Thats why people that onky focus on Jason Tatum points dont know basketball. He is creating open shots by driving to the basket, grabbing rebounds and playing defense. They have a 5 out team so anybody 2 other players can carry the scoring load. Tatum is showing his experience by not forcing a bunch of scoring, he is playing winning basketball.
@tommymy210
@tommymy210 2 месяца назад
yeah but it means we just can't put him on the same level as other guys who HAVE to carry the offensive load for their team to have chance. Nobody's saying he's bad or shouldn't play like this, but it puts him on a lower tier.
@22steve_
@22steve_ 2 месяца назад
@@tommymy210 or you can use context, to start tatum took scoring leaps each year when the team wasn't as good and has gotten better each year. also back when the team was mid (7th seed not a good team at all, but media will tell you it was a superteam) he was dropping 50 at quite an often rate even had a 60 ball in a 32 point comeback, in a series against the healthy big 3 nets (were cruising to the championship before injuries) where jaylen was hurt and the supporting cast was mostly overseas/g league players, washed kemba and tristan thompson he averaged 30 and fought even dropped 50 when nobody else on the team was a real scoring threat and to GET into that series/the playoffs without jb he had to drop 50 to win a play in game against the wizards. the following year he had one of the best playoff runs in recent memory until the finals where he HAD to carry the offensive load (was one of 3 players to average 21 7 and 7). when he needed to average 30 he did and in 23' his 2nd option jb got outplayed by caleb martin while jt was the best player in the series and carried the offensive load, i didn't even mention 46 in game 6 in milwaukee or a record for most points in game 7. but i completely disagree with lower tier because of scoring because on the flipside, what superstars can guard and play 1-5, initiate offense at an elite level, impact the game off ball by being one of the best cutters/screeners/just spacing and relocating to the open spots, gravity during fake dho's, post game, isolate, run pnr, be one of the best help and on ball defenders, dominate the glass as a non center, lead their team in pts rbs and asts otw to the finals AND lead in all 5 major stats in a series ?? tatum is more of a jack of all trades than any superstar out there so while he may not be as prominent of a scorer (debatable) he is more complete and brings WAY more than scoring to the table than the "guys who HAVE to carry the offensive load" lmao

Porzingis had best stretch of basketball I have ever seen. It was beginning of his last season in Knicks before injury. He averaged like 35 ppg for like 10 games or something. He was completely dominating the game and lived up to his Unicorn nickname. That stretch last night was that Unicorn. You cant guard him shooting 3s, you cant guard him shooting midrange. It really comes down to how healthy he is and how much freedom he is given. They need to keep setting him up for those midrange postup mismatches where he just turns around and faces the shorter opponent who because of height disparity got hit a few times and can just observe helplessly.

I'll never really understood for the life of me why the national media propped this series to be this classic wire to wire series. Boston outclasses Dallas in practically every important metric that you can think of. Tatum had a subpar game and only scored 16 points yet they still almost won by 20. Doncic and Irving has to play perfect practically every game and they'll need others to have multiple outlier shooting performances for this series to even be remotely interesting.

And the coach is legit, not wasting anything on media darlings pressure, taking players in and out of rotation, building team play mentality. I'm more impressed with Derrick White and Jaylen Brown, probably Al Horford professionalism in the mix as well. But the Celtics Head Coach is rocking it. Haven't seen this since Pop and Kerr in their prime. Obviously nice to have the bench, but you have to rotate the bench during the season to get to this point. Adam Silver meddling telling Clippers and Nuggets they can't rest top players is part of this season's story, but Celtics deserve to be where they are. Game 1 played out exactly to the design of the Celtics. Kuduos to Joe for a great game plan and for the strategic move with KP off the bench, Kudos to the players for executing it as seamlessly as you could hope. Playoffs are weird. Every game is very different, so we'll see how it turns out on Sunday... But the fact remains that the Celtics have answers for everything the mavs try to throw at them defensively, and as long as they are able to keep the complimentary players of the mavs at bay, it won't matter how great Luka and Kyrie are - Mavs simply won't win if those guys aren't getting 14 plus assists together and creating easy looks for the others.

That whole sequence that ended with the Jaylen block at the rim was a phenomenal team defensive sequence that Jaylen started AND finished by interrupting the alley oop then getting the block too.

Because of his career path thus far we all forgot that KP was the unicorn. I’m glad to see him happy and having fun playing the game again. And I’m glad Jrue Holiday got to go to a team that valued what he brings. And how in the hell did Boston also get 2 first round picks with KP? Danny must have taught Brad the art of the fleece 😂

This series isn't over after game 1, gotta at least see how game 2 goes.... But Dallas is definitely gonna need a much better performance from kyrie and some of their role players going forward otherwise they're cooked. Dallas margin for error is very thin in this series

Complete domination but there’s another game to played. Since so many picked the Celtics I have doubts the Mavericks can beat them but they shouldn’t be that much better. Hopefully the next game will be better and more competitive.

Crazy how the Celtics look so much better vs the mavs than they did vs any team in the east. Really goes to show how much better the east is than people pretend, and how slow paced and iso dominant the west is.

100, but mavs have to be pretty concerned about how it all went down. It wasn't a game where Jaylen or Jayson go off or the team scores 130 cuz they can't miss etc.. This was Celtics exposing the overall matchup advantages they have and there was really no actual answer the mavs found... They don't want to have the bigs guard the perimeter and protect the paint. Fine. KP is shooting over guys who are 2 feet smaller. Will he always hit at that rate? Prolly not, but he can expose that scheme pretty easily. When they DID bring them out, 1 they went with kleiber which was not very effective, and 2 that's when the jays were able to expose it and get to the rim with relative ease. Luka is going to get beat by most of the celtics perimeter guys. That's not changing. Same for Kyrie. The Celtics have the personell to make luka and kyrie have to work hard to get 1 on 1 shots, that's not changing.. So how are you going to find easy looks for PJ and company? It's a really.. REALLY tough matchup for the mavs and it feels like the only real answer is you take advantage when Celtics go cold and/or Luka/Kyrie combine for like 80. Overall it seems like Celtics are able to play the brand of ball on both ends they have all year. This is their comfort zone.. The mavs brand on both end essentially plays in to the celtics comfort zone, and they are going go need to step out of what they normally do which is a lot to ask at this point in the year, especially when a lot of the players are more "specialists"

Well I think one of the reason why he went through so much in the league is because of how things affect him emotionally. Ppl see him as a villain but he’s simply a sensitive n emotional guy. That’s the main reason he found peace on the Dallas Mavs. Ain’t as taxing emotionally as other teams n environments
