Chaddesden, Derby - A Personal Journey 

hello, i left Lees Brook school in 1983,.. and so pretty much all of your journeys in the video i have also been on,.. strangely the same thing happen to me when leaving school at that time, many friends i never saw again, one in particular a lad called simon walker,... simon was a rockabilly one year, then after summer break he came back to school a skinhead,.. great days,.. i often wonderd what happen to him after school,... your video was very poignant sir, when you got to your friends Grave,.. this video was a lovely gesture to your friendship and good times gone, but fondly rememberd. thank you for upoloading sir

Awesome video...i lived in Chad in the 80s in numerous different houses...Life is short,,,just keep the happy memories in your heart of your friend. I left UK in 1997, and lived in Egypt,Canada,and now in USA for the past 20+ yrs....i often think of UK and miss the fish n chips ❤❤❤❤

I miss chadd I used to live on notts road hanging around Beaufort street and up by the old rocket pub.

I was born and bred in Wilsthorpe Rd. in the late thirties. It was Morley Rd Junior School and Spondon House Secondary Modern for me,the latter, was the largest school in Derbyshire at that time. I had a marvellous time growing up in Chaddesden .I spent many hours playing football and cricket on Chaddesden Park. In the fifties, Chaddesden Cricket Club was one of the top sides in the area and we were the first club from Derby to join the Notts and Derby Border League which was a very high standard. My experiences as a younger kid during the war were memorable and unforgettable including the Gerries dropping a bomb on our football pitch in the park. In my time there, the brook was called Gipsy Brook and I have seen kingfishers nesting there.Thanks for a brilliant moving video.

Used to play football with a lad who lived in Chad. He used to talk about a pub called the Blue Boy (I think) in Chad and how rough it was.

I have very mixed feelings about Chaddesden. Chaddesden felt like bandit country when I grew up there in the 70s. The culture was aggressive, angry and, often, random acts of violence, abuse of property and people. Looking back, this was due to poverty and poor education. It was only when I attended Wilmorton College, that I experienced a period of happiness and like minded people. I left Derby during the late 80s and I spent considerable time in the City (financial district of London) chasing money. On the rare occasions I go back to ,Chad', I find it's become wealthier since my time there. The mentality has changed more positively but it still has the 'victim' mindset. It's not just my opinion. On occasion, I bump into ex Derby people and we usually share the same perceptions - strangers or old friends who've moved away. My comments will annoy many, but enlighten those who are driven to leave. My strongest advice is learn; both academically and behavioural (professional) skills. Become driven and get out. For money chasers, align yourself with successful people. You will succeed if you put your mind to it. There's a huge world out there - don't get trapped.

I grew up at no7 & I remember your family yourself & Sara if I am right. It is so nice to see you back in Chaddesden after all these years. The video is well put together and a tribute to choll.

I grew up in that area of chadd too. Went to infants and juniors there, then on to olive ede which then became Lees brook. Many hours spent playing on the park. Growing up then was so different. Not so much technology such as I phones etc. Safe to be on the street till dusk at school holidays. Great times.

I started teaching at the old Leesbrook school in 1986 in the Art Dept..

I lived in Chaddesden, lived on Washington avenue, went to Chaddesden infant school, then the junior school, where we built a monster for the Dr who competition. .I remember Tom Baker wouldn't sign any autographs at the actual competition in Derby, I then went to Lees Brook High school . We must of been in the same year? I was in Mercury at Chaddesden junior school. I was in the school football team. Best days ever!

I lived my first 5 years on Wilsher Road, in Chaddo. Walked Nottingham Road Cemetery many times, getting there through a “jitty”. Now living in Los Angeles, I miss Birds Cakes. Their cream doughnut, and Apricot & Blackcurrant Creams are the best. Thanks for bringing back memories. RIP Choll.
