Hello, thanks for checking out my video. This is a quick tutorial to demonstrate how I slip cast for my ceramics, in this example I'll show you how to prepare your moulds, the slip casting, and give some example timings to use. Instead of masking tape you should use ratchet straps they work great and super cheap

Hi. I love all of your videos. Weird question, if I use a Porcelain Slip Mix (like you did) can I carve/shape/add details etc. e.g. adding a handle to a mug afterwards with clay? Or do I have to use the same material used as the slip? I’m a little confused and would appreciate any advice.

Hi Amy. Make sure the slip and clay are the same product. For example I have special porcelain slip and special porcelain clay and then yes you can carve, add detail and a handle. 😁

What did you use when you made the mold to top the plaster sticking from each other? I think fairly liquid might work as the Americans use a oil based soap so it’s same thing

Hi. Yes you can, make sure the clay is leather hard and not at greenware stage. If you want to add more clay make sure to use the same clay body.

No.the plaster draws the moisture from the slip and makes it set.

The symbol on the bucket means: Serious health hazard (Symbol: health hazard). You probably shouldnt hover over it breathing it in

Can I use my own slip from my leftover clay? Or should it absolutely be porcelain casting slip?

You need to make sure the clay you are using is suitable for turning into slip ask your clay supplier. Earthenware, Stoneware, Porcelain are all good.

Yes you can, leave it to soak, add a defoculent and filter it out before use.

Hi. I've sent a link to get you started. I use porcelain casting slip. The mold is made from plaster and yes you can prepare the mold at home, please wear a mask.

😂 Masking tape and belt are NOT good ideas ! Use cup up inner tubes. The two part moulds will form their own seal.
