That's a big part of owning a bike. Last year I ordered a choke cable and choke plungers for my 27 yr old VTR. Pattern ones just don't fit correctly. So I ordered a genuine Honda one from Fowlers in Bristol online. It was listed as not stocked but they could source one from Europe. Just over a week and it arrived. Genuine Honda parts still available easily for a 27yr old bike is pretty amazing I think.
Gotta love the Big H. Just don't try ordering any bodywork for a 28yo VFR.. Also, spares availability and potential for having a bike in bits for a few months is a perfect reason for N+1
The VTR wasn't even a big seller was it? But that availability of spares 27 years later is part of what you get when buy into an established brand, it comes at a premium and so it should.
Brilliant and oh so reassuring! 😂 I once chucked all my stuff in the boot of my car before leaving for work: handbag, schoolbag (I was a teacher) house keys, car keys. The lights flashed as the boot locked and the realization dawned... 🤦♀️
How I know that feeling 😁 I’m constantly torn between blithely succumbing without protest to the "age thing" stereotype or defiantly facing down the fear of cognitive decline 😂
I got my centre stand for my 800mt in ten days from Ali-express , relatively easy to fit the only hard bit was getting the springs on . Got my Aoocci fitted works a dream hardest bit running all the cables , ease of use nice big screen , apple carplay , google maps , brilliant , my garmin now chucked in the draw never to be used again . Great filming as always love the narrative
I think the main problem is without the manufacturer having a proper UK base (which would hold alot of spares),and would also have a quicker link to the Chinese factory for getting spares they didn't have, your left dealing with the importer Moto GB! I saw a video the other day and it was a guy who had reviewed the voge ds525x.He asked the bike shop when he returned what spares do you hold here for this model 🤔, the salesman had to admit they didn't have anything at all in stock on the premises and get stock from the warehouse as they need it. I had a quick look on Moto website to see exactly what stock they held and wasn't surprised too find it was just the basic essentials!! The previous model the 500 wasn't even listed for spares on their site! And there lies the problem,as soon as there is a model update, they won't carry on stocking part's for the previous one,and once they're sold you'll be waiting for a factory order to arrive. Next time you're at appleyards ask them what spares they carry for your 800!
Come on Dave, it's obvious.....the wife did it! Mine moves stuff all the time......I'm pulling my plums out wondering where the hell something has gone.......after a lot of frustration, thinking I need locking up, we establish that my highly efficient and organised wife has had a tidy up!! Sorted......you're welcome mate!! Dave (N Yorks)😁
I've just bought some royal enfield mirrors from India. They arrived in 4 days. I'm always amazed when I find anything I've put away. I assume I'll loose everything, so it's a pleasant surprise when I find something straight away! 😅
I ordered a RE chrome tank from India Friday night. Arrived Tuesday morning and fitted by Tuesday lunchtime. Never order parts via main dealer, if it's not in stock you never know when you'll get it.
Sold my Benelli because of the supply of parts ..Or lack of to be more precise….Hope it’s not going to be the same issue with CFMOTO .. A lot of Benelli owners on various forums would source parts from Ali Express 😄👍
My life has been dogged by things disapearing and turning up again in odd places. Last year I'd been out with the dog for a walk on the moors, about an hour after returning I felt for my wallet and it wasn't there. I checked around my study then went back on the moor and retraced my route and check down the back of the van's seats with no luck. When did I last use it? That morning on my way to Barlic where we have a house I was working on. I drove over to Barlic but still no wallet. I had a fair bit of cash in it but also all my cards and driving licence was what worried me more. Back home I check the bank online and found nothing missing. So I went to bed with a veiw to stop all my cards in the morning. As I came down stairs in the morning I said forcefully out loud "wallet, show yourself now"! I went into my study and there on the floor behind my swivel chair was my wallet fully intact. The night before I'd turned my chair over in another part of the room and checked all the floor area. It wasn't there! So next time something goes missing just tell it forcefully "Get you arse back here NOW!
