Ms. Parida's struggle began when she sought employment in Bhubaneswar and faced exploitation. However, her story takes an awe-inspiring turn as she triumphs against the odds. Her journey sheds light on the ongoing fight of the LGBTQ+ community, aiming to create a society that values mutual respect and acceptance for all individuals.
Based in Odisha, Ms. Meera Parida is not only a trans social activist but also a politician and entrepreneur. She has played a significant role in Odisha's LGBTQ+ movement, serving as a member of the National Transgender Council and holding a political leadership position in the state. Currently, Ms. Parida holds the esteemed position of Chairman at the All Odisha Third Gender Welfare Trust in Bhubaneswar.
Furthermore, she is a valued treasurer and co-founder of SAKHA-NGO, a community-based organisation in Odisha dedicated to supporting the LGBTQ+ community. Her efforts in protecting the rights of marginalized groups vulnerable to HIV and AIDS have earned her numerous accolades, including the prestigious Best Transgender Leader in India award presented by UNDP, NACO, and HIV Alliance in 2016.
