I am old and lived at a time when boyfriends, fiances, husbands were gone in the service for 6 months or more. No internet, facetime, etc then. Just letters. Look at all the wonderful things you have to show Freddie when she gets back! Savor the next week of 'alone' time and then she will be back! Big hugs from an old grannie

Absolutely. I hope the younger generation preserve their communications in hard copy, because down the road, they are a reminder of a life well lived. Unfortunately, digital media does not survive the passages of time.

@@margaretpigot5503 Sadly the youth today believe we missed out on so much because we didn't have cell phones, video games, computers etc. BUT it is they who are missing time outside in nature and playing in the creek instead of texting on a phone, beautiful letters and real cards from family members as long distance was too expensive to use often. I am just short of 74 and still have many cards and letters from as far back as the 60's. We talked to PEOPLE on the phone, the bank tellers knew us by name. We knew our neighbors and sometimes people along the whole road. I can still tell you the last names of more than half the people who used to live in the houses down our 3 1/2 mile road Yes, hard copy and person to person seem to be things of that past. Too sad.

Rod, the beauty of Freddie being gone is that you both got to experience a slice of life without each other that you both will tremendously enjoy telling each other about when you get back together. The fact that you devised a "To-Do-List" and focused on getting everything on the list done before Freddie returns is awesome. The list got you through some very lonely times and you have so much to show Freddie when she returns. I love how you are paying it forward with Carlos. Several mentors of yours taught you how to build a house and you are showing Carlos how to do the same. He looks up to you and learns a lot from you. I am so very proud of you and how you are mentoring Carlos. Your Freddie will be back any day now and you will resume building your lives together. I am so happy that God blessed you with each other.

@@hallscroft I like what you said, and a great quote on true unselfish love. They are both so young and have no need to rush into what is hopefully, a life long commitment. Freddie IS truly a beautiful young woman, with a kind and gentle spirit to match, and I have loved watching all they have done together as a happy and motivated team. I hope she's back soon, but our sweet Freddie may not be finished with her education yet, or other important personal aspirations of her own, before marriage and children. I know Rodrigo would miss her soo much, more than we could ever imagine, but he is a strong, kind, beautiful and ambitious young man as well, and has accomplished so much already on his own. He is so loved by all, and he will be ok again on his own, with his bestfriends by his side there on Lola's Farm. If this has been our Freddie's 'gentle farewell for now', then I truly wish them both the best of life always, and pretty sure everyone else does too.♥

That deck is going to be great! Just a recommendation for you to consider. Try to add vertical members where the frame meets the house. Use offcuts of the beams you are already using or treated wood. You live on a seismic active zone the house and deck will move differently. Small tremors can, in time, weaken the welds if you only rely on them. Vertical footers go a long way to help prevent this.

It's perfectly fine to feel sad and miss Freddie; it just shows how much you really do love her. I'm sure she feels the same way about you! The good news is, you'll be together again soon. We're all anxiously awaiting the day when you three (don't forget Roger) can be together again. Hang on tight for just a while longer. In the meantime, you have made sooooo much progress with projects while she's been gone - improvements that are going to impact both of your lives in big, important ways. (And thank you for teaching your friend how to weld. Yes, he's a quick learner, but you're a good teacher, too.)

Honey (a mom) ferddy will be back soon. I know you have to feel lonely without her. She is such a bright light in your life. So hang in there until next week. Just think of all the excitement it will be at the airport. Buy her flowers and some special food. And maybe a present. The deck is going nicely. I am so proud of the young man who works for you. A tip for you , put rubber gloves on and then your welding gloves . You'll find you can weld in the rain and not get shocked .

I’m sorry you have been struggling. I suffer from multiple mental illnesses and they are really hard. It’s hard not to be depressed when you’re all alone & have so much time to think. Bro the deck is coming together, you would be happier if it was not raining so much and things were getting done quicker. It is the trade off for the unbelievable location you are next to the jungle, it is spectacular there, you need inside projects for the days when it rains all day. You are doing great with the deck Mother Nature has her ways but glad that you stood up to her and continued to do the welding. It is to be expected that you are lonely your love is thousands of miles when Freddie not only will you be happier but also Roger. As I said previously you needed a feminine touch and you got that with Freddie. The both of you will make up for the time apart when Freddie returns. Hey mate, on your beam corners go to the hardware store and buy some or make some molds and pour some 12 x 12 squares for those corners. If you can pour then you can make 2 of them at the height you need them. Dig the corners out, dig them deep enough to put gravel down first, then pack the gravel down. Use a piece of plywood ( a square piece you can place a jack under) then slowly move up your beam. Place your concrete mold in the hole and slowly lower the jack . Check your level, if off a little, you can cut off little squares from scrap beams and place to the right height. Then fill in around the molds and call it a day. Quick and easy to do mate. Be safe mate.

Going to be a really nice patio when finished. I was wondering if you should add another water collection container on the other side of the house. If it’s rain season this would help ( besides the water source in the woods). I could imagine a wood burning stove in the house on those damp rainy days. 😊

Terrible when you have an outside job and all it does is rain,but I am sure it will be done soon.I am glad Freddie is due back soon,she will be thrilled to see in person what you have done for her. Since I have been on my own I have never been lonely,but there again it’s because after my partner died I decided not to even meet someone else.But your young and I was in my early 60’s then .
