I enjoyed this video very much. I can imagine you made that 90 year old Veteran’s day. He was such a sweetheart and so eager to share his knowledge of his home town. Him witnessing someone’s head cut off caught me off guard too 😆 Random wandering adventure led to a great day. “You can do anything you want to if you want to bad enough”
I love that you spent all that time with that older gentleman, love the stories and his willingness to share. And he's driving at 90, and you got in his car!
My dad lived to almost 88 and drove until he died. He drove in his car. He was an excellent driver. I love this veteran. I wonder if he served in Korea. My dad served in WWII. He would have been 96.
Red is one of my best friends, and my neighbor. That OLD guy, has a PHD in automotive technology, and was 82nd Airborne in Korea, like my dad. He is like a second father to me.
@@ttcnc3755 I want to visit this town to meet you all. I could tell he's very intelligent and well spoken. Thank him for his service for me, please. I have a son who served in the Navy and was awarded with a purple heart. I respect those who serve our country. Thanks for sharing.
Oh my gosh, Adam, when you continue to visit more small towns, please try and find some of the older folks to speak to like the gentleman in this video. It's fascinating to see the towns and imagine how it once was, but to actually hear from someone who lived while the town was still thriving is invaluable. Unfortunately, they will not be around for too long and we need to hear their story. They are part of our history. Americana. Thanks for sharing these towns with us!
Dang. I work 5 minutes from that place with the doors/ex barbeque place.. I could have actually met Adam and Micah.. Thanks guys. What a filming duo... That was an awesome experience with you hanging out with that elderly guy. If he is watching this, I want to say thank you for your service. I say that to everyone I see with a baseball cap on. I say thank you and shake their hand. I can never repay you for what you have given us. Thanks again.
Adam. I am so thrilled you were one of the first vloggers I found years ago. Your stories and laughter and kindness just overwhelm me sometimes. Thank you from the bottom of my 62 year old heart.
Love your videos of the backroads and abandoned America, but it’s really special when you can spend time with people like this to get a real feel for how things were. Great video Adam!
Dear Mr. Woo, You were at my Uncle Jessie's house at 15:30. He ran the Center Hill Barber Shop for 42 years and is now retired. Aunt Wilma was the Town Nurse back in the day and helped birth many of the original citizens of the town. They had one child - my Cousin Yote. He is now an Attorney in Panama City and specializes in Loitering cases.
Aww bless the 90 year old man. Looks like he is having a humble life. His outhouse though reminded my of an outhouse in Sweden. They had a photo of the Swedish King and Queen in there. That had me in stitches. Sweet you took him for a ride. Wishing him all the very best in life ❤️
My grandparents used to live in Okahumpka!! They had 500 acres and most of it was woods that we played in as kids and then they also had cow pastures! I remember hanging out at their house and my grandpa would get phone calls from the neighbors saying one of his cows were out again, and we’d load up and go track it down! It was fun times, they had multiple small lakes on the property that we used to fish and swim in.
I agree and I think we should all go out and buy a copy of his book. So grateful that this wonderful gentleman’s knowledge and wisdom is written down for everyone to have and share.
I love listening to the locals and especially the elders. Man they can teach us all so much. Sure miss my grandaddy telling m about the history he lived. He and my grandmama were both born in 1898. Lost her in 1988 and him in 1993. When the older generation is gone there are so many stories gone with them if we don't listen. Love your videos. ✌️❤️🙏🏼
Adam, you and Micah absolutely made this man’s day! He reminded me of my grandpa that I miss so much, he also loved to tell the stories of his past. Our elders are the best history lessons available…always make the time to hear what they have to share.❤️ You and Micah and the time he spent with you yesterday, just became a part of his story. I cannot express to you how very much I loved this vlog- thank you.
Florida places to explore: Weeki Wachee Springs (just celebrated 75 years) Homosassa Springs, Micanopy, Cedar Key, the winter homes of Thomas Edison/Henry Ford, Gamble Plantation Historic Site, Pinecraft Village Amish community, High Springs, Williston (Devil’s Den), San Antonio.
❤ I grew up one town over. This, by far, is my favorite video you’ve made, as it truly tugged on my heartstrings. The roots and heritage run deep in this area and folks are very hospitable. Sadly, The Villages are encroaching on this area and with it will go all the charm. Thank you for this wonderful video!
Adam and Mica, I hope you both took in all the information that James (Red) had shared with you. All of this took the video to the next level with his willingness to share his thoughts and experiences living his life here. What a great experience for both of you it must have been (thought you were driving then the camera turned to James) and was amazed by him! What an awesome man and God bless him.
