Central Heating Boiler fan is one of the most important components, its job is to send the gas fumes to outside via a flue. After about 6 years it’s time to upgrade to a newer version which is often NOT done. This video shows you what’s involved.

Great video, can I ask if a fan has a very low ohms reading, below what it should be but still works would this explain the intermittent fault I have been seeing
@mrcombiBedford
@mrcombiBedford 2 года назад
Hi Andy, Thanks for asking, if a part in intermittent I always see how old, anything the moves and over 6 years old just REPLACE with the latest version which is a big step forward, if the fan rotates freely look at the PCB over 6 years old just REPLACE with the latest version. A 230v single speed fan from a top firm will be 20 - 35 Ohms and 9m long flue length, that's the quality we pay for. Average fan 40 -80 Ohms must popular very good for most systems. If less than 20 Ohms ask tech what should it be regards, George

Thanks for this video - I was hoping it would help me identify the droning noise from our combi boiler. It's a shame you didn't include a recording of the noise the pump makes when faulty.
@mrcombiBedford
@mrcombiBedford 2 года назад
Hi Patrick, thanks for the comment, the reason I cannot record sound is because there are lots of them which is impossible for me to recreate. As a rule if a pump or fan makes any noise, replace. What we teach on Wednesdays is to get a long screwdriver and place carefully on the pump venting screw if the sound is "stones rattling" replace, the same on a fan on the body NOT the motor. Hope this answers your question, George Staszak
@MontyVideo969
@MontyVideo969 2 года назад
@@mrcombiBedford If you ever meet a noisy fan problem on your travels why not record it anyway. Build up a database of sounds so people can identify with them. I'm guessing each noise has it's own distinct "signature" if it's gas valve or pump or fan or etc. I used my mobile phone to record the noise our boiler makes but the heating engineer couldn't suggest anything without seeing the problem for himself.

@@MontyVideo969 Hi Patrick,At well over 70 I am off the tools passing on my skills to others with the help of lots of tekkies from factories, any unusual sound means replace
@MontyVideo969
@MontyVideo969 2 года назад
@@mrcombiBedford Hi. In our particular case the annoying droning noise wasn't the boiler at all - it was the (external) Automatic By-pass Valve "chattering".
@mrcombiBedford
@mrcombiBedford 2 года назад
@@MontyVideo969 You found the fault, just a thought if under a combi is the B-Pass 22mm? 15mm could be noisy, if over a metre 15mm will do, silly question not heard of chattering unless TRVs and the arrow on the pump + B/Pass are facing the wrong way. let me know. G Force.

Hi Serg, thanks for asking and subscriber, The over heat stat could be faulty or you have poor circulation, pump age over 6 years replace, basically boiler cannot dissipate the heat quickly enough, is the by-pass OK, water quality? Could need some F2 silencer. regards, George Staszak

Do you think an RD532 is getting to the age where there would be gas bill savings by replacing it, or is it classed a good efficient boiler still?
@mrcombiBedford
@mrcombiBedford 6 месяцев назад
Hi John, thanks for asking, don't know what a RD532 is. All boilers are made for 90% efficiency for 12 years, at 15 goes down to less than 80% expensive and better boilers are available. This is only if it's been installed correctly and checked EVERY year, if not most last 4-6 years and high fuel usage and parts fail sooner. Hope that helps.george Staszak
@johnshaw8013
@johnshaw8013 6 месяцев назад
@mrcombiBedford it was installed before 2006, and I serviced it about 12months ago, loads of shit came out of the combustion chamber, new gaskets on and ignitor etc. Apparently it's basically a Worcester Bosch HE30 but Branded British Gas.

Hi John, Time for a new one, sound like its bunged up from age and not looked after correctly. My advice get the whole system cleaned out twice, replace boiler and fit boiler smart controls. Good luck, George 🤩@@johnshaw8013

just use regin fan oil, it's made for the purpose. wouldn't use wd40 personally. as if will feck it. disagree with always replacing the fan. most atmospheric boiler fans go stiff due to lack of servicing. 60 percent of the time fan just needs bit of regin fan oil. had one customer had a was told fan obsolete then rang me just oiled the fan up and freed it. 4 yrs on boiler is still running with bit of fan oil on every service.
