Good thing Inspector Buttercup showed up to supervise; otherwise that log might still be sitting there.

We're all commenting about how strong the horse is, but Tim has some serious stamina as well. I particularly liked the limbo dance as he extracts himself from under the porch after the coach bolting! Only on Way out West will you see a family yank 800 Kg of tree out of a hedge with a heavy work horse then sculpt an elegant staircase out of it with a chainsaw!

If you had any bits of treated lumber around, you might consider attaching them to the treads, both to increase the size of the treads for safety, and also to give the steps a chance of an extension to its life. Of course, this is just a suggestion. Obviously it would need to meet Inspector Buttercup's approval.

Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, would it have occurred to me to carve steps out of a log. What an amazingly brilliant and simple solution.
@rubenskiii

It’s an elegant solution that has been used by cultures all over the world, I’ve seen myself it being used in Romania but also in the Amazon rainforest on photo’s. Some are extremely long, litteraly the whole tree’s lenght going up to dazzling heights.

While I'm buried here in Berlin/Germany under gigatons of concrete, steel and glass, the way you live as shown in the videos makes me incredibly jealous!! While I tell myself that I couldn't achieve this for myself, for financial, health or other fake reasons... I have a very strong suspicion that I'm just too cowardly to take such a drastic step towards change !? Or I'm simply still not feeling bad enough and my disgust for the oppressive urban confines and my misanthropism are NOT YET strong enough !? Enjoy your existence in the secluded rural peace my friend and thank you for the pleasant and relaxing insights you allow us ! Enjo

We use our 11hp tractor from the 50s to get our logs around so the same power class as your horse :D. Get or make a Wedge shaped forwarding hook that you can hammer in the log. This way its much easier to pull because the chain doesnt drag on the ground when wrapped around the log and the front of the log lifts slightly when it gets pulled. Greetings from Germany
@spinningtrue
@spinningtrue 4 месяца назад
In my opinion you need to build a device which lifts the front of the log off of the ground when the horse pulls at it so the front doesn't dig into the ground and only the back drags.... seen this done on a workaway I stayed at years ago in Italy. I think there is a name for this device which I don't know but it is basically hitched higher off of the ground so as the horse pulls it tilts and leverages the front of the log off of the ground.

Are there any concerns with this creating a wood ramp from the ground up to your wood house, with respect to termites? Just thinking where I live, code requires wood houses to be isolated from the ground by things like a concrete foundation, brick foundation wall around a crawl space, etc. to discourage termite infestations.

So I wonder why the UK seems to use bottled Butane the way he USA used bottled Propane? I know the butane is at a much lower pressure, but does it make enough pressure to power heaters and stoves and such? Does it require a pump or something to increase the pressure???

Well I don't know about the UK - we're in Ireland - but here you can buy both easily enough. Butane's cheaper but I think it freezes sooner than propane? We just use it for a hob.

@@wayoutwest-workshopstuff6299 Sorry, I know you are not part of the UK, but you are all in the same area so in my mind you are similar in your infrastructure. I watch a channel called Reggyontheroad and I think he lives near Birmingham. He has several butane canisters around his shop. He even uses a couple filled with water as weights to keep a carport from blowing away. So are you guys near Donegal? Besides our guided tour of the rest of Ireland for our honeymoon in 2005, my wife and I visited Donegal on our own because it was not part of the tour.