I thought you were going to find the CFMOTO keys in the Microwave Dave. I'm nearing 68 years of age and regularly find an empty space where I thought I left summit. Stuff invariably turns up when you're looking for something else. Mind you, I don't think it is 100% down to my antiquity. My wife has a deadly habit of tidying up and putting stuff in a " safe place ". Unfortunately, her logical and my logical don't often match, even after forty plus years of marriage. Anyone else ever spent half a day "re-untidying" several sets of spanners so that Metric, Whitworth and AF weren't in the same tray?
You made me smile with your key issue. Some years ago I had a Hayabusa K5. It was a insurance requirement to have a immobiliser fitted. So a Datatool system was fitted. So had a key and Datatool fob.. Long story short, I mislaid my keys, luckily had a spare key and fob.. Couldn't find it for love of money.. So had a new key, Datatool fob, plus coding charges.. Annoyed with myself but at least I had a spare... Two day's later found the key and fob in my tool chest!!??.. CF moto is interesting insofar not good customer service..
That is a nice road, Dave! As we age, the memory gremlins become more active. Re CF Moto and the key, poor communications can quickly get a company a bad name. When it comes to P&A availability, company stock levels work on three parameters, being history, lead-time and bank-stock; ordering then become a mathematical calculation, with gut-feel thrown into the equation. The importer cannot afford to carry vast numbers of parts which they might never sell and the parent company overseas also needs time to build a sales history, which in turn determines their stock level. Given that there are around 30,000 components in a car (less in a motorcycle, of course), it's a fine line between satisfying the customer and having excessive and costly stock on hand. Having walked this tightrope for many years for major automotive companies, both Japanese and American, I can testify that it rapidly brings grey hair and ulcers!
When looking at the new Voge 900, I asked about spare parts availability. The salesman said they (MotoGB) "christmas tree" bikes in their warehouse for parts. That's the spare parts infrastructure behind these Chinese bikes.
Great story and great content as usual! The guy I told you about with the Ozarks back roads channel ordered different parts and wound up just ordering parts for the 790 adventure KTM swing on bearings. I’m sure water pump impeller would be the same thing when I change the oil on minebehind the plate where the oil filter is they said KTM on the plate. Hope this helps you, sir. God bless.
Hi Dave. I had the impeller done when I took mine in for its first service, the engineer noticed the recall when I booked the service and had the part when I took the bike a week later. I use northwest power sport near Skelmersdale and they have a good relationship with CF because they have been selling their quads for some time.
I bought an Aprilia Dorsoduro a couple of years ago, it only had one key and seeing as how if you end up with no keys you have to spend about £1500 to replace the clocks (where the secret security device lives, if indeed they are still available) I decided it would be prudent to get a second key. Aprilia took eight months to send said key blank from Noale and when it got here it was the wrong one. Bugger. Happily though, the spares chap at the dealer looked at my key, wandered off into the back for a bit and came out with a dusty old plastic bag that had a key blank in, just like mine. It must have been in the back there for fifteen years :-) Also, I have noticed that as I get older, I put things in really odd places then forget doing it. Getting old is rubbish. Beter than the alternative though.
There comes a time when a 'senior moment' is no longer whether or not you're going to make it round the Ramsey Hairpin but has become a bewildering facet of everyday life.
I thought you were going to say the key was in the microwave, that's why it shorted out 🤣 I ordered a centre stand for my Benelli trk702 from Benelli, it came within 5 days 👍
Are there any reported issues as per the KTM 800 models? I think cfmoto made the motor for ktm 800 for a few years and now the cfmoto are using the 800??
