I just beat this game on my Genesis for the first time and had to come here to A-Frame's channel. But did I actually beat it? I lost to Death, and that's it, no second chance, so I assume the ending I got wasn't the best. Great game with unbeatably dark graphics and atmosphere but it is ridiculously difficult. I left my Genesis running overnight twice because I didn't want to turn it off and lose my progress. If that was Easy, I can't imagine what Hard mode is like. I'm only partially relieved that I "beat" the game; I know I'll have to do it again and beat Death to truly feel complete. If I don't, then this game will torment me forever. But maybe that's the point of Chakan: The Forever Man.
There are so many sound effects in this that got re-used in X-Men & X-Men 2, but I don’t see any crossover between the development teams. The movement and level design are also similar, and they’re both tough as hell, and the music hits all the same beats. Am I missing a link here?
Saw this just now and INSTANTLY hit like! I'm playing this game right now and still can't beat it! So the fact that you can beat this let alone on speed run on hard is amazing. Oh I just learned about that super jump 10 minutes ago looking for codes lmao
the funk on that credits tune reminded of something i would have heard on MTV liquid television. would have been interesting if this was an animated series
he's a swordsman that was like "yo i'm the fkn greetest" and challenged Death to a duel. he ended up winning, and wanted immortality as a clause for winning. Death was like "lol ok", but added the curse of him being unable to die until all evils are gone. so he sets out to defeat the 4 terrestrial planes, and then thinks he can die then. Death pulls a Billy Mays "but wait there's more" so he has to run another 4 in the elemental plains. he wins, and tries to die again. Death is like "lol u dum fuk look at all those stars". so Chakan gets pissed and kills Death because he's tired of his shit.
