In this video we met with Ross, the proud owner of a 1981 Cessna 182R that he has modified for trips across oceans. Featuring five fuel tanks that hold up to 260 gallons at a time and an upgraded engine, this airplane carried him to over 30 countries and 84,000 miles on his last big adventure. Not just an airplane for shorter trips, this 182 proves that it is capable of true cross country and worldwide flight. Check out more of his endeavors at katamarino.com.

I've followed the Sailing Doodles videos for quite some time. I'm also a former Army fixed wing pilot, during which time I obtained an Airman's Certificate for Airplane, Single and Multiengine Land, Instrument rating. The Sailing Doodles skipper (Bobby) recently welcomed aboard a new crew member to his sailing vessel, a lovely lady named Dakota. Both she and Bobby are both certificated pilots with more advanced ratings than I have. Bobby has said he wanted Dakota to take the lead in promoting Flying Doodles to promote his RU-vid videos in various aspects of flying. As a 78 year old no-longer-flying pilot, I watch many flying videos on RU-vid for my personal interests. Lo and behold I see the lovely Dakota in this video. I was pleasantly surprised to recognize her! Dakota is a multifaceted woman, obviously smart as hell and able to speak "aviation" like a pro! Good to see you, Dakota! Flying with a pilot that has flown a C-182 around the world made for a terrific interview! Keep up the good work!

I still think out of all the aircraft I’ve flown the 182Q I have 60hrs in was my favourite, they’re such a reliable and comfortable aircraft. Also I love how he said, “not perfect but I’ll take it” after his landing when the front tyre couldn’t have touched down any closer to the centre of the centreline haha. Great video guys !!

Bobby.....I liked this channel before....but Dakota is a significant upgrade! She is in her element in an airplane. Knowledgeable, confident and easy on the eyes and ears. I hope you make sure she stays current and can progress towards a flying career in addition to being a regular on all your channels!

I knew two couples who were 4 doctors. They planned a trip to Europe. They shipped the clothes to use to Europe a month before. They had extra tanks added to the plane. They were able to fly all over Europe for a month. They shipped everything back afterwards and reversed the flight over. I was able to hear about it on my visit with them.

Interesting plane, pilot and story Dakota, nice start. I think the video would be improved if you had introduced the pilot and done the first part more as an interview than a monologue. Once you all were in the air you did a great job with your questions and overall conversational style. Nice start to your ‘solo’ flying. 🛫

Very interesting vlog. Some very good questions from Dakots. I bet he got some looks in some of the FOB's he landed at. He's a very intellectual guy. That would be a haul flying 17 hrs on one leg in a 182. How did he talk to contollers from other countries? Other countries have bilingual controllers? I would think that would be a challenge. I'm an A&P and want to get my pilots license, and found this vlog so awesome! Thanks Dakota

In the 70s , it was common to fly a new light plane to Australia from the US factory. That was the cheapest method , rather than taking the wings off and into a container. Au new plane customer are used to seeing their new bird already broken in for them with 100+ hours on the Hobbs meter. The longest leg were from LAX to Hawaii, (about 2100 KT miles) and can take over 14 hours in a 172 or Mooney, they tend to travel in groups of 3, 4 planes for safety. Seats were removed ( sent by Qantas) and replaced with a big gas tank, Turtle Pack Au still make rubber fuel bladders. When the plane land in AU, the pilots were handed a return Qantas ticket to get back to the US. This is not done now because av gas is not even available in many places at any price, and like Ross, they will have to preposition fuel, which is a pain. My guess is you need at least 2500 kt miles of fuel for you are flying against the prevailing winds. At least icing is not a problem. With GPS, navigation is now a joke. Rather than guessing, like some other aviator in the past, I now know Howland Island position down to within 10 ft. But if I have to do the crossing, I prefer to use something that burn Jet A, which is universally available, and some of those single engine birds like the Epic do not need to carry as much extra fuel.

Thank you so much for the video ! So informative ! At 14:50 you speak of "that what gets people" regarding the weather. Did you know that 80% of general aviation fatal crashes are in vfr conditions ? That's from Dan Gryder's Sunday, 11-12-23 video and earlier ones too. I look forward to more watching your videos. Thanks again so much.

I did the Pponk upgrade on a 1976 182p. Funniest Idiocracy was demonstrating a power on stall. The plane just wants to ride the prop. Had a heck of a time getting it to even buffer. Found that if I held yoke back about 75% and then yanked the last 25% it would finally buffer and stall so I could pass my biannual. I miss that plane!

That is incredible. I am checked out in a C150, C172, and C182. Unfortunately I have not flown since 2007. Health issues are prohibitive.