Your key will be with my external hard-drive that I put in a safe place 3 years ago. I’ll let you know if I ever find it. Just watched your vid to the end, was my hard-drive in your pannier perchance?🤔🙄
Hi . I regularly buy some bike parts from China and the longest that i have had to wait is 3 weeks and the fastest that i have received my good is 4 days . Its not the shipping that's the issue its the bloody paperwork involved .So many company's will hold onto a shipment until they have enough to ship IE full containers. Very funny about the keys . My keys came of the ignition on the M6 . Now i had a major problem as i was traveling back to Ireland. Great stream mate 👍👍👍Ride safe
I used to know a key cutting stall in a certain market , that could copy any vehicle key , chipped or not . I reckoned the guy running the show , was a right dodgy shifty looking character , but they were handy & a hell of a lot cheaper than a main dealer . Also on the subject of microwaves , almost 30 years ago I bought a Daewoo 800 power micro wave cost 110 quid, it’s still running refuses to die , the glass rotating diss broke over 10 years ago , replaced by balancing a old Pyrex dish . Have been meaning to replace it for about the last 15 years , just never got around to it . On the subject of up & over garage doors , being a retired joiner I must have fitted a multitude of them plus frames . Unless they are reinforced with extra locks , they can be popped open in seconds, i often had to resort to forcing them open due clients loosing garage keys . I once ransacked my house looking for my bike keys & they were still in my seat lock barrel under tail end of bike . 😎👍
Isn't KTM the distributer for CFmoto? If so it could it be a breakdown between KTM and CFMOTO in getting the accessories you ordered? I have, in the past couple of weeks, placed a few orders with Ali Express. The delivery has been 7-9 days, so I don't think the delay in getting your centre stand is caused by shipping. Lovely scenery, I have a soft spot for Hawes.
Hi BTW, Low cost bike: , good as it may be ; The Chinese churn them out to make the profit for the short term. Spares and support takes cost and effort, which is not as profitable.and therefore, of secondary importance. Believe me, I worked with the Chinese for 20 years. Theres an old Chknese saying::: No Money, No Honey That's a fact. You might find that Ali Express may be their official spares route !! They do things differently to our western expectations. An example is:: different wiring on the same machine from the same factory!!! WHY?? Because wiring is sub contracted to different suppliers who just come into the factory wire the product and leave. No thought to colour coding or numbering etc, a wire is a wire ___ end of. This is just a short insight into the "" imerging"" suppliers mindset. A Nightmare for us regulated consumers Regards MikeN
Old man absent mindedness. My dad is forever ‘losing’ stuff. The end. I’m more surprised that you actually think or even believe aftercare for your CF is going to be there!
I would never want that bike! Insectoid transformer looking thing ! Don't they have those cheese cams? I don't want to look at a cell phone on my cluster ! TPMS is unreliable garbage. MG sounds really good !
My experience of Chinese shipping, especially post lockdown, is that it is capricious, at the best of times. Costs are high and items won't get shipped until the carrier is at a profitable capacity. Therefore, your centre stand could be waiting for other items to join it (not necessarily from CF Moto).
A locksmith with modern equipment can scan key and tell you if it has a chip . I bought a CFMOTO CLX 700 Heritage a year ago here in U.S. I dropped it soon after and broke shift lever . Called and ordered a replacement from dealer . Was told it would be some time due to metal and wood shortages . After a Month I ordered one from Ali Express . 13 days later I found it in my mail box . 3 months later the one from dealer arrived . Well now I have a spare onboard in case I for get to put kick stand down again ! Now I just order oil filters and such for Ali Ex . Costs Less too .
I came back from a ride a few weeks ago took off my prescription sunglasses changed them for my normal glasses and I've never seen them since, searched everywhere including my bike jacker but no luck. I'm like you completely lost as to were they are.
Hey Dave, don't think parts are just an issue with CFMOTO. I own a Guzzi and a CFMOTO. I've ordered numerous parts for both online. As you mentioned the original parts for the CF are readily available from AliExpress. I'm sure some factory workers are selling parts on the side. As for Moto Guzzi, due to someone pulling out in front of me. I need a new front mudguard. I've been waiting 12 months for a replacement. During this time we've received one that was damaged and one that was the wrong part. That was 8 months ago and I'm still waiting. Luckily the bike is still rideable after a front disc was replaced. Cheers
Loving your storytelling ability and 'turn of phrase'. Such moments, of misplacing items, has convinced me that either Gremlins exist or a member of my household enjoys playing tricks on me. Of course, the third alternative, that I unwittingly erred myself, is an admission too far😂 Thank you Dave for your charm and insights and warm wishes from The Netherlands.
