Cervelo's Caledonia might just be the perfect practical performance bike for epic adventures or daily driver duty. Find out how it combines Porsche speed with pick up truck versatility and toughness by joining me on a Big Stupid Ride through Roman history.
Thanks to Pon for supporting this video as part of their 'Big Stupid Ride' series and for supplying the bike. Cheers to Reserve, SRAM and Panaracer for the upgrade kit and Giro Cycling UK, Peaty’s Products, Crud XL Fenders, Torq Nutrition and Hebtroco for supporting the channel. Massive thanks as always to my Patreon supporters for their monthly pledges too. Picked up a Caledonia after watching this. Put 32mm on and such a fast but smooth ride. Must stop watching your videos as got a Hello Dave a few years back after your review and both have been excellent.

Nice, you've got stronger legs than me though, I went with a 42 up front!

It's Caledonia 5. Would love to hear your opinions on their lower end Caledonia model. Will be getting my Caledonia soon so I'm excited for it. Thanks for this video. The production quality is top notch. And look at those view amazing views!

I’ll try and get on the standard Caledonia ASAP but from previous Cervelo experience the ride quality is still awesome, they just weigh a fraction more

I got my Oasis Black Cervélo Caledonia 5 in the lowest spec with a SRAM Rival eTap AXS Groupset & DT Swiss E1800 Spline. It was never light nor aero (which makes the non-5 Caledonia a better option) & it wasn't as great as an Aspero. However, it's a comfortable endurance bike. But, if one wanted an all-rounder race bike, the new 2022/2023 Soloist would be a better option. If you did the occasional gravel country roads/back roads or ride daily without caring about speed or lap times, this is the bike for you. But the heavy 1.9-2kg DT Swiss E1800 Spline Wheelset definitely has to go (even the DT Swiss R470 would've been a better option). Reserve should make a shallow, light, aluminium/carbon wheelset for the lower end Rival/105 options.

@nightfly is right on. They're the new colour GravelKing SS, just wanted to vejazzle the bike a bit as it was a bit monochrome otherwise. They felt great at 50psi and rolled better than I expected too.

So how do you really feel about the Caledonia 5. :) Any experience with the basic Caledonia? Thinking of buying standard model with Iltegra Di2 and adding lightweight carbon wheels and carbon seatpost and handlebars from another bike. Would lighten it up a lot.
@GuyKesTV
@GuyKesTV Год назад
I've not ridden the base Caledonia but I've ridden the basic model in other Cervelo bikes and it's very hard to tell any difference at all besides weight so your idea of upgrading the standard bike is a very good one.

I have the caledonia with hunt 40 wheels, 28mm vitoria corsa's. A great all day bike but having serious stability issues on downhill decents. Keen to hear if anyone else is having the same issue

Have you changed the stem at all? The 54cm I purchased came with a 100mm and it was super stable. I tried sizing down to a 90mm stem and it was surprisingly twitchy. I usually can switch down 10mm on the stem and not feel any difference in handling but the Caledonia I felt it right away. Thankfully a 100mm stem is what I need, if not a 110, so it was only a little experiment, but i was shocked how difference the handling was between 100 and 90. I also started w/ 28 mm tires and switched to 32mm because why not? And that also added a great deal of stability. It’s honestly on the border of being too stable.

@blakegboi1347 yep changed to a 90mm but ended back with the origianl stem. I ended up contacting Hunt who sent a new front wheel out, runs mint now. There must have been a carbon rim issue with the first wheel as it looked fine but just handled like garbage

Hi, for an Ironman I hesitate a lot between Van Rysel EDR 920 Ultegra and a Cervelo Caledonia 105. Would you have a preference for one of the two bikes? The course is slightly mountainous (1600m d+).

Guy, if you had to pick one bike to do fun evening spins and the odd 100km through the countryside, would you buy this or the Vielo R+1 that you liked? I'm eyeing both.
@GuyKesTV
@GuyKesTV Год назад
You wouldn’t go wrong with either but I’d probably go R+1 or even V+1 in case you fancy some gravel on those evening spins
