Hey everyone, Mike here with an exciting update on our century home renovation project! We've finally made some significant progress, and I can't wait to show you what we've been up to. The project has been moving slowly, mainly because we've been tied up with other commitments, but we're back on track now.
In this video, I'll give you a tour of the house in its current state. We've gutted almost everything, except for some bricks from the old chimney. The front entrance and main living room are now wide open, giving us a fresh perspective on the space. The kitchen, laundry room, and bathroom areas have been stripped down, revealing just how deteriorated some parts were. I was hoping to salvage some of the old joists, but most were too far gone. Only one joist was still intact, and the rest practically crumbled at a touch. We’ll be reinforcing the floor with new posts and beams to ensure it's solid.
Upstairs, we’ve cleared out what used to be a wall, and there’s some debris left to haul away. The structural integrity is surprisingly good, but we did discover an old construction method where the floor joists of the second floor rest on nothing. To fix this, we’ll be adding new support structures. It's amazing to see how things were built a hundred years ago, and while the house has held up, it's time for some modern updates to make sure it lasts for another century.
