Chadwick Boseman and Viggo Mortensen compare the refugee politics in 'Black Panther' to those of today's administration, plus more on Moretnsen's 'Green Book.'
Viggo Mortensen is honestly the most underrated actor of our generation. He is absolutely amazing in all his movies and yet he doesn't get the recognition he deserves.
He avoids mainstream media (except for LOTR but that was 17 years ago) and does quality movies. If he decided to take part in the Marvel Universe then everyone would know him better and he'd get the status RDJ does but he's more withdrawn from that kinda place.
They did a roundtable together with Mahershala Ali, Hugh Jackman, Richard E. Grant and Timothée Chalamet too. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8kkag-jVdt8.html
Now even more precious as Chadwick B has passed on August 28th. GOD rest his soul. This man worked like a dragon, getting so much work done. His loss is felt deeply all around the world 😪. What a legacy he has left...
@@joannew-schmidhammer9325 Joanne, I honestly took time off from social media for two days. I'm feeling his loss. The impact Mr. Boseman had is greatly felt, not just by his portrayal of Black Panther. I love every movie he was part of. I want to believe that he is at peace, and may he rest easy.
That's because these are actors, people who work in a craft, and not a parasitic social class relying in the oppression and exploitation of the masses work, like the capitalists. There can't be good kings.
This is poignant. I never realized the true meaning of this French origin word, "poignant." until I saw Chadwick Bosman in Black Panther, after he died, and then watched him in all of his interviews, and his amazing speech at his Alma Mater, Howard University, at their graduation, which inspired the entire class, and everyone who has seen it since on RU-vid and the Internet. I had seen Chadwick Bosman in his portrayal of Jackie Robinson in 42 and in other films, without realizing he was the same person. I applaud him and I admire him greatly. I'm aware now, that he did the lion's share of his memorable films, after his diagnosis of Stage 3 Colon Cancer. He hosted SNL and gave numerous interviews in a variety of venues, smiling through them all. He visited children fighting cancer, started a charity, gave an inspiring speech on life to the graduation class at Howard University, his Alma Mater, and he married the woman he loved, after years of a devoted partnership. We will never know the pain that he endured to accomplish all this. I'm convinced that he was strengthened by his personal faith, his resolve, his fortitude, his endurance, and undeniable grace, in his mission to accomplish as much as he could in those four years, while going through multiple surgeries and chemotherapy. His understood the preciousness of the time he had left, and he lived it to the full. That should challenge us to live more fully and realize how precious every moment is.
It really makes you think, in retrospect, when you see Chadwick subtly putting his hand on his chest at different points (probably because he was experiencing chest pain).
In my eyes. This is Aragorn and T’challa. One king died in the events after his story, the other died in real life.. Rest In Peace Chadwick Boseman! Wakanda forever! And..... for Black Panther. -Charges to fight Cancer-
*While his life was degenerating, he put his* *own life aside and focused on the* *well-being of other people. Chadwick smiled through it all....* *And He Never Froze*
Such a *beautiful* *person* inside and out. This generation has sadly just lost one of the absolute *greatest* of our time. Rest in Power, Chadwick Boseman ♥️🙏🏾♥️
Huh. I felt he did not leave enough space for Chadwick to fill out his thoughts. Always interrupting. Oh, very smooth, but he dominated. And don't get me wrong - I love Viggo!
@@4adinak I feel so bad for agreeing with you! I absolutely adore Viggo but he talked more than that he listened, something he didn't do in other interviews (for the ones I've seen) I wish he would have let Chadwick finish his scentences more... I feel so bad for saying this about Viggo hahaha.
I watched this yesterday and was mesmerized by Chadwick's humbleness and whole personality. I told myself that I'll watch his next film in theatre and in less than 24 hrs I read the news of his passing. Great loss. He was at the peak of his career. Rip King. Wakanda forever.
Ik what you mean. I first encountered him in the Hollywood Reporter Roundtable without ever having seen him act & was struck by his personality too. You can still watch his next film in the theatre: ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’
@@hm2011100 I'll definitely watch that film. Also, I watched the roundtable few months ago and I was blown away by all the actor's wisdom and maybe that's why I didn't feel struck by Chadwick's personality alone I guess. But this interview was one on one and that's why it had that effect on me.
@@Meri.chari1003 It's difficult for interruptions not to happen in a conversation where both parties are passionate about the subject. And it's not unusual for a parent to talk about their kid and it's not like it wasn't relevant to the subject at hand.
Appreciated that Viggo "went there" with the questions and brought up possibly uncomfortable topics regarding race/culture. There needs to be open discussion/dialogue like these.
Viggo is a true Renaissance man. An actor, poet, publisher, well-read, fluent in several languages, politically astute - open to culture and willing to ask questions. And he likes hockey. Definitely my top choice for person I would want to have dinner with.
Always see this notion of asking 'uncomfortable questions' with regard to race, but I get the sense that what individuals mean when they use this expression, is ask questions that affirm their own pre-held beliefs. Genuinely curious as to how these questions are uncomfortable and any different to the typical Hollywood rhetoric? An actual question that is never asked, which I would like to see Bosman answer, is how much do you think the critic's reception of the film actually reflects the quality of the film?
