Heard this for the first time in Santiago, Cape Verde! She speaks directly to my soul… did not understand a word, didn’t try to translate, nor did I ask anyone its meaning. It’s just the language of the soul
@@taniadelacombe4476
Rest in peace, Black Queen! Thank you for coming to my city St.-Petersburg some ten years ago. I don't understand Portugese dialect of your songs but I still remember tears of love in the eyes of hundreds. My warm love from cold Russia.
See what Love in its many faces means and does to us.We tasted it's beauty ,it's intensity,Saudade' is the memory of the time we touched it and we long. The Earth has got Saudade it's missing it's animals fish birds and gardens.
I am Nicaraguan, listening from France where I live. Sodade takes me to my homeland whenever I feel the need. It is about a promise, a wish so simply... To go back to your homeland and spread joy, sharing, happiness and prosperity. And most of all, democracy. Intouchable constitutional rights and preserve human rights. Sorry, music and politics always go hand to hand.
This music talk abaut ,the portuguese word Saudade in creolo Sodad, saudade means ,missing someone who left the country,i lived 11 years in Cape Verde, and i missed so much....thats is Saudade.
I met her in 2010 in Sao vincente. She was in her house smoking, she was so humble, she allowed me to take pictures with her Grammy Awards...i was blessed! Unfortunately she passed away a year later.RIP sweet Cesaria❤
It’s about the people of Cape Verde they left their hometown and went to work in São Tomé (Portuguese colonies) knowing they might never came back home. So they got home sick (sodade)

For me, the years before I became so sick; before I ended up in a wheelchair. The walks through the woods, by the river, through parks, around town. The strides I carelessly made; the trust I had my body.
A beautiful person, a wonderful singer whose songs live on. I was in Dakar when she passed, and the Cap Verde community clustered around Chez Loutchka restaurant and paid tribute to her as her music filled the streets. It was deeply moving. Sodade!!!
I love you lady ! I'm north African living in Canada.. this song got me in tears every time i hear it.. makes think about my childhood, my little sister and my parents.. Africa is great.. love you all ✌
I heard this song back in 1994 when I was traveling in Brazil and fell in love with her and her music. Then she became so popular around the world and had a show in Tel Aviv, where the radio played nonstop her music.
Capo Verde: a bounch of little island in the middle of the ocean. I have been there... deep and multicultural roots, sea all around you as far as the eye can seee, severe and wonderful land, colorful nature, amazing music and vibes, really nice and friendly people: forever in my heart.
I cannot understand a word but this music goes straight to the heart. The language of music is truly international and this lady has mastered the art. What an angelic voice, forever in our hearts rest in peace queen.
Yahya Oa , music itself is a universal language :) Here is the lyrics with English translation , and you can also read the description section in my video about this song to understand the context ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6a39IZt88YY.html
Thank you for sharing, It made me reflect on my actions, this was a good reminder to call some family members I haven't spoken to in a while since the start of the pandemic just because I have been a lazy bear.
I don't understand a lot, but this song is giving me an intensive and beautiful melancholy, 'cause of the wonderful voice in combination with the rhythmic music 🥲❤️
music is a universal language, you do not need understand the meaning, the meaning will translate itself once the music fuses with ur innersoul!!! Let ur music live on Evora, u have inspired many of us and ur music has given us hope to keep moving on!!
Just in case you're wondering, she talks about missing a place called São Nicolau, and also, it seems that she has someone who used to write letters to her but no longer does.
I completely agree but if you know the meaning you will love it even more . Here is the lyrics with English translation, and you can also read the description section in my video about this song to understand the context ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6a39IZt88YY.html

I've never understood the language, but I bought a lot of Mama Cesaria's music over the years. I was even lucky to attend a live concert of hers in London. The power of great music, and a great unique voice. RIP.

I am listening Cesaria still in 2020 even I am in my 67th..., she is wonderful, Saudade is the equivalent in Romanian Language (my mother language) for the word DOR which means to longing hard for someone, feel he is missing you deeply...
Hey Iolanda. I hope you're doing well. I got so interested in comment because my native language is Brazilian Portuguese, so we are basically in the same family as Romanian. And DOR in Portuguese means PAIN. That couldn't be more true. Saudade sometimes hits so hard it becomes painful, physically.
10 years I've been listening to this song. Each time I do, it's like the first time. Chills and emotions. Cesaria Evora's voice is simply unique and the portuguese is so sensual. Sodade, always Sodade...
+Transient Fukitsu actually is not the majority.....EVERYBODY speaks crioulo....and there's not much variation, it varies just like brazilian portuguese and portugal portuguese, america english and great britain.............we all speak one language to each other and it's not portuguese it's crioulo...........but you're right, there's no rules established!!
Goddam see i knew it made me feel homesick but I don’t understand the language. We can say for sure she clearly accomplished her goal and sent the message successfully
Linda musica... grande cantora caboverdiana.