My guess, on the delay of spare parts, would be that it is a financial problem. The UK importer does not want to spend on buying loads of spares and storing them 'just in case'. I have the same problem in France with MG cars (another Chinese company) but following their sales success they have built a large spares depot - which may or not be empty - to service the needs of European MG customers.
I put a key for a new Kawasaki Z1000 in a safe place once, somewhere in my garage, never found!! I've moved house 4 times since, I bet someones found it!! it's our age Dave!!!!My wife was NOT a help, I said to her " wheres my bike key" "Where you left it" she replied , no sympathy at all!!!
Hiya, LOvely ride out and I really loved your story, oh how I wish I had a pound for everything Ive lost and found in a strange place recently, Is is old age do you think ?? Take care mate.
The loss of your CF Moto keys highlighted two issues , the first is that CF Moto's after sales service is seriously lacking (Chinese parts distribution is still in its infancy) the second is you had a senior moment which ultimately led to key blindness 😅
It sounds like the Key Gods had a little play with your car's TPMS, to allow you to locate the CF's keys! We all have these strange disappearances, so often keys, and I daresay more than a few times the 'disappearance' relates to us hiding something for security purposes, then forgetting that we did. It probably relates to age in two ways. One, in that of course we are getting older - my birthdays start with a seven - and we may have worn out our brains with all those years of thinking. The other being that many of us may have been able to afford some slightly better stuff, that is worth stealing, when we are older. If it wasn't for criminals, we would have a lot less of these situations. Every time we have to unlock things we own, we are reminded that we only go though all that because there are people who would steal our sh1t. Sad really. I don't have TPMS on anything, but I understand that - even at the MotoGP level - they can play up. It seems to me that it is expecting a lot of the remote technology to work perfectly attached to a spinning wheel, going over bumps. I might wait until they get better, and continue kneeling beside my vehicles (in appropriate homage?) and check them 'the old way'. But it's not the kneeling down that's the problem of course - it's the getting back up...
Interesting video and chat. It’s like everything in life , everything is ok till something goes wrong. I wonder what else is inside those leather bags😂
On the parts supply - it may relate to it being a new model. I bought a new Transalp a year ago, and some Honda accessories I ordered at the same time also took months. As did the actual bike, which I waited months for, whilst being told "it should be in next week"... Apparently COVID still has some bearing, as these supply chains were interrupted for a long period, bikes and parts, and the Transalp and Hornet were the restart of the supply of Hondas. But the few parts I have ordered since have come in within days. I did ponder this issue of parts supply for new Chinese models in another video's comments - it may have been one of yours I think - so we will keep an eye on this. But it may relate to it being a new model, as well as a relatively new manufacturer, so hopefully this will resolve over time. But it makes for a slightly worrying riding experience, wondering if the impeller that is getting replaced is due to an odd failure, or whether they will all fail. So you now have to ride around with one eye on your temp gauge, unsure if one bike just got a bit hot, or whether an impeller cracked from the keyway or something on a heap of them. Often a manufacturer will decide that such a part may be less prone to failure in a different material, and replace plastic with metal (or even vice versa) so hopefully the replacements arrive soon. At least I guess your weather is getting colder, whereas ours (South Australia) is warming up. Ride on.
@@thebingleywheeler We are indeed fortunate, to be able to ride all through winter, and we admire those in the northern hemisphere who still ride, in spite of having months of severe winter conditions. Of course we have the other problem, where a summer ride can get up around 40C, which is not ideal either! But the Australian and S. African riders DO have the better end of that deal. But travelling in the UK (and the US) has many features we don't have here, so 'everyone's a winner'. Australians love travelling in the UK and Ireland, with the countryside, the villages, and the history, and I have done many miles there, but we do wonder how you deal with so much rain. Thanks for your thoughtful videos, and all the best with the new bike.