To look this healthy and composed while battling with cancer for three years, going on four...I am in awe. He continued to act and preach and do what he loved, up until the end. An inspiration to us all to listen to the call of our passion, honour it, and pursue your purpose. Rest in peace, beautiful soul.
These two men have a peaceful, calming presence & tonality. Both seem to have a humility mixed with confidence and self assurance. Both are well spoken and intelligent. Neither asserts self over the other, they both listen, and engage. Chemistry is beautiful and intriguing. RIP CHAD BOSEMAN. 💔 What a beauitful soul. 😔
Chadwick carries such profound dignity, in his eyes, in his voice, in his hands, but not a faked dignity, like rich people's or some celebs' , but a genuine one. Earned. It kills me to see him here, now that I know he was going through so much at the time. He seems so in peace with himself and he emanates strength. Two of my favourite actors together.
They seem to be very similar calm and collected and intellectual just in different bodies. People that are exactly the same either get along very well or try to destroy each other lol.
@@aharonemanuel4010 Wow...what an insensitive comment. I have younger siblings and his portrayal as Black Panther meant a lot to me, them and many other young people who look like him. His death hit us hard and given what he went through to bring that character to the screen is just what I said, It meant the world to us. If it's not your experience that's OK. No need to mock my comment. You have a good day!
@@tara3870 He would never understand what Chadwick meant to us as people of colour. His portrayal meant everything to me and what he went through to make it as perfect as he did is astounding. He will NEVER be forgotten. Greetings from Nigeria.
@@arshaddahlan It's really going to come down to Cooper, Bale or Mortensen for Best Actor. But I think that Cooper is most likely to leave with Best Director and just a nom for Best Actor.
I’m white male in my 60’s and thought this man glowed enlightenment He was evolved. I have two friends both colon cancer survivers and black under 40 and also both very special human beings ( as we all are) when I heard of chadwicks death from something so close to home it really shook me. It should not shock it’s extremely prevalent among black YOUNG males but rarely discussed . Chadwick saw it as personal issue which was his choice and right . Their was something about him you did not need to be black to feel most know him from black panther but he made other epics ( ie a message from the king ) where he through his talent portrayed a really important message consistently . That message well that’s yours to find . A great loss but a spirit like his does not just fade into the abiss . Awards trophies get dusty his memory will be fresh forever .
@Alexander Supertramp He lived in Argentina something like 8 or 10 years of his formative years. Of course, he is an EEUU-Danish citizen and lived in a lot other countries, but he also has a lot of argentinian cultural features that you will only notice is you speak or can understand him doing an spanish talken intervew. And listen to his accent and cultural references. You will also notice the difference between his venezuelan and argentinian life experience. Sorry, but that´s something difficult to notice in wikipedia...
His death brings not just a sense of grief, but anger. We've lost so many performances we'll never see. He began his career studying to be a director, and he would surely have progressed to behind the camera; and so, there are movies we will never get to see, stories we will never enjoy and touch us.
You put into words exactly what I am feeling. It has been a month and I am still affected by his death. I think that what I am continuing to feel is anger at the lost of what could have been as it relates to his future projects. Such a talented man and it just seems so unfair that he is no longer here.
@@sij809 It helps when you keep yourself in great shape. Outside of putting on weight for Green Book Viggo has kept himself in great shape over the years. Boseman definitely has to stay in shape with him always playing superheroes or baseball player types.
I’ve never seen this til now. I never knew this conversation existed til now. Huge fan of both actors. Love both movies, Black Panther & Green Book. R.I.P. Chadwick Boseman
The more I see and listen to Viggo, the more I'm dying to sit in a quiet cafe in some obscure place and have a deep conversation with him for a few hours. He's extremely thoughtful and expressive, with a soothing presence. You can tell he's a deep thinker, as am I. The conversation would be amazing.
Like how Chadwick discusses the intensity and physical stresses of filming without once mentioning his illness. Using both actors as examples why do we not have classy, thoughtful leaders like this?
Not sure how in the hell he had the strength and energy during a cancer battle to film this and other movies as well. I'm amazed. He also took the time to visit kids with cancer. RIP Sir!
Viggo better know his African American literature. ;-) Chad's versatility as an actor is inspiring. I loved this interview. What a wonderful exchange between two, gifted artists. I wish it were longer.
This could've gotten an hour long and it would still be enjoyable, man, what an inmense loss. 🥺🥺🥺🥺. This will be the way I will remember, always genuinely smiling, being present, completely humble and focused no matter what.
Just so much light in Bosemans eyes the fact that he was battling cancer but yet still radiant . The best action parts of Black Panther was the water scenes when had to fight with no powers.
man...listening to chadwick describing what he went thru making Black Panther sounds hard enough... but, then, knowing that he was doing all that WITH cancer already beginning to ravage his body...oh, my gaaawwwddd.... a TRUE life super hero for sure. i wonder how viggo reacted once he heard about his unfortunate too soon passing. RIP.
Chad and Viggo are astonishing! Both are very humble and passionate human beings. You can tell they love what they do with the right material/projects. Love them!
