Robert Provenzano, known professionally as CES, is a New York-based graffiti writer and artist who was a pioneer in developing the writing style commonly known as “wildstyle”. CES pairs his iconic graffiti career with his New York Baseball roots as part of the eclectic Topps Project70® roster. Topps spent the day with CES at his Bronx studio in Fall 2021 to learn all about his creative origins and process.
“This was like getting called up to the Major Leagues, right? This is Americana, this is everything you grew up with. I stuck with what I believed in, and here come the things from my childhood coming back, welcoming me in. That’s how I looked at it.”
Check out the entire interview above to hear CES discuss his first night out writing graffiti, his reaction to getting the call from Topps, and why he chose to create a 1954 Mickey Mantle card as part of his Project70® set.
Topps Project70® celebrates 70 years of Topps baseball cards by pushing boundaries while paying homage to our heritage. Founded in 1938 as a chewing gum company, Topps released their first baseball card set in 1951. Now seven decades later, artists and creatives around the globe are revisiting and reimagining 70 years of iconic baseball card designs, each selecting their own MLB players and Topps designs to craft a unique story. Look for cards daily on Topps.com by some of the greatest creatives across the globe, including Action Bronson, Alex Pardee, Ben Baller, Bobby Hundreds, Brittney Palmer, Distortedd, DJ Skee, Don C, Futura, Gregory Siff, Mister Cartoon, New York Nico, Ron English, Snoop Dogg, and more!

Great artist. Is that a deliberate Easter egg? Mantle card was missing 1954 not 1956

Not sure what Ces' was thinking putting Ohtani as Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee was Chinese, Ohtani is Japanese, they have absolutely nothing in common. If any Japanese player was Bruce Lee of baseball it was Ichiro.
