I swear these MLs have an emperor with a harem mentality. They want to keep the punching bag wife and the concubine. When the wife leaves, they aren't as interested in the concubine anymore. A different version of the drama 'Ling Shao's runaway bride' but this one, although still quite good, is inferior to Ling Shao in many ways. The subs are wildly inaccurate in places but you can still follow the gist of the story. The actors in this version are nowhere near as skilled as the other and the plot does jump in this one a little also. But still an okay watch with a slightly more original storyline than most others, but still suffering from an overuse of the typical tropes. Edit. Well there is one scene which has reached a new low in my estimation for the degredation of women. It, involves the evil side chick's parents. The father is 'punishing' the mother after she publicly slanders the FL. And how is he doing it? She's wearing a DOG COLLAR AND CHAIN and he's holding the chain while beating her. WHAT THE HECK???? I am officially outraged. That's new low even for this type of outrageous drama.

Um so, absolutely not! Besides the obvious physical and verbal abuse as well as coercive sexual encounter, he never explained why he wanted to marry the other girl so badly that he would hurt her. Unless I missed something. I didn’t understand love is not a fucking excuse. If he asked me to get back together I’d be like it’s almost adorable that you think that would ever happen ,it’s not even close to the realm of possibility before ripping his heart out of his chest and crushing it with my bare hands in front of his dying eyes. I feel that’s a proportionate response. Also why’d they get married in the first place? I thought it was the parents pushing them together but apparently no. So many lose ends and unexplained things in this drama, I realize it’s low budget but come on.

You know what's wrong with this story, besides the obvious? Narrative disconnect. Why was the ML so sh*tty to his wife in the beginning while singing the praises of some other girl, that 5 years later, he clearly HATES? If he loves his wife so much, why did he force her to get divorced? Why did his feelings do a 180 when she came back with a personality transplant? It don't make sense. 🤔 And did the ML ever truly repent? He too easily just slid back into her life.
