I bought one of these off Amazon. They’re not as efficient as the light emitting ones. The surface of the bulb gets extremely hot, like dangerously hot but even then it doesn’t cast out the heat as well as the lit ones. Hope this helps anyone reading this. Edit: I took out the bulb and set it on a hand towel and it left burn marks on it. It also takes quite awhile for the bulb to cool down, at least 20 minutes.

Okay now that has reached the point of being dangerous. I'd be scared to install in my house, for fear of a fire starting. 400 degrees is insane.

I honestly can't believe. I wanted to buy one of these to use with my preheater, figured I could simply lower some gooseneck lamp to radiate heat directly to some massive component, such as heatsinks, big plugs, gpus etc, but I thought they radiate 200C tops. Poor lizards :D

Don't do this without reading this! Most light socket appliances are rated to 60-80 watts. If you screw in a 150w heater like this you are going to cause issues. I don't have an opinion on these per se, I'm looking just to give my chickens some heat without the light. There's nothing like a rooster crowing at night during the winter.
@SciaticaDrums

@Aplomado Falconer We wound up using a simple incandescent heat bulb like you would get at any Agway. The chickens did fine over the winter with it.

That gets pretty hot. A normal 150W incandescent operates around 400F and a 250W operates at 500F while a 300W tubular halogen quickly reached at 1,000F, and a 500 watt tubular halogen operates at 1,200F.

Hi Im going to set an exo terra ceramic heater in my terrarium for my gecko. I dont know which one to choose. The 150w or the 250w. The height of my terrarium is 30cm. Also Im going to install a thermostat. Since here in spain is very cold in winter I think Im going to choose the 250w lamp. Do you think is to much even though Im using a thermostat? Or if I use a thermostat when it gets very hot it will trun off and it will be ok?

How hot does a red heat lamp get up to?
@benreber2277
@benreber2277 10 месяцев назад
I saw mine around 350 for red lamp and hit 800 on my laser thermometer. Some might not be 100% accurate due to laser not operating good on reflective surfaces but yes it was very hot. I want to run my own test in two different brooders one with red and other with ceramic to see the ground temp.

How is this 100W ceramic bulb hotter than a regular 1,000W HPS bulb? That barely reaches past 650 degrees on average.
@wienerwoods
@wienerwoods Год назад
The ceramic emmiter is emitting energy only in the far infared with those watts - narrow specturm. 1,000w HPS generates mostly narrow spectrum engery too, but it's visible light (sodium vapor emmision band) rather than far infared. Still really surprising how HOT those ceramic emmiters get. Far infared doesn't travel nearly as far as visible or near infared energy. It's quickly attenuated / absorbed by the surrounding environment / air.
@garlicandchilipreppers8533
@garlicandchilipreppers8533 Год назад
@@wienerwoods Somebody I can ask who might know the answer. I need to heat a chamber of 160 litres at a constant temp of 75 degrees Celsius. If I used these as a heat source in a constant contained airflow, how many would I need? The chamber is cooling at a rate of 5 degrees in 6.5 minutes. At the moment am using a 2000watt element that is cycling 10 minutes per hour so 330w and have a 6 degree fluctuation. I am thinking that 2 x 150 continuosly would be fine.
@wienerwoods
@wienerwoods Год назад
@@garlicandchilipreppers8533 You say you have a 6 degree fluctuation, but you don't say what your target fluctuation limit is. That's the metric you need to define. Then, It's a matter of putting energy /heat into the system in smooth pulses that are ramped in such a way as to offset cooling / entropy. The problem with using point source / concentrated / focused emitters is that they, uh, concentrate the heat, meaning uneven distribution and greater fluctuation. They also ramp up and down slowly. You need to figure out a way to diffuse the heat these emitters generate if you want smooth temeperature curves inside the chamber. You also need to quantify the heating and cooling ramps (time profiles) of the elements themselves. Then it's a matter of coupling them to a thermostat that can cycle them on and off in a way that responds to the ambient temperature fast enough to maintain the desired thermal envelope. Variable voltage output might help to speed up or slow down / modulate the heat output, but I'm not a mechanical or electrical engineer - I'm just a run of the mill polymath who knows a little bit about everything, and the micro-specifics about very little... Good luck!

Can this be used in a bathroom light fixture..like 3 sockets above a mirror...2 as lights, and one, this heater?
@TrumpDoesntWipe
@TrumpDoesntWipe 2 года назад
Light fixtures carry a maximum wattage rating (Usually a sticker on the fixture) and if bulbs are installed that exceed this rating, there is the potential for overheating the fixture, especially something like these heat lamps. Always check the wattage of the fixture and the bulb that you're installing.
@lesliecogan641
@lesliecogan641 2 года назад
@@TrumpDoesntWipe thanks Chad. Yeah, don't want to cause a problem.. Now I'm looking at a 350W plug in heater, that plugs right into the socket like a night light. The problem with that it appears, is you can't plug them into a GFI outlet like bathrooms have. Ugh. I don't see why not. I can plug a space heater into it, which has a cord, and it'll run up to the 1500 watts that's the max of the heater. Maybe you have some insight. If not, thanks anyway 😊
@TrumpDoesntWipe
@TrumpDoesntWipe 2 года назад
@@lesliecogan641 If you can plug something into a standard outlet, you can plug it into a gfci. In fact, a gfci is safer than a standard receptical because they'll trip if there's any issues with the appliance. I would just remember to shut the space heater off when not in use so they don't fall over and catch something on fire when you're not looking. This reason can make them kind of dangerous.
