I'm a violinist and I know that Máiréad is playing. Just watch her as she is dancing around. Her form is so perfect that she wouldn't need to be acting. She never lets her bow waiver and even though she's moving, her hold is relaxed and set. And gaelige101 is right. They wouldn't hire her to just look good.
LOL I know that this is way behind don't even know if you still look at the youtubes but I cant watch this concert without wondering what the 40 violinist were thinking when she was out there tearing it up... do they think she is amazing or do they think she is a hack with no classical skill. I assume she is using metal strings as opposed to catgut, but she moves around so fast that I can't tell if she is using 4 or 5 strings... and damned if I can figure out what bridge she is using.... sometimes it looks arched to me like a violin and sometimes flat like a fiddle. Seriously! That and the fact that I can't figure out how she has any hair left I would think she gave herself a haircut everyday jumping around like that and cutting it with her bow! Don't get me wrong just watching it you can see that she really is doing it... no one could be that accurate with the bow movement while dancing around and trying to sync it! I have seen her in concert live and no doubt in my mind it was real. Anyway... just wondering what a violinist really thinks about her playing is it a wonder or an abomination?
@@tdanjones yes, both tbh. But it's so impressive I can't comprehend properly. She's been a huge inspiration to me and I've never seen anyone do anything close while maintaining such perfect tone. She's more of an urban legend to me personally, a perfection none of us can approach. But that's yet another reason I like her
What a delightful pleasure to see The ensemble altogether. LISA, ORLA, CHLOE, HALLEY, MEÁV, MAIREAD ON VIOLIN AND THE DUDE WITH FOUR ARMS ON DRUMS. FANTASTIC!
If this is them at their best, then they do need to be beaten. I remember when they started out, more or less, and this reminds me why I intentionally forgot them.
Ray Fean has a drummer's dream gig. He's not only getting well paid to do something he loves, but he does it in the company of a bunch of gorgeous women who sing like angels (and a violinist who simply boggles the mind).
I just love the energy when Mairead comes flying out like a sprinter out of the blocks! It's absolutely amazing how she can run and bounce like than and not miss a note! And for anyone who thinks she's faking it go see them live! You'll see she is not! I can't wait to see them again!
I've seen enough of their performances and shows to convince me that they're not fake. they're loved by millions of fans around the world who would swear they're the real deal. This group is a culmination of years of singing, performing, practicing and hard work by all of them. Mairead sometimes actually plays her violin during a live interview. it sounds exactly the same as performing. there's no way you can fake that.
I'm 3rd generation American, I still speak with a "Gallic" accent because I heard my grandmother speak it when I was small...I don't know if this "authentic in representation of the Celtic culture but for those of us who wish we were there instead of here it is beautiful
Are some of you people kidding me?!!!...Did we just listen to the same music? And so i guess what you're saying O Callaghan is that beautiful, elegant, lovely are not Celtic or Irish. If i were you and i'm glad i'm not i would think of the implications of my statements before i start insulting someone else and it really turns and reflects back on you! These women are lovely, beautiful, elegant. Their music is stellar and 2nd to none...light years ahead, above, and beyond. Oh and here's a poke in the eye to you haters out there, look at the numbers of views in the millions.
I love Lisa, Chloe and Mairead. They are my favorite, but I love them all. They all are amazing singers, and Mairead just throws her spirit into her violin. And Chloe can deffinately hit the notes I could never hit. Her voice is amazing and sweet. :D Mairead is dressed like a blossom. Very beautiful.
With pleasure! "Mo Ghile Mear" (My Gallant Darling) is an old Irish love song written in the Irish language by Sean Clarach Mac Domhnaill in the 18th century!!
My mom gives me weird looks when I play Celtic Woman and she always asks me if I have leprechauns or fairies in the basement. -_- I don't understand how she can't like this music. IT'S ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
Mairead mentioned in an interview that classical violin and Irish fiddle have different rules, despite using the same instrument. Fiddle, for example, rarely uses vibrato. Mairead had to learn to perform perfectly in both modes before she could start creatively breaking the rules and making her own synthesis. And in the middle of all that, she learned to dance. With Chloe "taking a break", Mairead is the last of the original five. If they lose her, CW is over.
I think that this performance is really the highlight of it all...the original members plus hayley is in it which just makes it even more stunning and the piece is just absolutely brilliant...been a fan since the beginning will always be a fan forever
The first time I heard this song, I loved it. I had never heard any other version, so Celtic Woman deserves credit for exposing it to the world. I have heard the more "traditional" versions since then, and this one still is my favorite, even if it might be a shade different than others. I dearly wanted to hear it live, and when they finally did it at a concert I attended, it totally blew me out of my seat.
