Sean got what was coming to him. You can't have shiesty ground game in the UFC and last forever. He's going to have to put in some quality work learning defensive grappling positions while continuing honing in on his striking. Merab was a problem for him all night.

Great strategy. I went in with such low expectations, that once they transitioned to using the sphere fully I was amazed.

After the first round…. you could see omalley’s face was dumbfounded in the corner… he knew he was in for a long night…. every round after that… he looked more and more defeated and exhausted. damn…. i wanted him to DESTROY merab, KO…and elevate himself to the most memorable star of all time… after the first round… i knew MERAB was his cryptonite … sean could not beat him…he got in sean’s head, broke his trademark confidence … now i know they could fight 5 more times, and probably have the same outcome.

I’m happy for Merab, but I’m a completely bias towards wrestling base pre MMA, a fan to watch it grow in mma, total Dagestan jock rider, everything team quest that was one of original fight camps much less wrestling based, Yoel Romero damn near super hero. Khabib super fan. That said. Wrestlers will grind you out, they just need to not get cracked. I think Meehan seemed super patient. Did it right.

You can't just box on your feet or get taken down repeatedly and try to throw up submissions or elbows off your back and expect to win at a high level (unless you get lucky and your opponent also skipped wrestling/BJJ). If you are getting taken down and controlled repeatedly, it is a bad look to the judges. They can still do Noche...Honestly, some of the best wrestlers would be Mexican Americans (hint hint to UFC for Noche next year, Mexican American wrestlers are all over the rankings and roster --men's and women's). Make that card. Poor O'Malley looked like he was one of the kids sitting on the garbage cans outside Helena high school gym during wrestling season, passing a cigarette and looking inside at the sweat drenched wrestlers, saying "that shit sucks man." Middle school wrestling plus those 4 years in HS in MT would have won Sean the fight--forcing it on the feet where he'd dominate and still be champ.
