A thrilling day’s racing at Challenge Wanaka in February 2018 saw wins by World Champion Javier Gomez and Annabel Luxford from Australia. Both had fierce battles with one of the deepest professional fields ever seen at a half distance triathlon in New Zealand.
Challenge Wanaka is focusing its time and energy on the Challenge Wanaka Half and Aqua Bike programmes to make them internationally recognised events with a real focus on the age group athletes, giving them the best quality time possible while they are in Wanaka.
The Junior Challenge is now the biggest event of its kind in the world with Wanaka schools including it part of their curriculum as a fun and enjoyable event with longer term benefits that sees fit and active local children embracing swimming, cycling and running as part of their lifestyle.
