TRANSCRIPT: criminologyweb.com/cesare-lom...
In this video, I provide a summary of Cesare Lombroso’s theory of crime. Lombroso, who has been called the father of modern criminology, developed his theory of atavism to explain crime. In Lombroso’s theory of the born criminal, the atavistic form of humans is related to their criminal behavior. Lombroso and his criminal man theory have been important in positivist theory and in the Italian School of Positivist Criminology. For those interested, there is now a museum that shows his work: check out “Cesare Lombroso’s Museum of Criminal Anthropology” in Turin, Italy for more information.
This short overview can function as a brief documentary on or biography of Cesare Lombroso and his criminology or biological theory. This video is in English.

Fun fact Lambroso compared creative people to criminals saying they both share similar traits as both were manifestations of extreme charecteristics. He came of the idea of associating deviants with genius.
@Davididan1
@Davididan1 7 месяцев назад
First, the cases that Lombroso focused on in his studies and experiments did not have many owners and therefore cannot be relied on as a general rule secondly he focused too much and overemphasized the organic aspect as a factor of criminal behavior while neglecting the influence of other factors material cultural environmental and social thank you for your efforts cordial salutations

@maryappleseed4869
@maryappleseed4869 Год назад
The research carried out by Lombroso lacked the rigor we now expect from scientific studies. He did not use a control group against which to compare his participants. Lombroso argued that the physical characteristics he identified were innate but this might not have been the case, they might have been influenced by environmental factors such as poor nutrition in childhood. This explanation is socially sensitive; some of the features described by Lombroso are linked to skin color and other traits are associated with the concept of race, so it has been accused of scientific racism. Goring (1913) carried out a study comparing over 2000 London convicts with a control group. He failed to replicate Lombroso’s findings. This theory has also been used to support eugenics. Eugenics is a philosophy arguing that those who are born with genetic advantages should be allowed to breed for the good of society but those who are born with genetic disadvantages should be eliminated to improve the genetic quality of the human population.

I don't think criminality has anything to do with form. He might be a beautiful person, but he's actually a very dangerous criminal. I think that this theory is not correct because crime is a carefully planned and focused thing because the criminal is measured on intelligence, the smarter he is, the less likely he is to be caught, because the criminal is not a sick person who does not realize all of those things but rather someone who knows how to do and plans before doing anything.__ Very sly 🤔😮🧐

Rightly pointed out, this theory is not correct because the research sample lombroso collected were limited within the prisoner, where unfortunately or coincidentally these dead prisoners had those defect. The importance of lombroso in criminology is not about this theory on atavistic characters, but his initiation on scientific study on criminology. His research was biased cannot be taken as reliable source of information.

I think that Lombroso’s theory could extend to genetic deformities that could cause the creation of a criminal. Everyone has had a tendency to do something bad, but those born with a smaller frontal lobe might not be able to control that impulse as much as someone else. In the big picture he was wrong, but I think he definitely was on the right track.
