One of my favorites. Space cowboy villain with the name TEX “HEX” with sorcery. These series aired in Canada back in 1987. My favorite character. So much depth. The other episode called, “NO TEX NO HEX” is another episode that shows his human side.

I first learned about Tex Hex's origins as part of the 'Ghostbusters' rouges gallery from Moviebob, and I often wondered how he would've been depicted in that series. Probably in A more comedic fashion than the tragic outlaw villain we eventually got. He's definitely underrated as far as 80's cartoon villains go with his striking appearance, and wonderfully evil voice provided by Charlie Adler. (For whom this was the only Filmation cartoon he's ever worked on.)
@cerealgeekTV
@cerealgeekTV Год назад
In Filmation's Ghostbusters, Tex Hex, like all of the villains on that show, would've been a comedic villain...no edge...no real threat...

Well done & I agree. He doesn't get the credit he deserves for being as big a baddie as he was. I'd say he was probably one of the more serious villains in Filmation with how ruthless he was & his abilities to stalemate & overpower BraveStarr & his allies as often as he did. Definitely one of my favorites
@cerealgeekTV
@cerealgeekTV Год назад
Even though Skeletor was a demon from another dimension, Tex Hex (with the presence and power of Stampede) always felt more connected to his demonic powers than the Lord of Destruction! :)
@Wacky_Wonders
@Wacky_Wonders Год назад
@@cerealgeekTV I think that coming 2 years after Skeletor allowed him to be darker. Parental TV rules seem to have laxed as the years went on & villains were finally allowed to be actual villains, not just laughable bunglers causing mischief & being mildly annoying, though rarely dangerous. Just look at the difference between Filmation Skeletor vs MYP Skeletor. He was an outright dangerous villain, throwing his own brother off a cliff in the first two episodes! If Filmation Skeletor had come out a few years later than he did, he'd have probably been closer to his minicomic version & a great threat for some awesome battles between him & He-Man

BraveStarr shows how FAR Filmation had come with regards to the level of detail - The line art had a real weight to it...it wasn't always clean...you could really feel the artistry that had gone into each and every frame - I think it's a large part of why the animated movie is one of my favorite things that Filmation ever produced! :)

When you mentioned Tex Hex being Stampede's puppet, my mind went straight to Puppetino from Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night. Not so much for his own turning-people-into-puppets routine, but more for (spoiler!) his own final fate at the Emperor's hands (😏) and the question I've asked myself about that scene for years: was he changing him--or changing him _back_? (And yes, that is a reference to "Quality of Mercy" from the 90's Outer Limits. 😊)

Charlie Adler was also in transformers where he made his name. Tex hex def had great eps mentioned he was a good villain. However due to him being on in early afternoon where I lived he didn’t get the proper airtime. Also the fact that by then the big toon villains were out already as it was already the latter 80s. U had starscream hordak skeletor Mummra etc who had made the names by then.

Fantastic video as always James. Truth be told, I always liked Tex Hex's backstory so much, that in my head I decided that this is what was planned for Keldors backstory after I've heard that one rumor that BraveStar took the spot of what was supposed to be a Powers of Grayskull. Back then, when it was first revealed online that Skeletor was really supposed to be Keldor I just came up with this convoluted fanboy nonsense. I don't feel guilty about it. Still a great character in a great cartoon in it's own right.
@cerealgeekTV
@cerealgeekTV Год назад
Those visuals in which Stampede resurrects Tex Hex and transforms him, as a possible Keldor/Skeletor moment, would've been worth it - Even though I cannot stand the entire Keldor/Skeletor idea - I like my Lord of Destruction to be simply a demon from another dimension...not an Eternian citizen or family relation! :)

@@cerealgeekTV I felt the same as you mate. But I grew to accept it because that entire concept as a package deal with the to me most interesting batch of minicomics across the entire run aka the Bruce Timm built up for Eternia's past. It's not even that I think it would have been the best stories in the series ever, but the build up was amazing and got me very interested. This get's only amplyfied to me since I''ve always been a sucker for good origin/ancient history stories. So while I didn't like Keldor to be Skeletor the feelings of "but this is interesting, I need to know more" was much stronger which is why I had an easier time accepting it. Funny thing is, that before the 2002 reboot, I actually wrote a story concept on how all those things with Skeletor coming from Infinitia, him being an apprentice of Hordak and him being Keldor who was also in Preternia could make something of sense. But nope, then the fantastic cartoon came along and I had to adjust it. And then the Netflix He-Man cgi series came out where Keldor suddenly was a regular human (as I originally envisioned) and I had to throw things over again.^^ I realize by now that I will never write the story but the concept still stands strong within my head with minor adjustments.^^

It would be interesting to see a story (though that could have ended the series) where Tex hex would wind up asking Bravestarr for help to free him from Stampede's control.