A nice ride and chat. Re the Aoocci how do you find it with your gloves... I tried to return mine as it did not work with my gloves. Their support said - buy some different gloves. So good kit no doubt good price but no good to me - they would take it back but at my expense to post to china and any import duties would be taken off the refund as well as a 15% restocking fee. Buyer beware
Morning matey, I had the impeller changed on my bike on its first service a couple of weeks ago. My dealer had a plastic bag with about 10 in it. They also told me when I was buying it that the key didn't have an immobilizer in it, but not sure on that.
Key's, not uncommon to us oldie's always looking for keys, spanners and other items mate. Parts delivery is another issue. I ordered a center stand from Honda in April this year and here I am in late October and I'm still waiting so it's on all goods. I thought i'de fit it through the winter park up but, will it arrive on time. Not the dealership they chased it and been told it's on the boat, it must be that one out of the song?
I commuted by bike for years, and adopted a robotic approach to keys. Same pocket after putting it on its main stand. Now I don't have to, chaos reigns. Car boot is a favourite hiding place.
My 800MT just had the impeller recall done at 5k miles and no problems. The part took about 5 weeks to turn up. Appleyard took about 2 hours to fit. 😊. On the key issue, why not get it cut and test, so we'll all know the answer? 😊 . Aslo, I notice you've changed your tyres for more off road focused, how are they? And which tyres?.. keep up the good work...
I always keep my keys in the same place, and when I go out on a run, usually put a spare set in my jeans pocket. Went to take my Harley out, and for the life of me, could not find the spare set of keys; must have spent days looking everywhere - just about drove me nuts. Eventually, working backward, I remembered I'd last had them on the Dave Day run to Barrow, Yup, they were in the luggage I'd used on that run. Old and daft springs to mind 😂 Regarding support for Chinese bikes, I really fancied an MBP C1002V, but of course, spares could be a concern, so I checked the spares availability on the MotoGB website; they've got next to buggar all. Are the distributors the bottle neck? Or are the Chinese manufacturers just not making parts available? A lot of the new Chinese bikes make for a very attractive proposition, but, if parts aren't available, then I may have to give them a miss
Any good locksmith (or dodgy one for that matter) can clone a key - cut it *and* clone the chip. It cost me about £40 all in. Oh, any "electronic security system" isn't. They can all be easily bypassed as you well know.
Couldn't find one of mine once, it turned up in the seat lock. Others occasionally turn up in a pocket of a hoodie that's been through the washing machine and then hung up in the wardrobe.😢 All worked ok afterwards though I have found one in the fridge once😮.
hi dave I'm still waiting for two small brackets for my suzuki bike and it a common bike been out for years and the brackets are from the uk 2 months crap john
Good Morning Dave , Just as well you found your keys mate , i bet you had half the house ripped apart looking for them , you are lucky to the fact that you have other bikes to ride but if your only mode of transport is the CF just how long is it going be laid up in at the dealers for , as always take care & ride safe
They make enough parts to sell whole products . They want to flood the market with bikes. Therefore spares come second and will be on a manufacturing lead time. If you have to wait 6 months for the next batch of bikes to hit the market you won’t be seeing spares within that time. The Japanese however have UK based spares warehouses and chosen specialist spares retailers. Dave remember that rocking horse turd of a spare part I needed for the 800DE ?. Part was next-day from Suzuki UK to the spares retailer then a day From Robinsons Foundry to me. That’s 2 days for a rare replacement part. It’ll be a while before If/ or the Chinese can get to that level of service mate. I hope to be proven wrong but being in the job I am that’s why I played it safe. I’m sure the CF Moto will be faultless mate and give the market enough time to build up a decent route to readily available spares. Just my 2 penneth. 😬
After sales service is a concept that doesn't seem to have occurred to CFMoto, and having dealt with a number of Chinese companies this does not surprise me in the slightest. The attitude seems to be "You got it cheap, what more do you want ?" The phrase "Caveat Emptor" springs unbidden to mind.
I agree I personally wouldn't by another Chinese bike. Spares and after sales service none existent. I will stick with well known bike brands thanks, They have never let me down when I've wanted help or parts. Not saying that the Chinese bikes are bad, just customer service and parts backup.
