I used the same kit, initially my results were extremely disappointing as by the time I was ready to apply the ceramic coating, both envelopes were slightly open and the ceramic had crystalized on the inside (it was dry) I reached to cerakote customer service and they send me a new kit for free after providing photos of the dry envelopes. Second one was perfect and results are hard to believe, both headlights look brand new. The trick would be making sure spending good time sanding and removing the oxidation layer before applying the ceramic coat. Would recommend 11/10 👌

Bought this kit to do mine, it was the second restoration. I used 3m a couple years ago and they looked awful. This kit is easily superior. It’s worth the time and so satisfying. Yes there is a bit of oxidizing on the inside but they look 99% better and almost new.

ONLY THOSE WHO WANT TO ALTER THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE UNHAPPY 🙁 WITH THEIR RESULTS. My single suggestion is in Emphasizing on STEP 3 to apply ONLY 1 overlapping coat and STOP and let dry min. 1 Hour. More is not Better!

I bought a 3M kit just for comparison purposes and not actually use. That kit has three sandpaper grades, 500, 800, (holy crap) and 3000, versus the Cerakote's 2000 & 3000. Don't want to think what 500 grit would do to that clear surface.
@Mikelp73
@Mikelp73 Год назад
@@eljeffe8806 It will cut too deep. I am a firm believer in the cerakote kit. If you take the time you will be rewared, my headlights are still crystal clear. (There is some discoloration on the inside which I cant do much about)

Good Instructions ordered a whole case of this product for roughly $96 dollars on Amazon Step 1 and Step 3 I only have to provide sandpaper the 2000 grit and The 3000 grit very positive product it’s so much cheaper then heading over to the dealership to get it done $189 cost plus labor unbelievable

Very well presented. Show more close-up photos of the different imperfections in the lenses, like delaminated clearcoat and what the damaged clearcoat should look like after sanding. I had my lenses polished professionally about a year+ ago and only had yellow oxidation. I went straight to the 3000 sandpaper. The next vehicle I do has never been polished and will use both 2000 and 3000 sandpapers.

Well what it should point out is that when you are maintaining the paint on your automobile do not forget to wax or similar the lenses on your car. It just works if you are able to do so from new or like new condition. I like Cerakote very much, I like others wish they would sell the liquids separately and in bottled form and not in form of wipes. I can then use the product as needed rather then open a wipe and most of it is wasted due to a small area. Would be interesting to know if their trim product can be used on the lenses of the car. My guess is that it is the same product?

@attention2detailswchelsea

After applying just let it dry, dont touch. Try to avoid even going over it a second time as it can cause streaking. One wioe, evenly is best. Let air dry and it dries beautifully.

I believe this process requires a rough surface for the clear/coating to bond to similar to how they repaint a cars surface. Sand, tackstrip and spray paint. Id be worried it wouldnt bond properly. But then again Ive never tried it. Worse that could happen is your polish it off, light sand and reapply.

Sadly, this was not even close to the results I have. I saw this on Amazon a few days ago, on sale...lot of great reviews, 75% giving it 5 stars....so I thought I would give this a shot. I have done this using Meguiars in the past a few times with decent results...I know I will never get back to "showcase quality." The first step oxidation wipes from Cerakote was perhaps the most impressive, the wipe turned a yellow-almost a gold color, a good sign removing that oxidation. Sanding..no problem (again, same procedure as Meguiars), kept the lens, sandpaper wet at all times. After step 2, left the "scratchy haze" (again normal.) Now putting on the final step - ceramic wipe. Followed the instructions, 50% overlapping. At first it DID appear this was working very very well. I was finished...went inside to wait 1 hour. I came back out and was - to put it bluntly utterly disgusted at the end result. The headlamps actually appear worse than before I even started this project - completely haze, fine light scratches still show. I have NO idea what happened, I followed all instructions, no water was present when I applied the Ceramic coating (this was warned in the video instructions). I'm not new to this...but new to this product and just disappointed! *I went back to Amazon just to check out the few 1 star reviews on this, those who gave this the low rating had the exact same result as I did. So, eh...I fall into this category now. That's just my personal experience with this. Sure many others will have good, even great results. I WISH this was the case for me. I think I still have some of the Meguiar's stuff left, the "Plastx" liquid (forgot the name), if not I'm going to have to get a new kit and totally redo this tonight, or at some point and just get back to some kind of decent, even OK clarity.

@artsnow8872
@artsnow8872 Год назад
I think the instructions and sandpaper are inadequate. The sandpaper doesn't finish nearly fine enough. Your lens should have a final sanding of, at least, 3000 grit; then polishing compound until they are crystal clear. THEN, apply the ceramic coating. Put lipstick on a beauty, not a pig.

Hi...I bought the Cerakote headlight restorer kit but have not opened it yet. My headlights are just starting to oxidize around the outer edges and not where the light shines through. Would it work OK to just do step 1 only...that is, just use the oxidation remover pads only? I started to try that but somewhere I think it said using the pads (in step 1) would leave the headlight "cloudy looking", so I'm wondering if I should leave well enough alone and just wait until the oxidation is worse and then do all three steps?
@artsnow8872
@artsnow8872 Год назад
Good idea. It depends on how clear you want your headlights, and how much their light may be reduced at night.
@eljeffe8806
@eljeffe8806 Год назад
My lights were done by a profe$$ional a little more than a year ago. The surface damage was not that bad, but the Step 1 pads did get yellow-brown. I went to the 3000 sandpaper only for step two. If the final coating needs a slightly rough surface for bonding then the 3000 would do that without taking too much off the surface.

@ScrappleCheesesteaks
@ScrappleCheesesteaks 2 года назад
I tried this product a few nights ago, Oxidation wipes were great, I admit..only impressive thing about this kit! Skipping to that final step, I know what you mean by "oily," I saw that when I first applied it to my headlamps...which looked great, cleared up the lamp...but thought nothing of this oily liquid...that it would seal into the lamp in the recommended one hour waiting period (Do not wipe, no water, no driving). Came back in one hour to check on this and it was back to the "sanded, totally faded foggy look." I didn't even have to wipe it to revert back to "post step 2" look, it's almost like the Ceramic stuff didn't take...or perhaps evaporated(??). Yesterday, roughly 20 hours after applying, it even looked a but worse. Eh! I'll be RE-doing the headlights again, but not using this brand.

@attention2detailswchelsea
@attention2detailswchelsea 3 года назад
They claim it should last the lifetime of the vehicle. Its a unique formula and is more of a clearcoat/ceramic coating combined as most coatings wouldnt do well if you just applied them over top of wetsanding marks. And you want to remove that clear coat uniformly so you dont have any uneven finish.
