First time I see a cerakote treatment and I really enjoyed watching explaining step by step a delicate process in order to get it right. Now we need to see the video with this barrel in action. Keep them coming.
Having applied high performance coatings for over two decades I want to commend you on your demonstration/explanation throughout the process. WELL DONE.
I guess im randomly asking but does any of you know a tool to get back into an instagram account?? I was dumb forgot the login password. I love any assistance you can offer me.
@Wilson Kingston i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Good video thanks for the tips. I use the cold process you don’t have to mix any catalyst with it and I’ve had real good luck with it but thanks for the information
Holy cow did they let you use the Cerakote factory shop? Some crazy nice expensive equipment in there! Nice job!, your video was very clear and thorough!
I think most people are surprised when they see it done the proper way. Layering Cerakote adds a whole new dimension when done properly. Timing is critical, dry Cerakote won’t adhere properly to itself if the flash time is off.
Couldn’t you have just added the catalyst to the paint without zeroing the scale? The program gave the total weight on the screen. No final wipe down after the blaster?
I guess some kind of tape might do, but for a real solid cover, heat shrink tubing is best for sand and bead blasting as it stays tight and will not unwind. Just pull it off before baking. Almost the same prep for Parkerizing but you let it soak in hot Parkerizing fluid, then rinse in hot water, then soak in hot oil that is allowed to cool. The oil will be impregnated into the Parkerized coating.
Great video, I just use the C series been my experience the baked on just rubs through anyway not ever really on the barrel but the handguard will and if you carry it a lot for hunting ( I do a lot of predator in the winter) it'll rub through around the mag well, trigger opening on your trigger finger side the safety, bolt release and mag release and when it does its bare shiny metal showing through on my factory finished baked Cerakoted rifle that's why I prefer black anodized, cpq'd and just clean with acetone and Cerakote w/ C series air dried and when it does eventually wear through it'll be just the black anodized surface peeking through in some spots and much easier to do Camo patterns with to as well as all my scopes Bipods mags I'm in the coatings industry anyway and applied all kinds different different stuff so I just set it up in my shed hang my parts with electrical wire or hangers from a 2x4 set on ladder rungs between 2 different ladders I'll do solid colors in no time keep up the great videos thx
I appreciate the feedback bNICE and thanks for watching the channel. I wasn’t going to be too particular on the barrel but shiny steel really didn’t match the setup. I don’t normally Cerakote my guns but when I do, it is usually done this way.
H and elite series cerakote does just rub off from carrying the firearm. More than likely there were issues the application itself. I messed up on quite a few projects before I got it down.
Cheers and thanks for sharing, this is very cool and informative. I was worried you didn't have a respirator on there while spraying, seeing that the catalyst was that nasty.
That there was a professional Cerakoting job . I reckon Rick will be sanding his spray painted barrel on his Tikka TAC A1 after watching this video and will be sending to Xring for a permanent Cerakote finish real soon 😀.
Nice video! I just put up a two part series on Cerakoting at home. My equipment is a bit more cruder than yours (and yes, I am jealous lol). I wanted to do Cerakoting gun parts on my channel but already got a warning for an AR video I did (which YT took down) so am keeping my Cerakoting videos to knives and such. One quick question, Cerakote is pretty adamant about using 18:1 ratios on their Elite line, I'm assuming a slightly higher ratio doesn't impact it any? I've used elite series successfully at 18:1 and do a lot in their H series, which gives you a pretty wide latitude in your ratios. Was wondering how much runway you have on either side of 18:1 for the elite series there is. Thanks again for the great video.
I'm sure this has been asked but I would like an entry rifle just to practice with then maybe hunt with( thinking .308) but what would be a decent rifle to get. I've seen review on the remington 700 sps tactical. Get basics down then maybe either upgrade it since it is on the 700 action or just full upgrade. What would you recommend?
