During quarantine my depression hit hard and I let my natural hair grow out. I didn’t do the best job taking care of it and it looked like my hair was about ear length. Once it was straightened out, it is well beyond my shoulders. Really amazing what our hair can do!

Delonthehairdo, yes our hair shrink is mind blowing! Case & point i had not had ny natural hair chemical, press, etc in 12 YEARS. So 3 weeks ago i went to a hair SALON to get a silk press. As she was blow drying my hair i saw all this thick long hair going way pas my shoulders & i said to the stylist who hair is this! & sh said it is your Hair!. I lie not!!. I was so stun!. So i agree with u & another women on another channel SPEAKING about our hair shrink. It truly is mind boggling!. She is so bless to have a mama who can do that hair! For realllll! My hair shrinks to my chin but is blown out...not even flat iron hits my bra strap 😶. Crazy, but I have learned shrinkage is the sign of healthy hair. So I just accept it.

@@M5TABBYCAT you can tell because of how soft it looked in it's natural state (the beginning) and how it fell/shrunk back towards her scalp when the hair dresser played with it. As well as after it was pressed you could tell because of how shiny and smooth it was + the way it flowed like silk when it was played with

I'll tell you, even after years of muscle build up and memory, THEY STILL WOULD BE HELLA SORE! Doing this is one of my favorite things to do hair wise other than color, braids and locks but man let me tell you! Lol I have carpal tunnel in both wrists because of it.

I know, right? Anyone can straighten their hair (though it might take hours, but it can be done, like in the video), but if your hair isn't naturally like this girl's there is nothing you can do to get there by styling it. I hope she's proud of that hair and usually wears it natural

When you have hair like this, it’s a hassle. My daughters hair is the same. And it takes hours to wash, detangle, and style her hair. For some ppl it’s just easier to go to the salon and get a wash and set.

@@LadyPhanthom1 can't they just towel it off and let it air-dry? I get that it must get really tangled just because of the length, but at least with my hair, which admittedly hangs completely flat when it's wet which makes things a lot easier, if you use a good hair mask and a wide toothed comb it's usually reasonably untangled in 15 minutes, and then I just squeeze as much water as I can out, towel it a bit without moving it around so that it doesn't tangle again and let it dry on its own. I assumed you could do the same with kinky hair as with curly, I'm genuinely curious.

Carla Hallabrin with hair like that it get tangled very easily. With my daughter I can detangle her hair while it’s wet, let it air dry and will have to detangle it again, and it’s even harder to detangle while dry. It just too much

@@ccheyenne Also, natural hair cannot use towels to dry the hair. Towels rip the hair out! A microfiber towel will work, or just a plain old white tshirt to squeeze water out, never rub!

I *knew* someone was probably going to be offended by this. I didn't intend to be hurtful or ignorant, though I admit, my omission of Asian and other straight ethnic hair was a bit ignorant of me, so please forgive me on that. I maintain that this wasn't a backhanded compliment. My observation on society and my observation of this young lady's happiness are 2 separate observations. I wrote this comment with a recently viewed documentary in mind. It spoke of the Roman Empire and their view on "exotic" women. For them, exotic was a blonde woman with fair skin and blue eyes. This became fetishized to the point that many prostitutes would try to bleach their hair. This in conjunction with many white European societies considering themselves the standard has maintained that the "standard" for "beauty" is a fair maiden with flaxen hair and typically straight or manageably curly/wavy. I was in NO WAY trying to imply that this young lady wanted to be white or anything like that. I simply thought about the number of things African-descended women put themselves through to meet the standard of beauty that never seems to include naturally textured hair. Thankfully, I think this is changing, but it is still a present issue. THERE IS STILL NOTHING WRONG WITH SOMEONE WANTING TO STRAIGHTEN OR RELAX THEIR HAIR. There's nothing wrong with someone wanted to modify their body/hair/appearance/sex/religion/home town/style/way of life. My problem is with a society that EXPECTS it. If THAT offends you, you can kiss my ass.
