Welcome to another update video of the Centennial Corridor Highway Construction Project in Bakersfield California. This is Part 30 in the series, and today is November 29, 2023.
I want to give a special thanks to those who have helped support us here at The Heightened Perspective through their recent donations.
As some of you know, my last drone had a tragic accident several months ago and shattered on the concrete which is why I have not been able to release a new video for some time now.
I apologize for the delay, but I did finally replace the drone this last week and I am excited to bring you the final updates on this project and other fun videos as well.
If you enjoy our videos, please help support us here at The Heightened Perspective by going to www.Paypal.Me/TheHeightenedPerspec
And here we are out on the westside of highway 99, going left and right across the screen and 58 heading up toward the east. We can see where these highways will merge with the Centennial Corridor at this interchange. The southbound 99 direction is to the right while northbound is to the left.
The overpass we see there is Belle Terrace crossing over 99
The northbound 99 lane that merges into the 58 westbound, is now complete as we see it crossing all southbound lanes onto the Corridor.
Now that we can see this project nearing completion, go back and take a look at all the previous videos in this playlist so you can see just how much progress has taken place over the last few years. This has been an amazing project to follow and this transformation will make a huge impact to the growth of our city.
Looking ahead here at the piece that crosses over Stockdale Highway, let’s turnaround and get one more look at the interchange, offramps, and merge lanes that will take us to the 58 east, 99 south, and Ming avenue.
Please take a quick moment and click the subscribe button and follow this page so you can also see the next updates on this project as well as our other videos as they are released. And if you don’t mind, please go ahead and click the like button and add your comments below with your feedback. We also appreciate it if you would share this video to your social media channels so more people can enjoy watching our videos as well
As we cross over Stockdale Highway and head toward the north, we can see the La Mirada overpass, which has been open for quite some time, and the Marella Way overpass which is now complete and should be open at anytime now.
As we continue northbound along the Centennial Corridor, I would like to take a moment to thank each and every one of you who have followed along with our videos throughout the course of the last 4 years since I first started making them. As a Bakersfield native myself, this has been really exciting to watch as it unfolds. I would also like to thank all of you who have actually contributed to working on this project and I would love to hear from you in the comments to let us know what part you played in bringing this vision into reality.
And finally, as we head to the crossing over California avenue, we can see ahead where the Centennial Corridor connects to the Westside Parkway there over Truxtun Avenue.
I want to thank you all again for watching and for following along with our videos.
And this is Dylan Conner with The Heightened Perspective

Thank you....I was hoping to get one more video before it opened, and I had planned to go this morning. Now, with the rain delay, I will go do the next video once it clears up....showing it opened and traffic moving through it. Then, shortly following, I will create a compilation starting with my very first video back in 2019 and the video of phases throughout the process. It has been quite a journey and a very fun project to capture. Thanks for following and for the support!

Thank God! I was scared that there wouldn't be another video before the corridor is officially opened for service. The completion of the corridor will be a game changer for people like me who've used the Stockdale Highway to connect to Highway 58 East in the past. Honestly, I also wanted to comment that I like hearing clear voice work, as before the drone crashed it was extremely difficult to make out so of your comments. So, again congratulations on the new drone!

I remember watching them build 99 in the 1960s. 178 and the 1960s to 70s and 58 east of 99 in the mid-1970s. I took pictures on the construction site are the Highway 58 sites east of 99 to H Street. Bill formerly from Bakersfield

I like the aesthetic details on the overpasses of the mainline west of the interchange. It's nice to see them made more than just beams, sheet the deck and place rebar, pour the deck, pour sidewalls like Jersey barriers like 99% of highway overpasses.

I wish my Grandpa was still alive to drive this. He passed 30 years ago. He used to talk about this. He used to tell me that someday this fwy will be resigned to the 40. This has been in the works for a long time. He also wondered if the 178 would ever be completed to the 99. He was a fwy buff back in the day.

I'll try to start adding in some of those videos of the high speed rail as well. Where, around town, do you see some of the construction? It's a bit tougher to drive out of town to capture it.

Thank you...very happy to be back at it again. I'm bummed about Ming as well, we live in Amberton off Ming/Ashe, so if we come from 58, we have to either go all the way to White Lane or get off at Chester, both inconvenient. Guess we have to move now 🤣 Thanks again for your support Melissa....I gave you a little plug on the title screen in that video 😊

I grew up in Baker-town in the 70's-80's and always thought the way they "gave up" on the 58 freeway at Hwy 99 without any plan for the future was ridiculous. Perfect example of "small-town thinking". Thank goodness it only took 50 years to rectify.

Damn, I still remember going to that rental place in late 2020. I rented a trailer that day on a business by the Stockdale Highway, I saw excavators and machinery, and I was curious about what was getting built. And ever since I started watching these videos.

Did the illustrious individuals at CalTrans get this last stretch of road open yet? I kept hearing fall 2023 but not seeing it yet. I don't live in the state anymore, but do travel through this area from time to time and it'd sure be a huge improvement to have a straight shot at I-5 from SR58 westbound! Thank you for some cool drone footage!

@jre617
@jre617 6 месяцев назад
It appears to be 98% complete, but when will it actually open? I'm sure Caltrans can give you an estimate. Compared to your video last summer, looks like most of the striping has been added and some signs. But as with your other videos, you don't go far enough west for a good view of the new section connecting to the Westside Parkway. What is this new section called? Does it have a phase number? Thank you.

What happen to the exit off ramp traveling on 58 east to exit to the 99 North?
@dautolover
@dautolover 7 месяцев назад
Doesn't seem to exist at this time, unfortunately. The 58 east will split into three routes: 1) continue on the 58E, 99 South, or Ming exit. It won't take you to 99N.

All was done while flying, freehand. Only edits were audio additions and title screens....i'm still pretty low level with the tech stuff, but plan to learn more about the cinematography capabilities and start incorporating more advanced shooting techniques.

I still can’t figure out how I will get on the 58 eastbound most efficiently from the Stockdale and Ashe Road area. Will I still have to go all the way east on Brundage to Chester to get to the nearest on-ramp? Appreciate your video.
@TheHeightenedPerspective
@TheHeightenedPerspective 8 месяцев назад
I'm with ya on that, we are in Amberton right near you, but a little closer to Ming. So coming from the east, looks like our options are exiting Chester or going south to White Lane...I like neither option.
@dautolover

That sounds like the fastest route for you, still. Anything else would require you to go North, Northwest, or West (opposite direction) to catch the 58 on the Westside. Which isn't ideal.
