This is incredibly sad! I remember when I was 3-8 my Mom and Gran always went to this mall. I just remember from chilhood memories how busy the mall was. Loads of shops, and restaurants to eat at. As a child I was amazed it was 3 floors one side and two floors on the rest. The mall was very welcoming I thought with the carpet, and indoor waterfalls. In 2003 my family moved to North Carolina, then in 2007 we moved to England in Europe. My Gran still lives in Pittsburgh. In 2013 I came for a visit, and my Gran drove past the mall. I asked her "Want to stop in Century 3"? She said "nope, its not the way you remember it". So she drove me to the mall and showed me just how dead the place was! The multi-story car park was crumbling away, stores shut down, ect... .. . Hardly a single car parked at the mall. I was shocked. As a kid I remember the parking both level being completely full!
I think it would have been better if she had brought you in, just so you could get the chance to grieve the loss of a loved one, like many already have. A significant structure is nothing more than an inanimate object. But people still have memories of how a place once was. And for this, they need to be afforded the opportunity to gain closure after mourning their loss, so they can move on. I honestly feel that the mall should give way to a metal fabricating plant of some sort. It would give it some new life, perhaps even restoring some of the original purpose of the land it was built on. Best wishes, kindness ARK.
italian village is closed now. the fountain is drained. i was happily surprised that the elevator was running! there was actually a carnival scheduled to take place there this week but a mall employee told me it was "postponed until the fall." hmm not sure about that one. maybe, since it would just use the parking lot..
Momo Films it didn’t. The parking lots are all in very poor repair now as well as the roads around the mall. The pkg garage is falling apart and there’s tons of mold over there
The mall closed due to the mall sprinklers failing the city ordered it closed. Very sad to see such a beautiful mall close. Hopefully the sprinklers can be fixed soon so that the mall opens up again.
David Doorley I heard they received a loan from Ross TWP. To finish Northway Mall and now it’s almost all outdoors stupid we live in 4 seasons of weather I want to shop inside
The trick here will be to get one of those pretzel stores back in. If they can just get the pretzel store to come back, all others will follow. Many of these stores were forced to live in festival tents around the city after they left this mall. They just want a warm, dry place to live, with no carpet stains. A working fountain would be nice, too!
@@SurferJoe71 I must admit; the outdoor mall trend is annoying. They're doing it because it's cheaper to maintain the place. However, Western Pennsylvania is a cold, soggy damn mess at least 8 months out of the year. Who wants to spend time in that mess? Not me!
Nobody would want to believe the reason why this mall went so wrong but some do know. Another beautiful architectural community destroyed by certain people.
I usually go there every Thursday and Saturday, to cry in tears. Remember as a kid, the Diary Queen and dentist, years ago. That was the best place to be in the 1994 - 2003 range (since I was born in 1990)
This is how much attention I pay the people talkin, my daughter told me a long time ago and she in Pittsburgh that the mall is closing, I'm in Century Townhomes 20 minutes up the street, I take that back 10 minutes up the street, my bus go inside the mall and turn around the y46, I never paid it no attention, went to the mall February 2018, with my income tax money, walked in the door and was looking stupid, walked over to JCPenney's, and got me some things and they high as hell, and the cashier told me they going to be gone in 5 years, just had to put that out there LOL