Brilliant video Adam. Really enjoyed it. So much can be learned in this world from people like the kind folks in your video. The gentleman who invited you and Micah to sit in the chairs and talked to you about his life and experience living in that community is a treasure. He reminded me so much of my Dad (who I lost several years ago).He loved the simple life and the old ways and he was always happy to share his knowledge of nature, and wildlife, and the flowers, trees, fruits, and berries with anyone who wanted to learn and listen. Just awesome, wholesome, feel good vibes throughout this entire video. 🙂
I loved this video so much! Your new friend is an amazing man, and you totally made his day by listening to his story. Your parents raised a very special person; anyone can see that they are very proud of you too.
Great video. Spending time with someone who can talk about the past is wonderful. My late Grandmother attended the Lindbergh trial and had a front row seat. We enjoyed hearing her stories of life long ago.
I love how graciously this gentleman hosted you and showed you around the area. He even introduced you to his friend brought you to his friend’s workshop.
Adam and Micah, this was so interesting, and enjoyable. I love the genuine enthusiasm, interest and knowledge of some of the local people. I particularly love these "backroads" adventures. Thanks, guys... 👏👏🤠🤠
He is a real testament of life, you can tell he has life experience in all ways and I love it ❤ I miss my grandma so much and never got to experience anything with my grandfather. Many blessing to this gentleman 🙏🏼
Back in 1965 I made a long distance call from a pay phone in Center Hill to Moultrie, Georgia. That was the first time I had used a pay phone. I figured that when you paid the requested amount of coins, that was all that was needed. Anyway, I was calling a girl, so I really was not concerned about how pay phones worked. Long story short, the phone company tracked me down and I had to pay an additional .75 cents. I like your videos.
Oh you KNOW we're all about ghost towns! Granted we're used to seeing Old West towns out here in the desert so seeing Florida scenery combined is a nice change of pace for us. Love this kind of stuff!
How special was it that you got to spend time with James and he share his time and stories with you. That was an unexpected highlight. Loved it. Great job and nice idea to just see where (and to who) the day leads you. Hope you do this type of video again.
I love Spanish Moss, reminds me of St.Augustine. Visiting all the small towns in Florida is something I have not accomplished yet! Thanks so much for the tour!💕🙏🌴😎
That eldly guy was cute he show you guys around his town . And you guys was so awesome to him this beautiful human being probaly was lonely and you guys made his day . Thank u guys . I love guys have fun and be safe.
As a FL native and an avid amateur explorer for many years ( not on social media- just for me) I really appreciate ppl that can find the same enjoyment out of these little nooks and crannies in our state. Florida really is so diverse- in nature too. The beaches are nice ( west coast is better). Springs are even more beautiful and there’s nothing like walking under an old live oak canopy. Thank you for your video and keep exploring the world. May you have safe and beautiful travels! Keep sharing the love and beauty of the world!!
Always great seeing you check out backroads and sights we all don't get to see ourselves. So great to see how well you can strike up a conversation with locals and they talk about there stories and other things thanks so much for sharing. Always enjoy these great videos
What a sweet dinosaur, all by himself, n a sweet man showing you guys his town!! He is amazing at 90 years old!!! I love older people to talk to all my life, n I still do at age 65!! He is a treat to have met!!
Another fantastic vlog!!!! I love seeing off the beaten path places. This is definitely one of my all time favorite vlogs you’ve done. The gentleman y’all met who took you around his community, that was special. Thanks for showing his book!! I immediately went to Amazon to purchase it. Can’t wait to read it. He really seemed like an interesting man. So glad y’all met him and spent time with him. Thanks for another wonderful video. 😊😊
Grew up in this area in a little town similar to these but it has been swallowed up by the same development and most of it erased...from existence. So glad to see you documenting this stuff for posterity. BTW, that was not a tornado siren, it was to call volunteers to the fire department because of an emergency.
Aaron, I would have guessed either the fire alarm or a nuclear siren. There are two nuclear reactors in Florida according to google. I was trying to search if that town was close to one.I live 12 miles from one and there is a siren close by on my road.
@NY tikibar I grew up in the same county, about 25 miles from this location. My uncle was chief of our volunteer fire dept for about 40 years. My dad, another uncle, and many neighbors/friends in the local community were also members. 2 rings of the siren meant grass fire (lots of hay fields and cow pastures at the time), 4 rings meant structure fire. There were other codes that were phased out as pagers and take-home scanners came around and the county eventually took over fire services as more housing development came along.