@@Paul-pb3vq I spent most of my working life in logistics and dealt with companies from all over the world, and you can tell where a company is based by the things they do - or don't ! Italian and French companies do not understand on-time delivery or urgency in any form, American companies don't understand that export shipping has to pass through customs, and the Chinese don't do after sales support - you get what they give you and then you're on your own !
The key in panniers issue is probably a result of daydreaming. As an example, I once put the bread knife in the bread bin and realised this after I was about to put the bread into the dishwasher!! I suspect you intended to put something else into the Guzzi panniers and that whatever that was you probably looked at it in your hand afterwards and wondered what you intended to do with it.
@@ColinCarFan just after watching the film I got milk out of the fridge and was about to pour it into my lunchbox over my sandwiches, just managed to stop in time, lol I think it must be contagious! 🤣😂🤣👍
Bloody amusing, sorry 🤣👏😀👍 That’s a worrying situation with CF moto ! 😮 Curious what the situation is with Royal Enfield re spares and parts! I haven’t bought an Enfield yet but I’m seriously considering it. Cheers.
Ohh TBW! This has become a classic video! Pin this to your channel 👌 I've actually emailed CFmoto global & they got back to me in 2 days. Not saying your dealership didn't send an email on your behalf, but they got back to me & included my dealership. Edit: actually, what ever happened with the car tyre & how is the budget microwave? Does it still heat up the soups?
A dealer that doesn't know there product or have equipment to programme is a tad worrying. Its the same in the car world Chinese cars get written off, because of a lack of parts. Did it have a chip in the key after all that. They may be cheap but no good waiting ages for parts.
It's clear to me someone broke into your home and placed the key into the pannier. It happens to me all the time. My neighorhood is going downhill fast. And it's easy to explain why you haven't heard back from cf moto. Their email response is on the same ship your center stand is being transported on. All simple and logical explanations. Good luck with that proverbial slow boat from China. 🤣
Check the motorcycle owners manual should have information about the transponder in the key I would be confident it will have a transponder and yes I am going to check my owners manual for my Honda.keys I have a lost property cupboard full of keys left in loan cars at work crazy I have house keys how the hell do they gain access to the house ? I’ve contacted the clients oh yes thanks we will call into collect the keys,iPad,headphones, sun glasses, camping chairs etc. They forgot the conversation. We need a bigger lost property cupboard 🧐
welcome to my world lol been losing keys since I reached 70 ,what with climbing up and down stairs trying to remember why I wanted to go up stairs in the first place .The problem with most Chinese and Indian bikes is the supply of accessories and spares not just CFMOTO ,been thinking of buying a Benelli 702 but this very problem is a delemiar Mr Wang;s seem to be as cheap as Ali;s
It's aliens doing it. ( The keys that is). As for the bike spares , that's a little much to put up with, I'd have to think on that answer, probably sell .
Heyup, I could do with you telling viewers a breakdown of the route you are taking , it annoys me because most of my riding is in the dales .Tommy Tickle
Kin'ell the desparation for content is staggering a lost key n a broken impeller..FFS . We all wait in suspense till the big reveal hopefully it'll be pissing down at least the ride would be a spectacle 😎
i ordered a --- nicecnc ---- handlebar storage bag after watching - mindful motorcyclist - 40 weird money pounds , when the transaction went through is turned out to be 30 quid plus a few pence import , - so i knew it was coming from china , just over a week later it arrived ,,,, the point being - cf are taking the piss ;;; please send eddie around asi have a new stock of treats ;;;
Sounds to me like you unfortunately have been afflicted with the garage gremlin, creeps in moves stuff about sometimes even when you are in there, spooky!
you have the same days as me --- chasing your tail and getting little done ;; probably because your always thinking of the bigger picture and worrying about the world ,, then the forgetful pattern starts ;;
You only know how good a company is , when something goes wrong !! , if they carnt be bothered to even reply to a email it don’t look good for any future communication , RUDE as u say ! .
