STL: link.propsmake... Here is my design of a full Chainmail for FDM printers. I have printed with PLA. #3dprintprops #cosplayprop #cosmaker #propsmaker #chainmail #chainmaille #3dprintingcosplay #3dprops #asmr #cosplay
This is really impressive! I’ve seen lots of videos of chia mail, but none where anyone attempted to print multiple continuous layers like this. Not to mention, the quality of your chain mail is outstanding!
The cojones of this man, not only to commit that much time and filament to this print, which could fail so easily and undetectably, but to just be casually ripping the layers off like he didn't give a damn, and for it to turn out with so few defects, hats off to you sir.
I'm not so sure about that, too much cooling would probably make it brittle. Also layer time was definitely long enough that everything would cool down. So maybe it would be even possible to print without cooling? I'm wondering how long it took him to print this
@@ABeautifulHeartBeat if that’s true, that’s not bad for the amount he gets here. I think a full suit usually takes a couple weeks when not using a printer. If you had an array of printers you could get an army worth of costumes done in no time. It looks really good too imo
@Jasmijn ariel and how much do you think 3d printed chainmaille will cost? And again, breaking. 3d printed rings are not as durable as aluminum/metal so you'd have to deal with something going wrong during the process.
UTTERLY Fascinating! My son explained (in about 20 seconds) how you print this, but it's like saying that if you want to go to the moon, you just build rocket.
I think 3D printing is much easier to understand when you can see a piece up close or watch the process happen. RU-vid is great for the latter, and for the former you could always order a piece from Etsy or elsewhere. It's pretty neat to see the lines where the print was laid down.
It physically pains me to think of the trial and error associated with getting this print to work so well. That print looks terrifying and also one of the best ways you can flex just how well calibrated your printer is lol, impressive sir
Maybe the coolest 3D printed item I've seen yet. It is intensely satisfying to watch you pull the chain mail apart...I can't imagine how psyched you must have felt to be doing it physically. Amazing.
I'm more surprised that the little rings held together. I've printed small parts and usually they're really fragile. The layer adhesion is a big problem with small diameters. And you seemed to pull on some occasions quite a lot.
It honestly seems impossible, how hard they are pulling... should break those tiny rings. I am truly blown away by this, it seems like it shouldn't be possible. What type of filament is this???

Bro you made plastic ramen!! All jokes aside that’s incredibly impressive. Both from a CAD point of view and from a 3D printing point of view. Your printer is very well dialed. Oh and the fact that you can yank on it and it doesn’t break.
I know nothing about 3D printing or it’s technical aspects but the sound and sight alone of this video is so super soothing. Definitely saving to my ASMR playlist!
Wow. WOW! I can't imagine how long it took to print that, and I can't imagine how many trials it took to get your printer and media dialed in. Fantastic.
This is the first time ever I've seen a video of 3d printed chainmail where it didn't completely turn to shreds as the layers were ripped apart. Great job! I thought these were impossible to make without them falling completely apart.
Awesome work on this, and obviously a kindergartner would not be using a 3D printer and if they were it would not be printing something this difficult to print. Gaming shops would love these.
I'd 100% wear that as a scarf 😂 I'm amazed by how it can be printed with all the links connected and it moved fine. also you gave it some good pulling trying to get the support sheet off and it seems quite durable
I worked for weeks to achieve what you did in a 16 hour print lol, it looks cool AF and I bet you could make money on people wanting to roleplay or whatever. It looks real but is light, real chainmail was heavy and you don't wanna carry it around a rennosance for hours lol.
Belt designs, like that CR-30, could be able to do this! You don't need to have a really big thing with maybe a 50x50 plate, but a relatively small belt machine ,so it can produce a piece of such a clothing with alike width and practically infinitely long. Really promising idea, hope to wear such things in near future
It was satisfying, then as it got closer to the end, I actually got anxiety thinking the video was going to end before they finished or it was going to break.
Interesting. Do you think you could make better contoured mail by varying the dimensions of the rings? Having sections (which you could wire together) that could naturally fit to the shape of a specific person's head, neck & shoulders (with smaller, finer rings on the head & neck, and thicker over the shoulders) would be more comfortable, while staying practical. A similar design concept has been used in prototype Mars spacesuits (MIT BioSuit), with an internal filament mesh designed to make the suit follow the contours of the human body under pressure (& not turn them into a stiff-armed human starfish...).
Nice idea actually. With such a print you can make props for live action role play which is lighter than metal but still looks quite realistic. I am not into 3d printing, so, is it really hard to print a chainmail like that?
Now imagine an era, where we have cyber knights and the smiths have mass printing locations, filled with tons of material which is being used to print millions of chain armor units. That would be a nice comic book idea (or atleast an detail i could see being added to various already existing sci-fi films/books/games).
This is satisfying to watch and listen to. I'm definitely not saying I like anything related to that weird thing where people nowadays does sounds with a close up mic and enjoy that. Because it actually makes me uncomfortable. But there are certain sounds that are satisfying. I guess mainly I'm more satisfied by something if it doesn't come across as the person full on doing something to please my ears. For instance this is this person pulling it off the printing thing. They are working hard and the sound sounds nice. But this person isn't like "oh hey guys let's see what this sounds like " just to please the listener. More so I guess I'm saying I don't like people who wisper in my ear and tell me stuff.
I understand not liking ASMR. Try searching for unintentional ASMR. There are a lot of videos of people just doing their work and explaining it with good sounds. Maybe you'd like that
You know you can like asmr and not like whispering, right? If you wanna listen to a rain storm or nature sounds it's still asmr. Tons of asmr videos include no speaking whatsoever
Those might be some of the most satisfying sounds I've ever heard! I bet, with the right model, you could print the chainmail as part of a "pattern," and have an actual garment, like a shirt or, more realistically, a hood/mask! I wonder if could you print this in a metal filament, sinter it, and turn it into REAL chain-mail? I think you might be able to! Anyway, very cool video!
It’s cool as a prop. I love cosplay (even though I don’t do it myself… I love looking at the creativity people have,) but it’s still plastic. Please don’t think it’s going to work like real Chainmail. But it’s certainly going to be lighter and look FANTASTIC in person and on camera. I thought this was a fascinating video. You earned a subscriber and a thumbs up from me!
