribes the Romans named the island Britannia. Before the Romans, the island was known as the Cassiterides to the Greeks, the " tin islands". Before the Celts Iberianians inhabited these lands ( stone age man). These people walked over from Brittany. The three countries of this Island have a common shared origins and history whether you like it or not. Do not let the homomisiacs ( haters of there own kind) tear apart and cancel our shared culture.