Can you feel the river run? Waves are dancing to the sun Take the tide and face the sea And find a way to follow me Leave the field and leave the fire And find the flame of your desire Set your heart on this far shore And sing your dream to me once more [Chorus:] 'Sé mo laoch mo ghile mear 'Sé mo Shéasar, gile mear Suan gan séan ní bhfuair mé féin Ó chuaigh i gcéin mo ghile mear (He is my hero, my dashing darling He is my Caesar, dashing darling Rest or pleasure I did not get Since he went far away, my darling) Now the time has come to leave Keep the flame and still believe Know that love will shine through darkness One bright star to light the wave [Chorus] Amhrán na farraige Ór ar na seolta Amhrán na farraige Ag seoladh na bhfonnta... (Song of the sea Gold on the sails Song of the sea Sending the melodies...) Lift your voice and raise the sail Know that love will never fail Know that I will sing to you Each night as I dream of you [Chorus] Ag seinm na farraige Ag seinm na farraige (Playing the sea Playing the sea) Seinn... Play... [Chorus] Gile mear, the wind and sun The sleep is over, dream is done To the west where fire sets To the gile mear, the day begun [Chorus 2x] Ó chuaigh i gcéin mo ghile mear (Since he went far away, my darling) Amhrán na farraige Ór ar na seolta Ag seoladh na bhfonnta (Song of the sea Gold on the sails Sending the melodies)
no matter how angry or upset i seem to be, i cant help but put on a big ass grin when i hear this song... Mairead is a pixie that spreads good feelings to all
Celtic woman was on a high with this concert and having Hayley Westenra there was fabulous. I bought the DVD recently it's great watching it and the sound through the stereo system really does it for me.
They are truly blessed with angelic voices and they share with us their blessing!... I can't help it, but the lady with the violin comes in just like a gazelle! Beautiful!
This powerful 6 are the best batch of Celtic Woman..next was the batch of the "Songs from the Heart" batch (Lynn, Lisa, Alex and Chloe). That's it. Nothing else.
Meav is always awesome. Orla is another favorite. The drummers are rockawesome. Love all them. Chloe Agnew, Lisa Kelly, Meav, Orla, and Mairead always does rockawesome violin.
I have to agree that Celtic Women without Meav and Orla just isn't the same. The original group will always be the best to me, and why I became such a fan. Maybe a reunion can happen some day!
[Chorus:] 'Sé mo laoch mo ghile mear 'Sé mo Shéasar, gile mear Suan gan séan ní bhfuair mé féin Ó chuaigh i gcéin mo ghile mear (He is my hero, my dashing darling He is my Caesar, dashing darling Rest or pleasure I did not get Since he went far away, my darling)
Thank you soooo very much for info, I will get that video as soon as I can. I would love for Maev to join CW permanently, I hope she makes up her mind and stays with this magnificent group, that would be my dream come true.
I know it isn't fair to compare the current celtic women with the originals, but they just can't hold a candle to these 6 fabulous women. Harmonies are spot on even with each ones distinct voices. Simply stunning. I was fortunate enough to see their first 2 tours in America, and perhaps that is why I am so partial.

"He's my champion my Gallant Darling, he's my Caesar, a Gallant Darling, I've found neither rest nor fortune since my Gallant Darling went far away." Is the translation of the chorus
Some of you people are really amazing.Does it make you feel good or help you sleep at night to berate these women?I don't care if its real Irish or Celtic it sounds great and that's all I need.
Look up "The Foxhunter" and you'll see her dance up and down stairs in high heels. Then there's "Granuaile's Dance" in this concert, where she's barefoot for historical reasons, and "The Coast of Galicia", with the best version ever of her high-performance skirt.
Steve Rush okay but in this one her heels are really high the ones in The Foxhunter are lower and wider :-) and in Granuaile's Dance she still run's like if she was in high heels :-) in The Coast of Galicia you can tell she really miss a big stage to run on she is so talented and i really love her music
I finally got to hear a live version of all of this song (and not just the finale) at a CW concert in August. This has always been one of my favorites, but the live performance was even better than the recorded ones (especially when the choir came down a set of stairs at the front of the stage and continued to sing standing among the audience). I just hope they come within 300 miles of me again, because the best way to hear them is LIVE!
I think I'd rather Chloe stay the size that she is. If she were smaller, how could she contain such a big, sweet voice? It might... make her explode or something. Maybe her heart is so sweet, her skin can't take it, so it expands to a safe distance.
it's so sad that we live in a world where people truly believe that Miley Cyrus is talented. When we have such genius, talent, and art all over the world. Very sad! These girls are real
I love at the beginning how Lisa goes over and takes Chloe's hand. It's just soo adorable!! And the smile they give each other.. I just melt every time I see it.. :)
