In 2001, archaeological excavations at Newbridge, near Edinburgh Airport, uncovered a surprising find - an Iron Age chariot burial, the first one known from Scotland. A carefully made replica of the chariot was part of the Celts exhibition at the National Museum of Scotland in 2016.
Here, maker Robert Hurford explains how archaeological evidence was used to recreate the chariot.

you skipped the most important part. what was used instead of bearings and how well does it work?

Lol. It's sad that this needs to be explained to people these days. You don't need roller/ball bearings or grease. certain material combinations are low wear and low friction as a plain bearing. wood/polished bronze, wood/polished iron, wood/leather/wood etc.

Would also like to know. This is the reason I searched it. If you search chariot bearings, you just get modern bearing videos

The oldest chariot in the world was found in the Chelyabinsk region. And this, by the way, is the first vehicle in the history of mankind on wheels. Moreover, according to scientists, it was on the lands of the Southern Urals that the very first wheel was invented, in the form that we know it today: a wheel on spokes. Here is a quote from wikipedia: "The center of the appearance of the horse fighting chariot is the area of northeastern Iran and the South Urals. The oldest classic-type chariot known to scientists was discovered in the area with. Chernorechye (Chelyabinsk region), at the archaeological site of Synthashtinsky culture - in the burial ground Krivoe Lake. And it dates from the XX - XVIII centuries. BC er. " That is, about 4 thousand years ago.

And that's wrong... The worlds oldest vehicle and wheel is a cart that comes from Ljubljana in Slovenia that was dated to 3360 BC. The oldest chariot burial comes from the Sintasha culture around the Urals and dates to 1950 BC. The oldest Pottery wheel uncovered comes from the city of UR in Iraq at 3129 BC.

Where did they get the shape of the upper part of the chariot from? It looks like a classic Roman shape. Celtic chariots are typically depicted in art as having hooped frames on the sides and open in front. Caesar mentions charioteers running along the chariot pole, again suggesting an open front.
