You are correct that the receptacle on the right is typically a 20 amp 120 volt branch circuit. The 30 ampere receptacle in the middle is also a 120 volt branch circuit. The 50 ampere receptacle is a part of a 50 amp 130/240 volt branch circuit. When you plug the adapter into the 30 and the 20 amp receptacles, you have 50 amps at 120 volts. So, it is half of the power available at the 50 ampere receptacle. 20 amps @120 volts is 2400 watts 30 amps @120 volts is 3600 watts Combined 20 and 30 @120 volts is 6000 watts 50 amps at 240 volts is 12,000 watts Hope this helps. Best wishes, Kevin

I was just going to say the same stuff. That the 20amp + 30amp you don’t get 50 amp in the plug. One side has 30amp and the other side only has 20amp. The 50 amp line gives you 50amps each on the two sides of the plug.

Hi Kevin! I liked your video, I'm a total beginner I have a van but I have not even begun to really convert but I want to try out a site that has electrical hook-up. What is your recommendation for a space heater because they cook electrical lines up are not recommended to use anyway.

Im new to the Rv Living. Is it safe to just turn off the 30 amp breaker and turn it back on? Or do i have to turn it off, unplug it, plug it back in and turn it on?
@campfirerver5678
@campfirerver5678 5 месяцев назад
I am unsure why you want to turn off the 30-amp breaker are you having issues, normally you can turn it off and on without unplugging understand I am an RVer not an electrician.

I have a question about starting the engine while hooked up to the pedestal. Is it ok to try and start the engine while connected? I ask because the batteries have died/drained and I am plugged in now trying/hoping they charge, but I'm a little worried about trying to start the ignition while plugged in.

@@campfirerver5678 I needed to buy new batteries for the chassis and house as I just purchased the motorhome used(private sale). But, I still can't get any straight answers about important procedures which are not well discussed in the manuals. All of the forums have people contradicting each other or have completely different systems. I have just been killing the breakers before I plug in and make sure there's no load when starting the generator. I imagine the transfer switch will take care of the rest. I hope.
@campfirerver5678
@campfirerver5678 5 месяцев назад
Ok so you can start the generator while plugged in the transfer switch will not kick in until the generator is up to RPM to take the load, you may have noticed that the micro display does not come on immediately but after the generator has run for a while. Now while plugged into shore power your batteries should charge there is usually a converter, takes 120 V converts to 12V, built into your rig I say usually since you have a used unit sometimes you don't know what a previous owner did, there is not a consistent place that they install these you may have to dig a round to find it and check that none of the fuses have blown if you can use a meter you can see if a 12v charge is coming out. With all trouble shooting make sure you take safety first. @@Jurornumber5

@@campfirerver5678 Thanks. I do have a charger/converter for the house batteries and a battery tender/minder for the chassis batteries. Everything seems to be working flawlessly now with new batteries. Things were different with the old ones. What's $1,000 for some new batteries. Next up is some new rubbers!💸💰🤑

I have a question, would it be safe to run a 50 amp power cord 150’? Or would you start getting voltage drops?

Got a question? Can you hook up to an existing box that use to power a trailer that's no longer in use? Meaning what box and how do I wire it up to a box from main grid?

Most portable generators can't carry the load at higher amperages seen with ,say a rooftop a/c. They will trip the breaker. You would damage the unit, otherwise.

Just curious, can you use the 50 amp and 30 amp circuits at the same time? The reason I ask, is we have a class a 50 amp service motorhome and we want to pour a van conversion camper that requires 30 amp service behind the motorhome
@campfirerver5678
@campfirerver5678 2 года назад
Brent it has been my experience that most RV Pedestals are 100 amp service this means that yes you can run your 50 amp RV off the same shore power with your 30 amp, there will be 3 breakers one to protect your 50 amp service one to protect your 30 amp service and one for the 120v 15 or 20 amp service. Hope this helps.
@KevinCoop1
@KevinCoop1 Год назад
Brent, I’m a retired electrical design engineer. Yes you can plug into all three and turn them on if you would like to. Most likely you will not be using anywhere near the capacity of the pedestal.