You live my dream, Adam. You go where you want when you want, hang out with your friends, have a great time and manage to pay your bills with the ad revenue your videos generate. More power to you, Sir!
Yes, Sandhill cranes on the sign, as for the Spanish moss, it isn't Spanish or moss, it is a bromeliad (air plant). It was used in bedding. If you feel it, it has a smooth feel going one way, and hairy catches going the other way. these catches catch the water that it needs to survive This also allows for bugs to catch in it. (Don't let the bed bugs bite) It needed to be steam treated before stuffing! Henry Ford had warehouses full of this. He used it in his model T seats. One batch wasn't treated and people complained and so he recalled them - This was the First Automobile Recall! (true fact)! The fruit stand was an old Quonset hut. The red berries were the American Beautyberry, they are edible but only after processing - they are sandy and gritty not to be eaten off the vine (only birds) lots of work involved to make them ready for eating - people make Jelly out of them and it is delicious!
@kathleenj.daniel1693 I found you much more interesting than these two guys. Very interesting about the Spanish moss. I've lived in Florida all my life and have always taken an interest in the kinds of trees, berry's etc...as one example our SeaGrape Tree and all the things that can be done with their leaves and grapes. But I never knew that about Spanish moss. Very nice of you to share . I really enjoyed learning that bit from you.
James, what a genuinely lovely gentleman, unbelievable that he is 90 years old, it was kind of him to give you a copy of his book, wasn't expecting the head slicing story lol, "the blood flew" loved the vlog, if you were a cow you'd be the one in the shade 😂, me to, in that heat
Yes the old man is definitely the best part of this video.... What a great opportunity to speak with original resident.... I really really loved the stories of Life experiences from the the seniors
Interesting note about the signage on the fruit stand. Those were called Gulf Signs. People always thought they were getting a good deal until they learned installation & permit not included. By the time all was said and done, they could have had a much nicer sign.
Lived in Polk county Florida for 4 years before moving to Indian Rocks Beach. Spent a lot of time exploring all the little out of the way places. I sure do miss Florida. Great video
Wow, James is a fascinating fellow. I'm interested in that book. I'd love to have one of those single seater porch swings, if I had a nice spot to place it in.
I really loved this video! I prefer these kind of videos to amusement park stuff, so it's always a treat to get to see small, disappearing towns of America! I liked the old timer who gave you the tour. I was having a drink of Coke Zero about the point where he mentioned the beheading, and I nearly did a spit-take! OMG! lol. I was in no way prepared for that story to take that sort of turn! Always great to see Micah in your videos too! I hope you do more road trips soon!
Thanks Adam and Mica. That's a fun and interesting video. The old gentleman what a sweet heart I bet that made he's day to. and a fee book I hoped he signed it. That cabbage and stake looked nice. It was great seeing old back roads and buildings again. I luv nostalgic things of days gone by. When it was a husling bustling community it had so much meaning then it has today. b Safe take care. from 🇬🇧👍👍 an old cockney gal
The "Irene, Coreen n Red Story" was totally awesome, especially when one of the ladies cut the other ones head off right outside the general store!!!! That cool older dude is an Okahumpka historian with actual real memories of the stories he tells!!! What a fantastic video!!! Thanks for starting my day off so entertainingly!! Attaboy Adam the Woo and Micah n The 90 year old dude!!!
awesome vlogging the old city Center Hill, God Bless Mr James dear sweet chap sharing all those fantastic stories showing us all that nice woodwork swings, carvings, his book looks so interesting too
This video made my day! I loved listening to the stories of retirees on the officers beach club on Okaloosa Island. I stayed with my grandpa when I was 19 for a year and he and my great uncle would only allow me to go there, lol they thought the enlisted beach area would not be a good idea for a 19 yr old alone at the beach. I made so many great friends back then. Thanks for sharing!
I used to use Spanish moss and pine cones in crafts lol then I learned you have to kill the parasite bugs, if you are going to vlog Florida, best to do it in the winter like this, when the humidity might not be as bad, it was cool and nice that you got a tour from a 90 year old veteran resident that lived there his whole life
The Coleman town buildings usage were excellent!!! It was like being at the old Six Gun Territory in Ocala FL!!! Love that they are still using them!!!
Love these vids. Born, raised and live in a small town so their quirkiness fascinates me, they are so full of history. Red was quite the character too, good local to bump into!
