This is ridiculous. I wonder when this banning, censoring and rewriting of classic novels is going to end? When I was in primary school, teachers would often read Roald Dahl's books to us at lunchtime. I read Roald Dahl's books in my pre -teens. I remember how engaging they were. The Witches, The Twits, The BFG, Georgie's Marvelous Medicine. They were the kind of books that I didn't want to put down. Some things were a little naughty. So what? Kids are smart enough to know that they are just stories. They are there to be enjoyed. They don't have to be taken seriously. Now adults are looking for excuses to find them offensive.

What was Winston Smith's job in "1984" -- rewriting documents to fit the ideology of the moment.

These are children's books, it doesn't matter too much, but it's only the beginning, then they will go for other authors, they will go one by one, making minimal changes, progressively these changes will become more radical until they completely disfigure those works until they are only shadows of Those who were, there will come a day when Stephen King's horror novels will be turned into fairy tales.

I own all of his children's books and surely there must be millions out there. What's the point of publishing different ones unless they are to be marketed as 'altered' versions for specific parents. Puffin books market is so small that they're not going to sell any anyway.

OH MY FUCKIN' GOD! THE ANSWER IS SO SIMPLE! For those that find Roald Dahl's book offended here are TWO SIMPLE SOLUTIONS: DON'T BUY THE BOOK! CENSOR THE BOOK YOURSELF! (while you're reading it to your child change things that you feel offensive. Or take a pen and cross out the naughty words so your child doesn't read it.) It's like having your cake and eating.