So basically I have everything I need to cerakote firearms. I build custom cabinets and do a small amount of metal work for a living. So I have HVLP, and sand blast cabinet, and a spray booth. All I need is a big ass container of simple green and an oven and Im good to go. My neighbors are actually getting ready to through out their old oven. I think Ill be taking it off their hands after seeing this.
Great video! I do this frequently and you did an awesome job of showing and describing what goes into the process. Did you allow the elite to gas out for ten minutes before putting it into the oven or did you go directly in? Thank you again!
Depending on the desired sheen. For more gloss go into the oven immediately. For a matte finish let flash for 15 mins. You can also modify the sheen by adjusting the ratio but Cerakote does recommend 18:1 for Elite series.
nice video. great set up you have. 2 tips, you don't have to zero the scale. just add the catalyst until you get the proper total. And don't tip your gun when you get to the bottom if the stroke. tiny things, but. used to mix paint, and paint cars, if you angle the gun, the paint applies slightly different. could be a problem with touchy colors. not trying to not pick, just passing on experience
Really enjoying your videos, my neighbors here are just boring. What is in your mix for degreasing? I’m using straight acetone and really want to change that. What else is the simple green spiked with? Or is it a secret family recipe? Thanks
I'm wondering if when you blow off the aluminum oxide, does the air need to go through a filter or a straight compressor connection is OK? I'm also pretty sure an in-line oiler like auto and wood shops have are a bad idea.
The system that I was using was clean air through a commercial filter system. I am not a painter but was taught by guys that really know their stuff and this is how they said it should be done. That’s all I know. Thanks for the question and for watching the channel.
I like when people question my friend who does this and Hydrographics about his price then either do it themselves or pay someone else to do it. Within weeks most are back and ask him to fix it. Once he explains why he now will charge an additional fee to do the work they always agree. Though he doesnt charge them that fee in the end the look they give as they bow their head is funny.
how thick is the Ceracoat layer? I use DuraCoat instead and the thickness of it is only .001 so i never have issues with screws not fitting. I had Ceracoated guns in the shop where i had to chase the threads to mount scope bases, I never have that issue with Duracoat.
Great question Smithers Gunworks. It think it all has to do with the applicator. Cerakote measures .001 as well so the thickness should be the same as Duracoat.
Getting new knowledge on "real" cerakoting process. Thanks X-Ring. Great video as always. Btw, just curious do you have any asian blood in the family tree?
That is awesome to see it done. Not related to this video in particular I was wondering if anyone seen/shot the Howa APC in 6.5 or have an opinion on it at all?
Thanks for the response. I am looking at getting into entry level long range shooting now so shopping around and seen there sub MOA guarantees with in my budget so was curious
@@matthewcordova359 depending on your budget, Ruger makes awsome precision rifles. I have one in .223 and it is an absolute tack driver at 60 yards. I'm talking rounds through existing holes accuracy. I have heard a lot of good things of the other calibers they have it in such as, 6.5 creedmore. .308. Prices here in Canada are obviously higher that ANYWHERE ELSE in the world so I paid 1800 plus tax, but it is an awsome gun. Looking forward to stretching g it out to further distances soon.
it's always good to have an inline desiccant filter also to remove latent moisture from the product spray. very inexpensive, and noticable results sometimes (especially if using a cheap small compressor)
The oven is worth more than all of that guy at Branson Cerakote. A trick I leaned with taping off areas? Wrap the tape sticky side out so it doesn't stick to the part.
Nice Job ! 🎨 If you wanted to camo it , would you do multi colors at the same time or in layers ??? Would it be one bake time or multi bakes ??? Can it be applied with a sponge ?... LOL😂
Good question Jerry. Many people do Camo incorrectly. Dried Cerakote does not adhere well to itself. It’s all about timing and applying stencils before the base colors and those above have fully cured. If done incorrectly the top layers can flake prematurely.
You have a nice paint booth and setup with the sandblasting and painting. I'm guessing you paint your own vehicles and other stuff etc. Great video. I havent painted my rifles yet but I have painted and blasted industrial and vehicles, well not blasting vehicles more like sanding well you understand.
