Central heating airlock removal devices. Where to fit them.

Thanks for the information Al we never had any problems with air locks till we had a towel rad fitted in the bathroom ever since i have had to drain it down for various reasons i know there is a 75% chance of an airlock usually it results in no hot water rads seem to work my remedy for this is as follows we have a parkray cumbria fire/ boiler there ar no motorised valves or anything like that in the system and if i get an airlock i just light the fire till the water bubbles and it purges the air through the safety relief i know this isnt the best method Al but it works and its not for the faint hearted Thanks Al and your lovely wife for all the great content you bring us 👍👍

great video, really helpful, i have a 1 pipe system which i think has an airlock somewhere, just cant seem to find it, ill try what youve said here, but a lot of its under the floor boards which is a pain. Is there anyway to push the air lock back to a rad to remove it?

The ancient 1970's set up at our place doesn't need the pump working to heat the hot cylinder in the upstairs airing cupboard, it seems to work by convection alone through wide bore pipes. Don't know if that's unusual or not. 'Motorised valve'? This set up hasn't got one. The auto vent I placed in the airing cupboard worked fine when under positive pressure but as soon as the central heating pump goes on the pressure in the vent pipe goes negative effectively sucking air back into the system through the vent. I have now put the manual vent back. Grrr, have I got a outdated turkey of a system or what? On the plus side I do have a 1970's Cordon Bleu chest freezer that is still running well and a hoover nearly as old. Why do people want to have to keep forking out for battery packs when you can just plug it in at the mains for ever?

Hi Al. Could you check out this video of my boiler and see if you recognise the chuntering sound as a airlock.. I changed a rad in the bathroom and this happens on start up and after hot water has been running.. sounds like its trying to clear something then sorts itself of after 5-10mins. No fault code/ Rads okay but hot water sometimes goes off. Thank you
