They used to do advanced metal working before you and us (middle easterns) to discover iron and develop safety measures. The first instructions book was written by them, we just took it from them and added our own contributions.
The workmen moving around in slippers and that too in a foundry is blasphemous. From my experience of factories in India, the workmen don't wear safety boots even when provided giving heat as an excuse. Management need to enforce discipline.
For those screeching about lack of safety shoes, mind telling me where I can find some that will stand up to 2500'F of molten metal being dropped on my feet? All they will give you is an illusion of safety.