The fact he knew what was internally going on in his private life and still accomplish so much is inspiring for anyone to go after what your calling is while we are still here in this dimension. In my culture we never lost him, he’s in all of us.
@Biggie Smalls Viggo was born in NYC and travelled the world with his parents as a child. He has never lived in New Zealand apart from the time of the filming of LOTR.
@Biggie Smalls Viggo was born in Denmark. Raised by Danes but spent several years of his childhood in Argentina which is why he is fluent in Spanish. So no - not born in NYC. Lived in the US for many years before he went to New Zealand to act in the 3 "Rings" movies.
Preach agree 100 not only was it hard to not believe the character he was protraying but to see his character develop from his beginnings of prejudice to a now humble man with a different outlook on life because of his employment standings was truly great to watch best actor for sure and green book should get an Oscar
From a 40 minute interview like this, I can usually get a pretty good idea of how well the actors liked each other, respected each other as artists, and how genuine and inquisitive the Interviews are. This is a good one, folks.
I haven't seen it, but André "3000" Benjamin played Jimi Hendrix in Jimi: All is by My Side (2013) - and Wood Harris played him in Hendrix (2000) I bet Andre and Wood both did a really good job - both are underrated talents not that Chadwick couldn't have done it - I'm sure he would've been great - but often if it's been done recently enough, studios aren't looking to do it again there are several works of Chadwick's that I haven't seen yet - and others that have yet to come out - once the world is a little less crazy, I plan to take on some of the more heavy subjects - it's already a lot that he's gone *I'm not ready to be without you 🤴🏾🙅🏾*
I had no idea of Viggo's age until someone mentioned it here 😳 I just thought he was one of those guys who went gray prematurely 🥰 both have great genes apparently - you could never guess their ages just by looking
We will miss Chadwick for years. There could never be any other actor to play Black Panther! That role BELONGS to him. Sending prayers to his wife, family and friends. Such a truly good man.
I was just watching this yesterday, and today suddenly turned into a nightmare knowing that Chad has passed away!!!!! He was such a professional actor and he had so much depth in this interview. But he was already suffering so much pain during this talk. RiP!!!
I loved Chadwick's laugh. his walk and confidence...his brilliance as an actor and his dedication to humanity. He is so missed; it's still hard to accept this handsome great man is gone, waaaay too soon.
@@mizlisa19 I concur and everyone is saying the same it seems. I'll have to wait until beginning of Feb here in the UK...but well worth the wait, I'm sure. The acting looks superb! I can not wait to see these guys in character. I'm wishing them Oscars before even seeing the film... ;)
Two legends in the room!! This hurts deeply to see Chadwick Boseman doing this interview. He is very humble and sweet. Viggo Mortensen is a legend and very underrated. I have high regard for both of them.
Good genes and look at those cheekbones. Apparently , he takes good care of himself. I appreciate Viggo Mortensen!! Rest in peace Chadwick Boseman! 💔💔💔💔
when they started naming Each other’s films low key started tearing up. Always felt like these two were underrated actors. Good to see them getting the recognition they deserve.
And to think Chadwick knew he was ill. But look at his radiance! 19:25 I wonder what Chadwick was going to ask before Viggo, stopped him and asked him a question about Black Panther?
I love how humble Chadwick is. He is always so down to earth and look what he has achieved. He's not only a good actor but a writer and director. STILL humble.
Two beautiful, humble, talented, Gracious, men..These two Icons are what the American public should be holding up as an example. Viggo an incredibly underrated actor. Chadwick came in like a whirlwind and left in a breath..Rest in peace Chadwick. Your legacy will live on..
at first glance they couldn't be more different yet after you hear them talk for a while you notice that they're actually quite similar in a lot of ways. they're both very thoughful and methodical, like to take their time when talking. They both seem to enjoy discussing deep topics. great video to watch. it feels very natural
I'm looking at all his old video clips and it amazes me how selfless he was. So humble and inspiring. It makes you look at life differently. Live your life to the fullest. It makes me think what impact will you leave and what's your legacy. Chadwick accomplish what God wanted him to do. Take your rest young King. You will be truly missed but not forgotten. 💔
I can't imagine what Chadwick must have been thinking and feeling sitting there listening to Viggo talk about people hiding their truth or putting on a mask, knowing that that was what he himself was doing in that moment as he struggled with his illness
That was some great conversation. The Final shot of Viggo expounding on a particular point was great. To bad it was so clumsily cut off and didn’t give Chadwick a moment to answer.
Mortensen is one of those people that just....relishes in the opportunity to learn something new, especially when it comes to perspective, even if the process is awkward or potentially clumsy. If you have only seen him work in English I highly recommend checking out his 'Foreign' work - starting with 'Far From Men.' His silence is very loud and pronounced when his words are not. An international treasure, for freaking sure.
Viggo says he loves playing roles where that person has the secret life.....History of Violence was the first movie I ever saw of his outside of LOTR. Love that role/movie! And Chadwick.....I'll see him in anything!
You shouldn't be seeking validation from others. That's just being a coward. Secondly, you do realize that Black Panther was terribly underfunded and Green Book wouldn't have been made unless the black character was gay, right?
