Ceratosaurus - The Most Underrated Jurassic Carnivore Ever

North America during the Late Jurassic, could be a very harsh place. Dry seasons crippled the lands, and drove dinosaurs mad. Only the mightiest survived, which included numerous giant sauropods and theropods. However, it wasn't only size that mattered, as the Ceratosaurus proved. This was a middle sized theropod that thrived in the badlands of the Jurassic, proving that, "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, its the size of the fight in the dog".

@@TheDarkCeratosaurus If you don't think Ceratosaurus was treated like trash in JFC, you should probably re-watch the Ceratosaurus vs Allosaurus episode seeing as they straight up call it stupid. Even though brain scans at the time had shown that it was of average intelligence like the other Theropod dinosaurs of the time. In fact every time the Ceratosaurus had screen time in JFC it was mocked, insulted and used as a punching bag for the Allosaurus. That being said I do agree that Ceratosaurus doesn't receives poor treatment in media (JFC not withstanding), it is however mostly sidelined due to Allosaurus being more popular which is unfortunate.

Underrated indeed. According to new studies, Ceratosaurus could potentially reach lengths of 9m, surpassing even the average adult Allosaurus (8.5m). A recent study by Greg. C. Agyan (conducted in 2021 for the University of Utah) reported findings of teeth belonging to a ceratosaurus whose dimensions lead to an estimate of individual size between 8.35m and 8.95m. Also, this species lived for millions of years and animal size can vary quite a lot in such lengthy periods, so i wouldn't be surprised if a skeleton over 9m long is unearthed someday.

I think a lotta ppl dont realize just how old the cera actually is. It is an EARLY jurassic dino. It is very likely that cera or a close relative was the progenitor to Tyrannosaurus, and even perhaps most therapods

abelisaurs actually

Actually Ceratosaurus are more related to Abelisaurids and Noasaurids, probably, Ceratosaurus may have been their ancestor.

Cerato isn’t underrated, more fairly rated, but I’ve seen a lot of people say it isn’t a good creature but cerato is pretty strong for its relatively small size.

I think the animal is pretty perfectly designed to combat, kill, and maneuver large crocodilians. The horns could be used to stab and flip over the heavy bodies and also provide some defense from the jaws of said crocodiles.

Didn't the video itself say the horns weren't built for combat at all and were better as display features? I don't doubt it could have outright headbutted prey, but relying on the horn is incongruous with what we know about Ceratosaurus.

To be fair, Ceratosaurus is one of the few larger theropods that were always portrayed as fast and agile. Palaeontologist never questioned that it was an active hunter.

Maybe the ceratosaurs evolved into the abelisaurs , they have the small arms and four fingers the same.
@JurassicReptile
@JurassicReptile Год назад
that's not a maybe that is 100% true. Ceratosaurus still had strong arms but the abelisaurs decided they were not needed, ceratosaurus' horns were passed from it on to many abelisaurs too like carnotaurus and majungasaurus. Ceratosauria is a massive group that might be one of the longest lasting lineages of dinosaurs.

Ceratosauridae didn't evolve into Abelisauroidea but yeah they're pretty close relatives.
